High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1210: Chapter 272 Chaos (Part 1)

”Alarm (Red), Alarm (Red) ...”

”Alarm received, alarm received ... Unauthorized illegal border crossing detected, unauthorized illegal border crossing detected ... position unconfirmable, position unconfirmable ... spatial fold marks detected, spatial warping and fracturing detected, suspected Outer God aura detected ... threat level MAX, threat level MAX, danger level extremely high!”

”Please activate the Starry Sky Academy Protection Legal Formation network combing and investigation system.”

”Please activate the Starry Sky Academy Protection Legal Formation network combing and investigation system.”

The glaring red light almost burst through the thick walls, shining outside the building. The grating alarm sound mixed with the mechanical broadcast echoed throughout the entirety of the School Works Committee office building.

A moment later, the office door was yanked open with a ”whoosh”.

”Didn’t you hear the red alarm? What are you doing?” yelled the Blue Gown who entered, somewhat frantic, ”Why haven’t you stopped it from calling out yet?!”

The Blue Gown’s face still bore several prominent red marks, and his eyes looked a bit dazed, as if he had just woken up. From the black trim on his sleeves and neckline, it could be inferred that he was a fourth-year veteran.

”I, we are looking for the SOP manual!” The ones in charge of the duty were two first-year students, one in a Red robe and the other in a Blue robe; the response came from a Blue robe of the Starry Sky Academy, while his companion was bent over, bottom up, frantically flipping through a pile of manuals on the floor.

”... They never told us during training how to activate the entire network combing and investigation system.” The first-year Blue robe pointed to the pile of materials on the floor, his tone slightly irritated, ”These things, we’d definitely need a whole morning to go through them! We were on the night shift just yesterday!”

”We’ve already notified the principal’s office, the School Works Committee office, the Assistant Team office, and the Professor Joint Meeting office, but there’s been no response so far,” shouted the Red robe who was flipping through the SOP manuals on the floor.

”Bang!” The office door was yanked open once more, and a weary-faced Grey Robe Wizard strode in: ”Who can tell me what’s going on?”

”Some lab might be conducting unreported summoning experiments...”

”Or maybe a professor secretly brought something from outside again...”

The two first-year duty officers spoke almost simultaneously, having evidently not pre-arranged their responses, leading to vastly different explanations.

The two duty officers exchanged glances, tugged at the corners of their mouths, and the control room momentarily fell into an awkward silence, with only the shrill alarm continuing to wail incessantly.

”Hmph,” the Grey Robe who just entered scoffed, then turned to address the fourth-year veteran, ”Deduct this month’s credit rewards for them, reprimand them in tomorrow night’s regular meeting... and you should prepare new duty officers.”

The veteran sighed heavily.

”They started off very responsible,” he tried to excuse his two subordinates, ”but you know, the Protective Legal Formation is overly sensitive... and those Big Wizards in the school never really follow the rules...”

”That’s why we train new duty officers every three months.” The Grey Robe Wizard walked to the central console, skillfully adjusting the nodes on the Array while contemplating, ”Perhaps, in the next policy revision, we should shorten the active period of duty officers to one month, to ensure that there are always sufficiently vigilant officers in this office.”

As he spoke, the alarm from the Protective Legal Formation gradually subsided, but the striking red light that enveloped the office did not dissipate.

At last, the Grey Robe Wizard glanced over the quiet office and turned to leave. ”Summon the patrol team, and inspect the forty-two suspected risk points identified by the system, one by one! Prioritize the areas on the edges of the Array!”

”It’s Saturday today, most of the patrol group members are off duty!” The Veteran couldn’t help but remind, ”And the Professors are not around, the Assistant Team and most of the school workers have gone to support the Hunting Ground at Starry Sky Academy... We don’t have enough staff right now.”

”Damn it!” the Grey Robe Wizard muttered a curse under his breath and instructed, ”Find the student council! Find Lei Zhe and Augustus, get them to arrange some support from the fourth-year students!”

Before his words even faded, the tail of the school worker’s grey robe had already vanished around the doorway, leaving only the Veteran of Starry Sky Academy and two first-year duty officers staring at each other, frozen in place.

”Ah,” the Veteran sighed, swinging his fist in mid-air, his tone gloomy. ”Why did it have to be my shift today... I’d rather be injured and lying in the school hospital.”

”When you sit at home, trouble comes from the sky,” the Blue Robe duty officer, also looking rather dejected, said, ”Honestly, our duty is only between that of Puppets and observers, so why do we need such high vigilance? The school isn’t dead!”

”Shut up, you fool!” his companion quickly covered his mouth while nervously glancing towards the corridor outside, whispering a stern rebuke, ”Do you want to fall through the stairs when descending or tumble into the lake when pushing the door? The school doesn’t like his clothes, and it’s not our place to comment!”

”You two, come on the patrol too!” the Veteran interrupted the two duty officers’ chatter, instructing, ”If you do find something, maybe you won’t need to be warned at next week’s regular meeting.”

”Will we really find anything?” the Blue Gown clearly doubted it. ”The last time the Protective Legal Formation issued a MAX level alert, it turned out Professor Chen was sneakily conducting an Ascend Dimension experiment, causing abnormal fluctuation in dimensions... The time before last during the winter hunt at school, when it issued a MAX level alert about a Legendary Level Black Wizard in the forest, it just turned out to be a newly born small world...”

”And one time the alarm recorded nocturnal invasions by an Outer God, but absolutely nothing happened that night,” the Red Robe added, ”I guess it’s the same case today.”

The Blue Robe duty officer sighed, ”I would honestly prefer it to issue just ordinary alerts, they’re more accurate.”

”Like a Wild Demon,” the Red Robe duty officer apparently agreed with his companion’s comment, ”Wild Demons, no matter how low-level they escape from the lab, the Guardian Formation always detects them instantly.”

”Enough with the nonsense!” the Veteran, grabbing the collars of the two duty officers, pushed them towards the office exit, ”You go ahead and assemble downstairs, I’ll go notify Lei Zhe!”

”Lei Zhe isn’t in the office,” the Red Robe duty officer quickly raised his hand, reminding, ”Hoffman, Uncle Zhang Zhi aren’t here either, only Zhao Qiao from the Three Heroes might be in school... Lei Zhe was invited by Augustus to go outside the school.”

”Outside where?” the Veteran stopped, frowning deeply.

”It should be at 18 Gamma Street,” the Red Robe duty officer shrank his neck slightly, ”I’m just an ordinary member in Will, how would I know such details...”
