Chapter 1368: Chapter 115: Troubles in the Library

In the Wizard World, there’s a saying, ”Obstructing other people’s love lives can get you kicked to death by horses,” the origins of this phrase are unclear, but it’s widely circulated, even Zheng Qing had heard of it—He once suspected that this saying came from the Horseman Tribe.

So, when Xiao Xiao said ’I don’t want to be kicked to death by a horse,’ Zheng Qing just rolled the phrase around in his head and got the hint.

”Meaning, you’d be blocking other people’s datings in the study room?” The younger cost student raised his eyebrows.

”Um-hmm,” Doctor Xiao put on a stern face and hummed, ”This wizard is in the prime of life, in the full bloom of youth, and has absolutely no desire to have any close encounters with a horse hoof.”

Zheng Qing held back a smile until his face felt sore:

”Are there many couples in the study room?”

”All around, front, back, left, right, just me being single.” Doctor Xiao’s expression turned forlorn: ”...From the moment I stepped into the study room until I left, those folks kept cooing over each other, completely disregarding everyone else.”

”That does sound awful... But don’t you have a girlfriend?” Zheng Qing corrected the Doctor’s mistake in speech and suggested: ”You could totally bring your girl Sima to study in the study room... I’m sure those couples would study earnestly in front of the teacher. This way, nobody bothers anyone.”

Xiao Xiao gave him a look full of pity: ”Is this why you come to the library? Do you think staying alone in the library won’t distract others?”

Zheng Qing blinked.

He was somewhat puzzled, he was clearly giving advice to Xiao Xiao, but why did Xiao Xiao’s response seem like he was comforting him?

Contemplating the hidden meaning behind Xiao Xiao’s response, Zheng Qing twirled the brush in his fingers.

The brush saucily flicked its soft bristles at the head, specifically targeting the gaps and corners of the ”Yunluo Nine Seals” book pages, disturbing the originally austere and serious book, causing it to fidget restlessly, and even the runes that originally operated strictly following formulas and angles on the cover couldn’t help but flee, hiding into the appendices of the book.

Xiao Xiao watched the minor movements of those few runes, fell silent for a moment, then slowly said: ”Sometimes, escaping isn’t the solution... As a guy, even if you’re heartbroken, you have to grit your teeth and keep moving forward. Just like those runes in the book, they can’t run forever, and in the end, they have to return honestly to the cover.”

Zheng Qing became even more baffled.

”What are you talking about?” The young cost student opened the appendices and spotted the shadows of a few runes, looked around, and then pointed at himself with the tip of the brush: ”...Are you talking to me?”

Xiao Xiao stared at him for a few seconds and let out a deep sigh.

”Don’t pretend in front of me.” The Doctor straightened his glasses, his eyes filled with understanding, ”Others have mentioned this to me as well... Everyone understands. You’re a guy, still young, these kinds of things are bound to happen... What’s there that you can’t get over?”

The more Zheng Qing listened, the less right it felt.

”I always feel... there’s some misunderstanding here.” His gaze was vacant as he looked at his sincere companion.

”Did Elena dump you?” Xiao Xiao finally stopped beating around the bush and asked directly: ”Everyone has actually noticed. Especially the chubby one... although he didn’t offer comfort verbally, have you noticed he’s been slipping you snacks often recently...”

”Stop, stop!” Zheng Qing extended his left index finger to tap on the palm of his right, making a pause gesture: ”Hold on a moment, let me catch my breath... Where did you guys get this theory from?”

”You’ve been a bit down lately.” Xiao Xiao lifted his finger and started to enumerate: ”Like last week, during the Hunting Team Training, you were napping by yourself in the pavilion...”

”I didn’t sleep well the night before, I was about to drop from exhaustion!” Zheng Qing explained with a darkened face.

”You’ve been coming to the library alone recently... and always sitting in this spot. We all know, this was the spot where you and Elena used to sit together.”

”That’s because...” Zheng Qing was momentarily stuck—he did sit in this spot indeed because he missed Elena, but his frequent visits to the library lately were because the teacher told him last time that absorbing various magic knowledge could fortify the ’dam’ inside him, placing a ’valve’ on that uncontrollable power.

But he couldn’t explain this to Xiao Xiao.

”That’s because the final exams are coming up, right.” Xiao Xiao considerately came up with an ’explanation’ for Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing nodded repeatedly.

The pity in Doctor’s eyes became even more evident.

”So, everyone understands.” Xiao Xiao half stood up, leaned over, and patted Zheng Qing’s arm, ”When people are heartbroken, they always find all kinds of excuses for themselves... but you can’t keep being down like this.”

Zheng Qing pushed away from the table and abruptly stood up.

”Nonsense!” he lowered his voice and yelled, ”I have no idea what you are all worried about... Elena went back because the Gypsy Witch Coven had matters that required her! We didn’t break up!”

”Oh... Then what’s with the Little White Cat on the Cat Fruit Tree?” Xiao Xiao looked calmly at the cost student, ”The book says that people only develop feelings for something else after a certain relationship is missing...”

”That, that is, it’s just a cat!” Zheng Qing, somewhat flustered, avoided eye contact and argued weakly, ”Even if it’s a transfer of affection, I wouldn’t have any thoughts about a cat, right? Ah? Haha!”

”If that’s just a cat.” Xiao Xiao looked at him meaningfully.

Zheng Qing held his breath, his brain frantically spinning, not knowing what Doctor knew or how he knew it.

What was annoying was that Xiao Xiao didn’t continue the conversation on this topic.

The air froze for a few seconds.

”No matter what you have in your mind, it’s all wrong.” The young cost student said dryly, got up, and walked towards the depths of the bookshelves with a copy of ”Yunluo Nine Seals” in his arms, ”...I don’t have time to waste here talking with you about endless nonsense... I have to find some reference books to prepare for the finals...”

”You don’t have to explain it to me, really!” Doctor shouted from behind him.

A paper ball whistled through the air, flying out from behind a bookshelf and hitting Doctor squarely in the face, knocking his glasses askew.

”This is a library!” A voice suppressing anger came from behind the bookshelves, ”If you have things to discuss, go outside!”

Zheng Qing left that unfamiliar warning behind and darted into the depths of the bookshelf corridor.

Leaving Doctor Xiao standing there, touching his nose and giving an embarrassed smile to those around him.

The librarian rapidly noticed the commotion in this corner, and a pink octopus waved its eight long tentacles, squeezing out of a gap between bookshelves, and sprayed a string of florid script into the air:

”Keep quiet!!”
