High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1386: Chapter 133: A Dog Bites Lü Dongbin

Being bitten by a dog isn’t usually a big deal.

But this is First University.

In this world, there are demons.

A bleeding wound can be very dangerous.

The first image that popped into Zheng Qing’s mind upon seeing the mangled flesh on his hand was that of the wild boar monster recklessly rampaging in Great Ming Pavilion, followed by memories of the restless figures in last year’s Hunting Competition grounds, and then the demons coveting the ’Forbidden Curse Seed’. The heart of the young cost student sank.

Jiang Yu noticed the warlock’s face gradually turning pale.

”This dog is definitely not a demon,” she said decisively, comforting him with: ”All methods of demon detection have already been used, there was no reaction at all... it’s absolutely not a demon.”

Her assured tone and expression provided Zheng Qing with quite a bit of comfort.

”It’s alright, it looks more scared than me,” Zheng Qing forced a smile.

Indeed, after biting the warlock, the dog named Gouzi immediately curled up into a ball, shivering all over, seemingly more frightened than Zheng Qing himself.

Jiang Yu glanced at Gouzi then immediately turned her attention back to Zheng Qing.

”Sit down, give me your hand,” she instructed, pulling out a large blanket from her bag and spreading it on the damp grass, gesturing for the male student to sit on it.

Zheng Qing obediently sat down with crossed legs.

The witch knelt beside him, her body turned to the side. The blanket was laden with bottles and jars for treating injuries. Zheng Qing wanted to remind the witch that the school hospital was less than five hundred meters away in a straight line, but for some reason, the words swirled in his mouth and silently rolled back into his belly.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to remind her; it was as if the words in his stomach had a mind of their own and refused to obey his brain—this is how the male student consoled himself.

Then he comfortably watched the witch tinker with those bottles and jars.

Jiang Yu took several Talisman papers for extracting poison and dispelling curses, burned them to ashes in a glass cup, and then added a few drops of a transparent, oil-like liquid, stirring it into a mud-like paste with a glass rod. She also threw a Purifying Talisman into a bottle of Noon Water.

Noon Water, being extremely yang and able to ward off evil, is the superior choice for preparing such Magic Potions. As Dragon Boat Festival had just passed, Jiang Yu still had quite a stockpile.

The light yellow Talisman paper self-ignited when it touched the water, producing a ring of fine bubbles around the now turbid Noon Water. Zheng Qing watched the faint blue flame roll in the water, pulling out thin strands of flame, finding it extremely beautiful.

But no beautiful scene can exist forever.

After a moment, the blue flame went out, the bubbles in the water dissipated, and the Noon Water became calm and monotonous once again.

”Stretch out your hand,” the witch commanded.

Zheng Qing obediently extended his hand.

Jiang Yu picked up the bottle of Talisman Water and poured it directly onto Zheng Qing’s wound. The warlock had braced himself for the sting, biting down, but to his surprise, he felt a comforting warmth at the wound, as if someone was gently blowing on it, which felt extremely pleasant.

After cleaning the wound, the witch stirred the Talisman Mud she had prepared earlier and applied it to the warlock’s wound. The Talisman Mud transformed upon contact with blood and solidified upon contact with flesh; the small pits bitten by Gouzi vanished in an instant, restored to their original state.

Zheng Qing tried clenching his hand.

It felt just as it had before it was bitten.

”It’s really amazing,” he generously lavished praise: ”Even the school hospital couldn’t have done a better job... it’s just that I’ve made you spend money.”

”It’s just a few sheets of Talisman paper, you could easily draw them yourself,” the witch replied nonchalantly.

Zheng Qing looked down at his wound again: ”I was thinking just applying some Bai Xian would do...”

”Just to be on the safe side.” The witch paused, glanced sideways at the dog lying outside the carpet, and continued to explain: ”Although it’s confirmed that this little thing isn’t a demon, just to be safe... It’s better to clean it up thoroughly. Bai Xian can only regenerate flesh and stop bleeding, but it has poor resistance to evil spirits.”

The warlock nodded in agreement repeatedly.

”I just didn’t expect that it could also draw out poison,” he whispered, ”The books say that a wizard bitten by a demon will transform into a demon. I always thought that once bitten, there was no saving them.”

The witch couldn’t help but laugh.

”What the book says isn’t wrong,” she said as she packed up the bottles and jars on the blanket, seemingly in no rush to get up, and cheerfully explained, ”but what it says isn’t complete... A demon’s bite can indeed transform a wizard, but there are conditions... Can you imagine a Little Wild Demon biting a Big Wizard, and then transforming the Big Wizard into a Great Demon?”

Zheng Qing immediately shook his head.

”So, the more powerful the wizard, the stronger their resistance to demon erosion. In addition, long experience has also taught us that pure wizard bloodlines and a deep understanding of magic can help us resist the erosion of demons... These methods of concocting Magic Potions are all taught by the family.”

Listening to the witch’s explanation, Zheng Qing lightly raised his eyebrows.

What Jiang Yu said was likely knowledge passed down within the Aristocratic Wizard families, and while it wasn’t completely in line with what his teacher had previously taught him, it was more easily accepted by Aristocratic Wizards.

But from another perspective, this kind of ’experience’ might not be a good thing for the Wizard World.

On the one hand, the monopoly of bloodlines and knowledge deepened the chasm between Aristocratic Wizards and civilian wizards; on the other hand, the more powerful wizard families and wizards were safer, while the weaker wizards were in greater danger.

This trend of the strong getting stronger and the weak getting weaker was very dangerous.

But this trend seemed popular in any world—Zheng Qing recalled that in the past few decades, the gap between the big capitalists and the common people in the Mortal World was exactly similar to the Wizard World. It was unclear who was influencing whom.

While the warlock was lost in thought, Jiang Yu suddenly let out a light exclamation.

”That dog... does it seem a bit strange?” she nudged Zheng Qing’s arm.

Zheng Qing turned his head.

The dog that had been trembling at the edge of the blanket, its fur had become a bit dim—no, not dim, but blurry. Zheng Qing observed carefully for a moment before realizing that the dog’s figure was slowly becoming illusory and blurry.

As if it were about to disappear from the world.

”Don’t let it escape!”

The young man rolled over and reached out his arm, grabbing at the little dog.

But his hand easily passed through the dog’s body as if through a pool of turbid liquid. The little dog raised its head, whimpered, and gave a couple of meows to the two wizards, then whooshed away, disappearing over the lawn.

The two young wizards looked at each other.

”Its eyes are still black, not red,” the witch was the first to speak.

”Just now, its trembling might not have been out of fear... it could also be exerting power?” the warlock guessed.

”Since it can escape, why was it bound by a Binding Spell among the tree canopy, unable to move?” Jiang Yu’s question hit the mark, yet she didn’t voice the concern Zheng Qing had.

”Perhaps, it can only Escape when it’s not being bound,” Zheng Qing guessed without much confidence.

But deep down, the warlock was more worried that the dog had mutated because it had bitten him.

He wasn’t sure which guess was worse.
