High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1360: Chapter 107: Pig-Ear Cat

In fact, the whole day off that Su Shijun requested for Zheng Qing was completely necessary.

When the young scholarship recipient finished all the reports and inspections and left the Two-Dimensional Evolution Lab, the sky was already painted with a glittering moonlight.

Poseidon, like a little puppy, darted around the young man’s advancing footsteps.

Having walked a long distance, Zheng Qing could still feel the piercing gaze from behind—I—Su Ya had been pouting and watching the figures of a person and a fox leaving. Ever since she betrayed the Little Fox in the ’Door Opening Incident’, Poseidon had ignored her for almost the entire day.

Su Ya dared not vent her anger at Su Shijun, and could only sulk, blaming everything on Zheng Qing. That afternoon, while Zheng Qing was filling out the report, she either handed him a cup of cold tea or a fruit infested with worms.

Such matters were beyond reasoning.

”Next time adults are talking, children shouldn’t eavesdrop!” The warlock, watching the Little Fox darting around his feet, seriously cautioned, ”Otherwise, your ears will turn into pig ears!”

”Squeak, squeak, squeak!”

”This is true! You didn’t grow pig ears today because I took the curse for you... You’ll see when I turn into a cat later.” Zheng Qing was seriously bluffing—he didn’t know how to educate children, but he could still repeat the words he remembered adults saying to children.

”Squeak...”

Amid Poseidon’s doubtful squeaks, the duo passed by the academic building. It was late, and afternoon classes had long ended; apart from the study room, there were hardly any other figures in the academic building.

Zheng Qing asked the Little Fox to play in the flower bed outside the academic building while he himself slipped into an empty curse practice room, pulled out a Transformation Potion, and gulped it down without adding any auxiliary materials.

The lack of neutralizer made the Magic Potion highly potent, but also allowed the effects to kick in the quickest.

Soon, the young man fell into a drowsy state.

When he awoke, his vision had transformed into that of a cat’s. He looked up at the wall clock; only less than a quarter of an hour had passed. As he became more proficient in Transformation, the time required for it shortened.

”The taste isn’t good, though.”

The Black Cat smacked his lips, tasting the bitterness lingering on his tongue, then leaped to the window sill of the practice room.

Before leaving the window, he glanced at the large mirror in the classroom, saw the reflection of the Black Cat, shook his whiskers, curled his tail around, and then lifted his forepaw to tinker with his own ear.

’When adults speak to children, they must always follow through,’ he told himself in his heart.

...

...

When Poseidon saw the Black Cat again, he didn’t recognize him at first— the originally dignified Black Cat was now dragging a pair of pig ears as big as palms, twinkling, and from a distance, looked like a little black pig—after recognizing him, the Little Fox laughed so hard it tumbled directly into the shallow water pool from the pebble-covered flower bed.

The Black Cat, with a stern face, watched the Little Fox splashing in the pool, unsure whether keeping his ’promise’ was a good or bad thing.

But it was just a minor matter.

After pulling the soaking wet Little Fox out of the pool and affixing several Drying Charms to it, the Black Cat took it toward the Cat Fruit Tree. Along the way, he continued earnestly warning it not to eavesdrop on adults talking carelessly.

The Little Fox nonchalantly squeaked, eyes chasing a Twin-tailed Squirrel that scurried under a fir tree, looking eager to try.

”Don’t bully squirrels... or other small animals!” The Black Cat sternly cautioned the Little Fox, simultaneously thinking of his own cat clan.

It had been a long time since he had managed his animal community; he wondered if those guys had prepared any tributes or bullied other small animals around the academy.

From afar, the call of the Three-voice Nighthawk echoed through the treetops.

The first and third tones are heavy, the second tone is relatively light.

The Black Cat flicked its ears, as big as palms—He unexpectedly discovered that bigger ears benefited his hearing; now he could hear farther and clearer sounds—this inspired him greatly. The Black Cat looked down at his belly. He felt that there were many more parts of himself that could be enlarged.

The Nighthawk called out a few more times.

The Black Cat recognized the sound this time; it was the call of the Three-voice Nighthawk. This bird was named ’Three-voice Nighthawk’ because its calls always came in sets of three, much like a Morse code operator signaling.

Old-school wizards believed that the Three-voice Nighthawk was a harbinger for lost souls, always waiting for the dying’s souls. That raspy call was akin to the last breaths of the dying.

This was not a good omen.

Zheng Qing would rather see Ravens flying around above his head.

Croak, croak, croak.

Seemingly to accentuate his thought, a White Raven flapped its wings, leaping from one tree’s canopy to another, its mocking voice lingering in the air.

The Black Cat stopped in its tracks.

Wizards wield magic, hence they believe more strongly in the power of mysticism than any other group. Ancient legends always have some basis, and while most wizards might not fully believe them, no wizard would ignore those mysterious warnings.

Transforming into a cat today was partly due to Professor Li’s arrangement; Zheng Qing needed to transform at least once a month to suppress his headaches. Moreover, various troubling matters kept piling up—Black Mountain Goat, Outer God, Faceless Demon, school disputes, final exams, School probation, etc.—all of which greatly vexed the young scholarship student.

He needed a hidden corner to change his mood.

The Cat Fruit Tree was the best choice.

But now.

The Three-voice Nighthawk and the White Raven, like two inauspicious omens, weighed heavily on the Black Cat’s head, making it too burdensome even to lift his ears. Zheng Qing was somewhat hesitant if his choice was correct.

Little Fox hadn’t noticed the Black Cat had stopped and ran several meters ahead before realizing the Black Cat was gone.

”Squeak, squeak?!”

It tilted its head and called out twice towards the Black Cat not far behind.

The Black Cat sighed heavily.

With many debts one stops worrying, with many fleas one stops itching. After all, they were still at school; the situation could not get any worse. For him, the Cat Fruit Tree was still the only tranquil choice.

”Be smart when we’re under the Cat Fruit Tree later,” the Black Cat warned the Little Fox, ”If I tell you to run, you must sprint... Go straight to Qingqiu Mansion... you know the way, right?”

Little Fox, impatiently, flicked its tail, rustling a small cluster of bushes behind it.

Ever since arriving at this academy, protected by the Owner of Qingqiu Mansion, it had yet to learn what fear was.

In the distance, the towering figure of the Cat Fruit Tree appeared in the vision of the Black Cat and the Little Fox.

The yellow and white furballs, perched on various branches, weighed down the entire tree. Just as the Black Cat was about to howl, he suddenly caught sight of a small white shadow lying on his Throne.

He immediately stifled his howl back.

How did she get here?

The Black Cat wondered, raising a paw to rub his ears. The ’pig ears’ fluttered, quickly returning to their original state under his kneading, standing erect and shapely.
