Chapter 1385: Chapter 132: The Spiritual Rain Scatters

”Speaking of which, do you know why the cats allow a dog to climb the tree?”

Zheng Qing muttered, walking around to the back of the Cat Fruit Tree, searching for the traces of Gouzi.

”You don’t even know, how could I possibly know... I’m not familiar with the other cats!” The witch huffed, then added: ”Making friends across species isn’t anything unusual.”

Zheng Qing touched his nose: ”Hmm... that puppy is quite suspicious. The Doctor investigated for a while but couldn’t figure out where it came from. Besides, don’t you think a dog that learns to meow is weird?”

”Not weird.” Jiang Yu, arms crossed, stood not too far away, casually glancing around: ”It’s not a big deal for a wizard’s pet to learn a foreign language or two. My cousin has a big white goose that learns to bark every day, and it barks quite convincingly... nobody finds that unusual either.”

Usually, upon hearing such an interesting topic, Zheng Qing would have followed up with a few more questions.

But this time, after waiting a long while, Zheng Qing stayed silent.

Unable to contain her curiosity, the witch walked forward a few steps, bypassed the shadows of the tree, and spotted the young man. Zheng Qing was standing behind the Cat Fruit Tree, looking up at the canopy in a daze.

Jiang Yu followed the warlock’s gaze upwards.

Amidst the lush leaves, a small dog with yellow and white fur was curled up in its paws, hanging from several vines in the canopy, swinging back and forth as if on a swing. A few kittens were squatting nearby, eyeing it keenly, occasionally reaching out a paw to scratch it.

Sensing the gaze from below, the puppy stretched its neck and looked down.

Then it saw Zheng Qing.

”Meow~!”

Gouzi excitedly wagged its little tail and let out a soft bark.

The young cost student shivered, suddenly coming back to his senses.

”That really wasn’t just a dream.” He looked at Jiang Yu, his eyes showing a trace of seriousness.

Jiang Yu said nothing, quickly pulling out a Law Book, various amulets, and Magic Potions from her handbag, briskly getting ready.

Zheng Qing gave a bitter smile as he pressed down on the Anti-evil Charm Jiang Yu slapped onto his arm, opened his mouth, wanting to say he had such things in his Grey Cloth Bag and her reaction seemed a bit too intense.

But considering the tricky situation inside and outside the campus recently, thinking back to their previous encounters in the North District when out with the witch, the warlock swallowed his words, reached into his Grey Cloth Bag, and pulled out a Law Book and a bundle of Infused Talisman Paper.

”You take care of the cover.” He split half of the talisman paper, stuffed them into Jiang Yu’s hands, then closed his eyes, picturing the structure of a Charm Gun in his mind.

Jiang Yu hesitated for half a second before taking over the talisman paper and briefly answered with one word: ”Okay.”

Zheng Qing carefully opened the Law Book in his hands—since the school-provided Law Books for sponsored students were of poor quality with brittle pages, one had to use them with extreme caution—finding the spell he was most familiar with: ”Ge Zhitianxi!”

Several slender vines peeked out from thin air, nimbly weaving through the lush canopy, extending towards the position of Gouzi. Tipped with a few dark yellow talisman papers.

Just then, a sudden breeze swept through the woods.

The surrounding tree canopies rustled together, shedding rainwater accumulated on the leaves. Jiang Yu reacted quickly, but she didn’t have time to cast the Rain Avoidance Spell, managing only to yell: ”Spirit rain disperses!”

The chaotic raindrops hadn’t even hit the ground before transforming into vapor in the air, vanishing completely.

The wind passed and the rain disappeared, but Jiang Yu did not put away the Law Book.

”Clearly visible from all directions!”

The witch held the Law book and turned several pages backward, releasing the second spell. This spell was used for monitoring and probing, allowing the Wizard to quickly receive feedback on all unsettling factors around him.

A faint magic fluctuation swept past, spreading in all directions.

Zheng Qing didn’t pay attention to this episode; his gaze remained fixated on the small dog in the treetop, commanding his vines to stretch upwards.

The thick vines resembled the Wizard’s elongated arms, with the smaller tendrils at the ends acting like the Wizard’s fingers.

A skilled Wizard like Zheng Qing found commanding these tendrils no more difficult than controlling his own arms and hands. Although he wouldn’t claim to be a master of the Binding Spell, he certainly knew his way around it.

Several tendrils distracted the observing Cat Fruits while the remaining tendrils skillfully wove through the ropes binding the small dog, swiftly liberating it from its predicament.

”Peach and tender, blazing in beauty!”

Zheng Qing, quick and alert, immediately used an Escape spell on the small dog. A burning peach blossom abruptly appeared beneath the dog, and simultaneously, another blossom bud appeared at the foot of the tree, in front of the two young Wizards.

The peach blossom in the tree instantly burned out and turned into smoke, while the blossom bud below unfurled.

The bewildered small dog sat among the petals, panting and wagging its tail joyfully, completely unaware of what it had just gone through.

”You could have just used ’Peach and tender’ to rescue it directly from the tree, right?” Jiang Yu asked curiously.

”Just to be cautious.” Zheng Qing carefully watched the little creature at his feet and explained, ”I wasn’t sure if that guy had done any ’anti-escape’ tricks... and there are many Cat Fruits in the treetop. If ’Peach Fire’ had scared them or ignited the Cat Fruit Tree, that would have been bad.”

As they spoke, the peach blossom beneath the dog also withered with the wind, turning into a layer of flower mud, blending into the damp grass.

The small dog shakily stood up, lowered its head to sniff the decaying flower mud, then raised its head, wagging its tail and meowing as it rubbed against Zheng Qing’s feet.

”Don’t move!”

Zheng Qing yelled, as a light blue gun barrel suddenly appeared, pressed against the puppy’s forehead.

The little dog blinked its dark eyes, curiously nibbling on the gun barrel - the words ’swallow the gun to commit suicide’ and a vision of blood-red and pristine white jam instantly flashed through Zheng Qing’s mind.

”No matter how smart, it’s still just a dog.” The witch smiled, pouring the prepared Magic Potion into the food container and pushing it towards Gouzi—it was a mixture of charms against evil, detoxification, anti-curses, and Transformation.

Since it was mixed with minced meat, Gouzi ate it eagerly without any resistance.

Seizing the moment, the witch reached out, scratched its ear roots and chin, and hung the remaining talisman papers and amulets on its body, then casually plucked a few dog hairs.

Gouzi grunted, still lowering its head and munching non-stop.

Zheng Qing’s wariness finally eased a lot.

He watched Jiang Yu petting the dog, feeling somewhat tempted himself, unable to resist squatting down and also touching the little dog’s head. Gouzi’s tail wagged happily, and the food container was licked clean in no time.

Then it raised its head, whimpering, and took the chance to lick the Warlock’s fingers.

”Remember to wash your hands later,” the witch reminded.

Zheng Qing turned back with a smile, and before he could agree, he felt a pain on his hand:

”Ouch! Damn!!”
