High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1246: Chapter 308 Epilogue

After the contract was signed, Elena did not, as Zheng Qing had imagined, immediately break free from the sapling and walk out from the transparent sphere with poise.

She remained with her eyes closed, her head lowered, as if she were a statue.

”She will come back, but not now.”

Regarding this, Mr. Wu did not shy away from speaking the truth, ”You need to know that we have already done everything we can. What happens next is up to her. It’s like a person who has fallen off a cliff; we have thrown down a rope and she has grabbed it, but when she will be able to climb back up on the rope, is unknown.”

”Perhaps an hour, perhaps a day, perhaps a month, perhaps a year.”

Mr. Wu did not continue.

Zheng Qing felt that he had explained enough.

”Alright, alright, now that the pressing matter is dealt with, you should return to school!” the Yellow Flowered Cat said, standing on its feet, clapping its paws, swishing its tail, and signaling the two young wizards to follow, ”I’m only responsible for getting you inside the school... If you return too late and Grandpa Niwu locks you out of the dorm, that’s not my concern.”

Zheng Qing took out his pocket watch and glanced at it; it was already eight o’clock at night.

”It seems we’ve missed today’s class meeting,” he muttered, barely managing to smile at Jiang Yu, ”Is it still okay for me to ask for leave from you now?”

The witch glanced at the young funded student.

”Today is Saturday,” she reminded softly, ”The class meeting is tomorrow night.”

The boy suddenly realized he had remembered the time wrong.

So much had happened in just one day that he felt disconnected from the real world. Magic could transform life and death, invert time and space, but it couldn’t shorten the distances in one’s heart.

”Pay attention, I’m going to open the door!” the Yellow Flowered Cat yelled, pulling open the glass door of the Big Clock in the corner of the bookstore, shouting at the two young wizards, ”Remember to manage your time...”

Jiang Yu tightened her trench coat and nodded at Zheng Qing, leading the way.

Zheng Qing hesitated for a moment, then looked back at the transparent sphere floating above the desk not far away, watching the sapling, until he couldn’t help but ask Mr. Wu, ”She... Where will she be?”

”Are you asking if the Gypsy Witch Coven will take her away?” Mr. Wu was very clear about his disciple’s state of mind and reassured him, ”For now, the Gypsy witches don’t have enough power to maintain this protective barrier... She will stay here in our bookstore for the time being. Until she awakens.”

This answer made the boy breathe a sigh of relief.

He didn’t know where the Gypsy witches’ home was, and his only connection with those witches was through Elena alone. If Elena were taken away by her elders, meeting her again could be indefinitely delayed.

Now, with the professor watching over her, he could be completely at ease.

”Hurry up!!” the Yellow Flowered Cat shrieked.

Just before the warlock left, Mr. Wu gave one last instruction, ”Let’s call it a day with today’s events, but your real troubles have just begun.”

”The more you know, the heavier your responsibilities become.”

”There are a few more weeks left in this term, I will find an appropriate opportunity to take you around, to see different places, to help you familiarize yourself with your own identity... to prepare for taking on more responsibilities.”

Zheng Qing nodded, unable to decide whether to feel happy or burdened.

”Let’s talk later! The passage is closing!!” Yellow Flowered Cat roared loudly, tugging on the glass door of the Big Clock.

The entire bookstore trembled and buzzed with the sound.

...

...

After sending the two young wizards back to school, Yellow Flowered Cat headed straight to the bookstore’s front desk.

Mr. Wu had returned to his desk, squinting at a bookshelf a few steps away, apparently considering which book to pick. The glass sphere containing a small sapling floated beside the desk, speckled with golden light, making the little Tree Spirit seem much more lively.

”Don’t you really care about what’s happening at the school anymore?” Yellow Flowered Cat jumped onto the desk, staring directly at Mr. Wu.

”What’s happening at the school?” Mr. Wu seemed somewhat surprised: ”Isn’t everything going well?”

”Everything’s going well?!” Yellow Flowered Cat’s feline face twisted as he shrieked at the top of his lungs: ”Students from two colleges are fighting everywhere, professors are indifferent and cooped up in Black Prison staring blankly at Xuanhuang Wood, Black Wizards and the Moon Council are up to no good on Buji Island, and there are mice scurrying around everywhere!! And you say everything’s going well?!”

”You omitted the most crucial point,” Mr. Wu raised a finger to remind him: ”A Big Wizard has appeared in the North District, one who has created a future for Tricksters.”

Yellow Flowered Cat puffed out his cheeks, seemingly trying to appear even angrier.

Mr. Wu raised a second finger: ”Why should I worry about the school? If students fight, there are school rules to deal with it; the professors guard Black Prison because it’s worth guarding... Perhaps you have this or that opinion about Xiao Shihui and If Foolish, but they are all very wise wizards.”

”As for the Moon Council and the Dark Council, they have been like this for thousands of years. My presence or absence makes no difference.”

”The only thing worth paying attention to is the newly ascended Big Wizard in North Beita Town.”

”Just a Big Wizard, what’s worth paying attention to?” Yellow Flowered Cat clearly did not understand why the bookstore owner was so concerned about that young Witch: ”Besides, the North District is nothing but a bunch of Tricksters...”

”Tricksters are also wizards,” Mr. Wu corrected seriously.

Flower Cat raised both paws: ”Yes, yes... What I meant to say was, a bunch of Ordinary Wizards, that’s all.”

Mr. Wu tucked in both fingers and interlaced his hands, holding them together, gazing at a bookshelf a few steps away in a trance, his voice sounding somewhat deep and ethereal in the silence of the bookstore:

”They were originally free, without Gods, but they created a God for themselves. From an outsider’s perspective, it is difficult to judge their actions. But I know that Divine Spirits do exist in this world. The real Divine Spirits would be very angry at their actions.”

”Compared to freedom crouched in the sewage, people would rather become believers in the sunlight.”

”The history of the North District is like the mad ravings of a lunatic, composed of an entanglement of Chaos, distortion, and darkness. For the first time in history, the people of the North District have been able to escape Chaos and the twisted reality. History now has an anchor, a soil where ’reason’ can exist.”

”This is to prepare the way for Jehovah in the wilderness, to make straight a highway for God in the desert” (Adapted from Isaiah 40:3)

”’He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut’” (From Revelations)

”So what? What are you trying to say?” Yellow Flowered Cat, growing impatient, waved his paws as if swatting at irritants in the air.

”Time is great. One day, we will all vanish. Dreams, ambitions, fears, good, and evil, everything will turn to dust, buried together in the unfathomable Ruins. After the Ruins, a new World will be born, and new life will bloom. All that belongs to neither you nor me will belong to the new generation.”
