High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1359: Chapter 106: Trade

”Recently, a small world in the Silent Forest was destroyed. Are you aware of this?”

”I don’t know.”

”The relevant authorities will offer a significant reward.”

”I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

”If you could help with the investigation of that case... or provide some valuable clues, it would be very beneficial for your future studies at the university.”

”Can you give me a hint? ... I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”I hope you keep saying that. Whether inside or outside the school. This matter is very dangerous for you. Countless eyes are watching it.”

The conversation between the paid student and the Black Cat thus comes to a halt. Abrupt and inconclusive. The Black Cat deeply looked at Zheng Qing one last time, licked some sheep milk cream from the plate, swished its tail, and left Su Shijun’s office.

Silently, it slipped through the crack of the door like a shadow, completely unnoticed by the busy researchers outside the office.

Zheng Qing wiped the non-existent sweat from his forehead and quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

”Poor lies,” Su Shijun’s mocking voice rang from behind the desk: ”You can’t even deceive a cat.”

”It’s not exactly a cat,” Zheng Qing, watching the direction in which the Black Cat had gone, pondering on every word it had spoken, whispers to rectify: ”And I didn’t expect to fool it... I just needed it to know, there are things I cannot tell it, that’s all.”

”Can’t tell it... but can you tell me?” Behind the desk, the Witch took off her hexagonal glasses, revealing a pair of beautiful, large eyes.

Her pupils shone like the most dazzling star in the night sky, captivating. A strand of hair fell over her forehead, sparkling in the sunlight with an auburn hue. Her lips slightly curved upwards, her fingers interlaced resting on the table, her body leaning forward slightly, her face showing a touch of perfect curiosity.

Zheng Qing caught sight of this scene from the corner of his eye, he hmphed loudly, quickly diverting his gaze.

He entirely believed that the owner of this office hadn’t used any enchantment magic on him, but that didn’t lessen the charm displayed by the Witch at the moment.

Her beauty was utterly unreasonable.

”I signed the Silence Contract! Even if I know, I can’t speak of it!” the student exclaimed - he was somewhat unsure about the first part since he had signed too many Silence Contracts at school this past year. But the latter was certain. The ’Order’ seed and matters related to it must not be disclosed to anyone.

”Tch.”

The Witch’s curiosity faded from her face, she put the spectacles back on while murmuring softly, ”Coward.”

Yet it was unclear whether she was despising the student for not even daring to look at her, or she was mocking the Warlock’s sensitivity on this topic.

Zheng Qing let out a heavy sigh of relief, finally daring to shift his gaze back.

Behind the desk, Su Shijun had already picked up the Feather Pen and the experiment report, starting to write and sketch on it.

Sunlight, a beautiful woman, glasses, and a Feather Pen—Zheng Qing didn’t understand why he felt this peculiar synesthesia—it was a beautiful tapestry.

Just like that, he watched intently for a long while.

Until Su Shijun’s Feather Pen paused in her hand, stopping the sketching.

Was this a signal of impatience?

The student immediately snapped back to reality.

”Cough...If there’s nothing else, may I leave now?” He tentatively asked while touching the sick note in his pocket.

Su Shijun had granted him a full day’s leave. It didn’t make sense to just chat with Big Black and then leave her office without further matters. He thought uneasily that she must have had something else to discuss.

”Tap tap.”

The tip of the Feather Pen tapped against the desk, making a clear sound. A Sprite in a grey uniform silently floated towards the male guest, holding a fruit basket and a tea tray with proper etiquette.

”You are a contracted experimenter at the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab.” Su Shijun cocked her head, looking at the Warlock sitting on the sofa: ”But these past few months, you have not participated in the lab’s follow-up experimental work...”

Zheng Qing looked down at his shadow:

”I thought, after you cut off my shadow initially, my task was complete.”

”When your shadow returned, you didn’t provide the required reports as agreed, nor did you come to the lab for the necessary health assessments,” reminded the owner of the office.

Zheng Qing finally realized a problem he had been ignoring.

”How did it end up here!” The Warlock widened his eyes, turning to look at the office door.

”Who?”

”The Black Cat! That Black Cat!...I mean, I remember it was taken away by, by another institution... How could they allow it to come here!”

The Black Cat was involved with Forbidden Curse—although merely in the Two-dimensional World—thus it was taken away by the authorities. Zheng Qing firmly didn’t believe that at such a critical moment, the school would loosen their control over the Forbidden Curse to allow the Moon Council access to related knowledge.

And Su Shijun, one of the five council members of the upper chamber of the Moon Council, absolutely a core member of the Moon Council.

Perhaps she was more lenient toward First University and Ordinary Wizards than her peers, but this did not mean the school would lower their guard against her. This was evident from the strict restrictions on Su Shijun’s frequency of appearances in First University, and the fact that she only held a vice-director position.

”Authorities?” The Witch’s face showed a mocking smile: ”Ah, a small transaction. They wanted to know what happened in the woods when the Secret Realm exploded that day... It just so happens that the Moon Council knows a little clue.”

”Clue?” Zheng Qing couldn’t help but ask further: ”What do you know?”

Su Shijun scrutinized him, making Zheng Qing feel uneasy, before smiling and answering: ”It’s said that the new Big Wizard in the North District was conducting an illegal magic experiment in the Secret Realm that day... involving Starry Sky... and it relates to you too.”

”The authorities would never allow you to research it.” The young man felt a bit hoarse in his throat.

”Of course, they wouldn’t allow.” The Witch picked up another report and continued scribbling casually:

”But it ultimately originated from this lab...many data points, they need its help for completion. This point, the ’authorities’ cannot deny. After all, this is still First University, this is still a lab of First University. I am just one of the heads of this laboratory.”

This could not diminish the risk about the spread of knowledge of Forbidden Curse, the Warlock thought anxiously, really uncertain what those good-for-nothing heads at the school were thinking.

”Squeak!”

The office door was pushed open slightly, and then two small heads peeked through, one above the other; the top one was Su Ya, and the bottom one was Poseidon, both sets of fox ears perked up, looking very alert.

Noticing the two pairs of eyes gazing straight at them, Su Ya quickly used her advantage of being able to speak, pointing at Poseidon hiding below her:

”She’s the one who pushed the door open, it has nothing to do with me!”

”Squeak squeak!”

Poseidon loudly protested her partner’s betrayal.
