High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1358: Chapter 105: Seeing Big Black Cat Again

”What does this imply?” Zheng Qing halted Xiao Xiao’s intention to continue speaking.

”It’s obvious.” Xiao Xiao was accustomed to Zheng Qing’s slowness of understanding, shrugged his shoulders, and explained: ”You and I are aware of Nicolas’s existence due to prophecies or various coincidences... The school might be aware too, but based on their previous actions, they would likely prefer to keep things quiet.”

But the recent reports were all promoting the existence of the Outer God from various angles.

”Are you suggesting that someone doesn’t want the school to suppress this matter?” Zheng Qing was beginning to understand what Xiao Xiao meant.

”Obviously.” Xiao Xiao raised his hand, stopping Zheng Qing from speaking, and continued the analysis: ”The question is not about ’wanting or not wanting’—in fact, those people are already doing it... The question is, what will the school think?”

”What will they think?”

”The school would be annoyed at such an irresponsible individual, seek them out, and give them a good talking-to.”

”What does this have to do with us?” Zheng Qing listened, confused.

Xiao Xiao sighed heavily, giving him a sympathetic look.

”If I remember correctly, you’ve reported the disappearance of the Black Mountain Goat to the School Works Committee twice in a row.” He always had patience for this sort of thing:

”...But the school has been dragging its feet and hasn’t dealt with it, while you were very frustrated and even complained to the student council... If the school wants to find the mastermind behind these messages, they only need a simple divination spell to find that you appear in many scenes. Conveniently, you’ve been interviewed by the Beta Town Post, and there’s a Campus Newspaper journalist among your acquaintances.”

”I have nothing to do with those reports!” Zheng Qing screamed like a cat that had its fur on end.

”Whether it’s related or not isn’t important, what’s important is that you, we, are already involved.” Doctor folded the newspaper, ending the conversation, and patted the young cost student on the shoulder: ”Are you going to the library after class? Do you want me to save you a seat?”

”I need some quiet.” Zheng Qing’s face was gloomy as he looked at the newspaper under Doctor’s arm, fighting the urge to snatch it and read it several more times: ”Hold the seat for me too...”

”What should I do if there’s something I need to ask you?”

”Send a Flying Paper Crane... no, never mind, you know about the Cat Fruit Tree, right? If something comes up, you can find me there after the afternoon classes.”

”Wait... where are you going now? Professor Yao’s Curse Course starts in just half an hour!”

”Lab assignment.”

Zheng Qing mumbled a vague answer, waved without turning back, and disappeared into the depths of the path.

...

...

The so-called ’lab assignment’ did not come from Professor Montreya’s lab, but rather from Su Shijun’s Ascend Dimension lab. This morning, during the early class, the young cost student received a Paper Crane from Su Daxu, asking him to come to the lab after the class.

Tied to the crane’s leg was an excuse slip with signatures from Professor Yao of the Curse Course and Teacher Zhang of the Fu Lu Class.

It was an excuse slip for the entire day.

Since the beginning of the term, Zheng Qing had never asked for such a long leave—apart from the days spent lying in the school hospital. Even if he was hospitalized, most of the time was during weekends, rarely during normal class hours.

Zheng Qing was very curious about what Su Shijun wanted from him.

The campus was very refreshing today, perhaps because the weather was too hot yesterday, and the Weather monitor had received too many complaints, so today they adjusted the temperature very appropriately. A thin layer of clouds covered the morning sun, and a comfortable moisture filled the air. The shrubs and lawns took the opportunity to grow wildly, and Zheng Qing took longer than usual to find Su Shijun’s laboratory.

”It wasn’t me who was looking for you.” Behind the office desk, Su Daxu was reviewing several experimental reports. Seeing the warlock, she pointed with her feather pen to the side: ”It’s looking for you.”

The witch was wearing a white coat similar to a doctor’s today, her hair simply tied up at the back of her head, with a few long strands of hair at her temples, revealing her fair and slender neck. She had hexagonal gold-rimmed glasses on her face and a touch of deep red on her lips. The blinds behind her were not tightly closed, and the sporadic sunlight filtered through the gaps, shining on her, making her seem like she was glowing.

The young cost student had to exert much effort to shift his gaze away from Su Shijun.

”Who, who is looking for me?” he murmured, his gaze turning to a corner of the office.

A big black cat was lying bored on the sofa, with a plate of sheep’s milk in front of it. Perhaps because it had been left out for too long, a thin layer of milk skin had formed on the sheep’s milk. The black cat was using its tongue to fold the milk skin bit by bit, as if trying to turn it into a flower.

The warlock was taken aback.

”How did you get out?!” he exclaimed in surprise.

The big black cat rolled its shiny red eyes and abandoned the milk skin flower by its mouth.

”Why can’t I come out?” it snorted with its nose.

Zheng Qing felt embarrassed and covertly glanced at the office desk next to him with the corner of his eyes. Su Shijun was staring seriously at the experimental report in front of her, seemingly completely unaware of the boy speaking just now.

”What I mean,” Zheng Qing slowed down, finally regaining some confidence: ”Didn’t Forty-one say you would be placed in a safer place?”

He emphasized the word ’placed’ a bit harder, hoping the black cat would understand the underlying meaning. Ever since blowing up that Secret Realm world, Mr. Wu had told Zheng Qing about the Forbidden curse seed in his body, the young wizard had a deeper understanding of the black cat’s power.

The school couldn’t possibly allow such a dangerous creature to wander around.

The boy’s gaze subconsciously glanced around, half expecting to see a figure with a Daoist bun and wearing a blue robe.

The black cat’s whiskers beside its mouth twitched downward, looking somewhat irritated.

”Is this the first thing you ask when you see me?” It shouted at the warlock, then ranted to the witch behind the desk: ”You trust such a guy with a child? A complete muddle of a head, not thinking a bit about others... Seems generous on the surface, buying stuff for friends willy-nilly, taking care of unrelated sprites, but actually, he’s utterly selfish to the extreme. Those useless to him can be discarded without hesitation, and he doesn’t care about wasting things that don’t belong to him.”

Zheng Qing listened with his mouth agape.

He didn’t know where the black cat’s resentment came from.

”Calm down, calm down.” The boy took a step back, afraid that the black cat would swing its tail as thick as his arm in excitement—one swipe would surely break bones, he worried.

Hearing Zheng Qing speak up, the black cat stopped its clamor immediately and lay back on the sofa, licking the milk skin a couple of times.

”I’ve always been calm, before I saw you,” it muttered, seemingly also puzzled by its own rudeness just now.

Zheng Qing quietly sighed in relief.

Turning his head, Su Shijun was propping her chin up, watching the interaction between him and the black cat with relish. Noticing the warlock’s gaze, the owner of the laboratory coughed.

”Continue, don’t mind my work.” She reassured in an indifferent tone, then made a loud rustling sound with the experimental report in her hand, as if the scene of her propping her chin up just now was Zheng Qing’s illusion.
