High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1394: Chapter 141 The Witch’s Handbook

”Your office is quite cool... Are these Refreshing charms all provided by the school?”

Zheng Qing rubbed the goosebumps on his arm, chuckling dryly, his words not having passed through his brain first. He had originally intended to use this opportunity to promote the standard Talisman paper sold in his family’s store to liven up the conversation, but the next second, upon seeing Su Shijun’s gaze, the boy decisively shut his mouth.

Though not particularly good at speaking, he still had enough sense to know when to be silent.

”Do you have business here today?” Su Shijun asked, eyes lowered, pronouncing each word clearly, with the Feather Pen in her hand bent into an alarming curve. Zheng Qing thought he could hear the pen screaming shrilly.

The Warlock didn’t know where he had misspoken, but he knew he needed to do something to make up for his previous faux pas. Otherwise, not only would his request for help go unresolved, but it would also bring him new trouble.

”Poseidon!”

The Warlock quickly thought of a new reason: ”Poseidon has been at the school for quite some time now... You mentioned before that you wanted to enroll him in audited courses at the First University... I think we can probably do that next semester.”

Having said this, Zheng Qing mentally offered three sticks of incense for the Little Fox.

It’s a well-known saying - better a friend die than me. Stuffing you into a classroom is definitely not my original intention—Zheng Qing could already imagine the Little Fox’s eyes filled with grief and despair upon learning that it had to go to school. Its dream life was to chase butterflies and squirrels every day, to gnaw on chicken legs, and to relieve itself wherever it wanted when no one was around—not hold textbooks and sit in a classroom, listening to the Elder Wizard on the podium talk in a way that would make anyone doze off.

Su Shijun’s previously cold gaze finally thawed a bit.

Her voice warmed up a little too.

”Hmm... It’s rare for you to show some conscience, remembering Neptune’s schooling.” When the topic turned to the child’s education, an Upper House Member of the Moon Council seemed to have finally forgotten the recent displeasure, although the conversation did become much more long-winded:

”Have you thought about what courses you want her to take? If you’re not sure, I have a ’Parenting Handbook’ issued by our Clan, which lists the subjects a one-year-old spirit fox needs to study.”

Saying this, she pulled out a booklet from a drawer and tossed it into the Warlock’s lap.

Zheng Qing clumsily caught it.

The booklet still carried a faint scent from the Witch’s hands, but it failed to stir any excitement in the depths of the Warlock’s heart. He opened it blankly, seeing several colorful Little Foxes playing hide-and-seek amongst the brush strokes of the words ’Juvenile Fox Tutoring Series’ on the title page, their fluffy tails seemingly brushing over those large trembling characters.

Zheng Qing quickly scanned the table of contents, catching glimpses of several lines, including ’Juvenile Fox Hunting Skill,’ ’Clans of the Moon Social Interaction and Social Consciousness Development,’ ’Standardized Life and Schedule,’ and so on.

Poseidon was accustomed to sleeping when tired and playing when awake; getting her to stick to a schedule would probably require a whole stack of sleep-inducing Talismans or similar Magic Potions, Zheng Qing thought sarcastically, but outwardly he dutifully listened to Su Shijun’s arrangements:

”...Talisman, Divination, Magic Script, these three are required; she can fail to understand, but she must learn. Magic Potion might be a bit challenging, so she can start with the prerequisite, Herbology... At least when she runs around in the forest later, she should know which mushrooms are edible and which insects can bite.”

”Additionally, as a member of the Qingqiu Clan, she should also master Emblem Studies and Moon Etiquette... Hmm, Philosophy of Magic might be a bit too difficult for a fox of her age, she can learn that in a few years.”

Zheng Qing watched, dumbstruck, as the Witch took out a small notebook and began reeling off Poseidon’s entire learning plan for the school year—it was clear that the Witch had prepared thoroughly for this.

Compared to that, the young sponsored student had just casually mentioned it; he wasn’t even sure if he needed to submit an application to the School Works Committee or the Professor Joint Meeting to let Poseidon audit classes, or what application materials were required and how much the fees would be.

Luckily, Su Shijun had also arranged the cost issues properly.

”...Don’t worry about the tuition fee, I will arrange for Greenhill Mansion to contact Jiuyou Academy directly to fund it in the form of a scholarship. Greenhill Mansion has always been generous in funding exceptionally talented foxes; it won’t draw any attention.”

”And have you decided which academy you will let it enter? Based on its lineage, Alpha would be the best choice. But both of us are at Jiuyou Academy, and it’s not very secure to leave it alone in Alpha Fortress; I can’t very well assign someone to supervise it...”

”The manager of the Absolution Hunting Team, Lin Guo, is a student at Alpha Academy.” Zheng Qing finally had the opportunity to offer a suggestion, showing his attentiveness—at least to show that he had considered the matter: ”If it goes to Alpha Academy, Lin Guo could help take care of Poseidon.”

”Lin Guo?” Su Shijun closed her eyes, her head tilting back slightly for a few seconds. After a moment, she reopened her eyes, her tone becoming strict again: ”That twelve-year-old genius Alchemist at Alpha Academy? He is still just a child... even younger than Su Ya!”

Lin Guo had been living alone since he was seven or eight, while at Su Ya’s age, probably only knew how to chase Grass Spirits by dragging their tails in the garden or carry a watering can to water the flowers, Zheng Qing complained in his heart, but on the surface, he had to justify his choice:

”Lin Guo is already thirteen years old this year.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the warlock inexplicably felt as if he was possessed by Li Meng. Student Li Meng often said such things to others.

This feeling made his cheeks feel somewhat warm.

It seemed the owner of the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab had not heard the warlock’s defense.

”More importantly,” Su Shijun emphasized a bit more: ”Student Lin Guo’s pet has just been lost... as far as I know, you were the one who reported it to the School Works Committee. Are you confident about entrusting Poseidon to him?”

This was indeed a problem.

People find it hard to entrust their money to a fund manager who is constantly in deficit, similarly, Zheng Qing didn’t have much confidence in persuading Su Shijun to leave Poseidon with a thirteen-year-old child who had lost his own pet.

Even though deep down, Zheng Qing believed that Lin Guo was always very conscientious in his work.

”We could...”

Zheng Qing had just said these four words when the corner of his eye suddenly caught a glimpse of the furry tail behind the office corner’s potted devil’s ivy. Then, he spotted that detestable dog face and its blinking little eyes.

His expression immediately changed.

Su Shijun noticed the change in the warlock’s expression and followed his gaze, but she only saw a potted devil’s ivy, swaying gently in the sunlight.

The witch turned her head back.

The warlock’s face was exceptionally ugly.
