High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1361: Chapter 108: A Gouzi Comes to the Cat Fruit Tree

Cat Fruit Tree.

On the throne.

The Black Cat wore a troubled expression as he gazed at the textbooks and homework occupying one-third of the throne’s space, and glanced at Little White Cat who was lazily sprawled across the homework book, vaguely understanding her intention.

No school today, hurry up and do the homework!

But he had taken the day off today, why did he still need to do homework—thinking this, the Black Cat tried to explain to Little White Cat concepts like ’the dignity of a king’, ’the Lord of the Cat Fruit Tree can’t possibly compromise this easily’, ’Cats don’t do homework’, and so on.

Little White Cat just gave him a glance and made the Black Cat dismiss all those complicated thoughts from his mind.

”I need to inspect my territory first,” the Black Cat eventually chose a compromise, cleared his throat twice, and explained, ”I haven’t been here for several days, I need to take a look around, see if other cats need any trouble resolved...”

Little White Cat ignored him, merely rolling over to flatten herself even more.

Seeing her flicking tail, the Black Cat guessed she agreed?

But this is my place, the Black Cat thought enviously as he watched this scene, gloomily turning to leap onto other branches to start inspecting his territory.

Speaking of inspecting, there wasn’t actually any trouble that needed the Black Cat’s intervention.

Along the way, the biggest incident Zheng Qing encountered was two cats disputing over a little mouse dressed in a yellow vest, which, being juggled by four paws, was barely alive and seemed to have stopped breathing. The Black Cat was forced to snatch the mouse from the two cats and toss it down from the Cat Fruit Tree, ensuring his cat group didn’t conflict with the Underground Rat Clan.

Aside from that, most of the cats were napping, licking their fur, twitching their ears, or staring off into space.

Zheng Qing unexpectedly discovered that, after a few days away, there seemed to be more cats than usual on the Cat Fruit Tree.

Apart from the squeaky-clean pet cats, a few ’wild cat fruits’ — distinguished from pet cats by their fierce eyes, slightly unkempt fur, and mostly being tabby cats — had also appeared.

The wild cats also had a sharp scent. They were accustomed to marking their new territory by urinating and rubbing their scent on it. The Black Cat had to spend a lot of time cleaning up the tracks left by these wild cats.

This tree is, and can only be, my territory.

Other cats could only be fruits.

No, not just cats.

Looking skyward, carefully observing for a while, the Black Cat finally realized where the slight sense of discord he had felt from the start came from. He noticed that at some point, a Gouzi had blended into the cat group.

Squatting on the lowest branch of the Cat Fruit Tree.

With short legs and a yellow-white coat, its face looked as if it had been flattened by a punch. When it sat on its paws with an innocent look at the Black Cat, it really did resemble a cat. If one didn’t look closely, it was easy to be deceived.

Noticing the Black Cat examining him, the Gouzi smiled ingratiatingly and wagged its tail,

Huff huff huff.

The Black Cat grinned, can’t you act a bit more like a cat? Do cats wag their tails like you?

There were a few cat fruits hanging not too far from the Gouzi, but they seemed oblivious to the ’different species’ so close to them. This made the Black Cat very curious about how this Gouzi managed to blend in with a cat’s identity.

According to the cat group’s tradition, the Black Cat needed to inspect each new member. He strolled up to the new ’cat fruits’ with unhurried steps, raised his paw, and let them lick it.

This was considered acceptance.

After making a round and accepting all the ’new cat fruits’, the Black Cat finally approached the Gouzi.

He hesitated whether or not to lift his paw and present it in front of the dog’s mouth.

Gouzi held the paw, blinked, and meowed softly, causing the Black Cat to stumble backward. Being a wizard, he had reason to suspect that this dog had been possessed by a cat demon.

”Anti-evil charm!”

A bright yellow talisman paper flew out of the grey cloth bag and stuck heavily on the forehead of Gouzi. The dog stood still for a few seconds and then meowed again, its tail wagging more vigorously.

The talisman paper emitted blue smoke, slowly releasing magic power, but it had no effect on the dog at all.

Anti-evil charms only work on evil spirits.

This meant that, relatively speaking, Gouzi was still quite ’clean’.

”If you insist that you are a cat,” the Lord of the Cat Fruit Tree watched as the talisman paper slowly burned out and finally nodded reluctantly, ”then you must act like a cat. You absolutely cannot pant with your tongue out like a dog!”

”Meow~” Gouzi meowed softly again.

The Black Cat shivered and quickly dashed towards the direction where his throne was.

This is bloody ridiculous.

In this day and age, can we have some normal animals, please?

Then again, the Black Cat who was doing his homework on the tree seemed to have no right to criticize other animals for being abnormal—As the Black Cat sat squatting on his throne, commanding the feather pen to rustle on the parchment, the thought unconsciously slipped through his mind—compared to himself, that dog just had a slight identity issue.

The evening breeze rustled through the tree tops, lifting the edge of the parchment.

The Black Cat raised a paw to hold down the eager parchment. Due to a momentary distraction, his control over the feather pen decreased, and a few words on the paper were written slightly off.

The Black Cat covertly glanced at Little White Cat next to him, fearing she would rush over and tear up his paper to rewrite.

Fortunately, Little White Cat was not focusing on his paper.

Little White Cat laid beside the Black Cat, staring at the tip of the Black Cat’s tail as it slowly swayed in the night wind. Her little paw seemed to stretch out and retract, as though wanting to catch that swaying tail tip, but perhaps due to a mother cat’s reserve, she ultimately did not stretch out her paw.

The Black Cat noticed her little movement.

Wanting to tease her, he suddenly raised his tail. Little White Cat’s head indeed suddenly lifted following the trajectory of the tail tip. The Black Cat raised his tail higher and higher, and Little White Cat’s head also lifted higher and higher, almost pulling her body to stand up.

Then the Black Cat flicked the tip of his tail.

Little White Cat suddenly stretched out her paw to grab that flickering little thing—This is the nature of cats, not swayed by human will. As the tip of the Black Cat’s tail moved left and right, Little White Cat’s head and paw also swayed side to side.

This is the principle of ’Teasing Cat Stick’, the Black Cat chuckled to himself.

Suddenly, two somewhat familiar voices came from under the tree, and Little White Cat, who had been engaging in a battle of wits with the tip of the Black Cat’s tail, suddenly came to her senses, withdrawing her paw, returning to her previous cool and reserved demeanor.

The Black Cat sighed in disappointment internally, peeking his head towards the tree below.

It was Li Meng and Xiao Xiao.

Who knows how these two ended up together.

”...I heard there’s a Spiritual Cat living in your dorm, you guys are really lucky,” Li Meng’s voice, slightly envious, carried from afar, seemingly discussing Tuan Tuan with Xiao Xiao: ”Have you named it? Want me to help?”

You helping? The Black Cat snickered internally, heh, just like how you named your pigeon ’Little White’, and now you want to name Tuan Tuan? You’re probably going to get scratched up by Tuan Tuan.
