Chapter 1245: Chapter 307: Being with You

”You are the first anchor point,” Mr. Wu pointed at Zheng Qing and then explained, ”In the philosophy of classical mysticism, ’love’ is a very important concept. It encompasses the notions of mind, magic, and matter, which is why its power can traverse these three dimensions...”

These words sounded familiar, and Zheng Qing listened with a strong sense of déjà vu.

The young state-sponsored student frowned and thought for a moment and couldn’t help but glance at Jiang Yu. Coincidentally, Jiang Yu also stole a look at him. Both nodded slightly without prior agreement.

Indeed, just a few days before, Professor Yao had mentioned this concept in the Philosophy of Magic class. Yet, unexpectedly, they heard the same words again from another teacher today.

This coincidence cast a shadow over Zheng Qing’s heart.

Because he also remembered the two examples Professor Yao gave afterward: Eurydice died from a snake bite, and Orpheus failed to rescue his wife from hell; Lily Potter used ancient love magic to protect her son, but she herself died under the Killing Curse.

Neither was a good example.

Fortunately, Mr. Wu’s following words didn’t involve those two examples, which gave the young state-sponsored student’s anxious heart a slight relief.

”... Miss Ilyana Jones inadvertently left behind a powerful spell when she was guiding the Exotic Moon Goddess’s descent— a spell filled with sincere emotion, summoned by the power from within. The power of this spell originates from the term we just discussed. I uncovered it while tracing back through time.”

Mr. Wu’s fingers brushed the foot-long leather scroll, sparking a trail of golden sparks.

He then looked at the young wizard:

”This spell is related to you.”

Zheng Qing gritted his teeth, silently observing the scroll, without making a sound.

”Much like a trapped person hanging off a cliff edge yelling for help, we can regard it as a beacon. This gives us a direction to attempt a rescue,” Mr. Wu touched the end of the leather scroll and nudged it slightly toward the young wizard:

”Tracing back to the source, the reason Miss Jones has become the way she is now lies in the wrong choices you four made when you entered the Secret Realm. And now, you earnestly hope she can come back.”

Zheng Qing nodded vigorously.

Mr. Wu smiled:

”You want her to return, and she also harbors affection for this world; these two bonds are the prerequisites for the success of the magic. And the only thing that can resist the Power of the Pact, is the Power of the Pact itself. So I blended that spell with the Power of the Pact, crafting a contract. All you need to do is to sign a pact with her, and perhaps it could free her from her current predicament.”

The leather scroll hovered in mid-air.

One end of the jade scroll rod pointed at Zheng Qing, and the other at the seedling in the transparent sphere.

”Now, we need the second anchor point,” said Mr. Wu as he turned to look at Jiang Yu, who had been standing aside with the Yellow Flowered Cat, calmly observing everything as if she were a mere spectator.

”In theory, a contract only has binding force when signed by the parties involved. But now there is a difficulty... Student Ilyana Jones’s condition is not suitable for signing a contract.”

This was without question.

Regardless of whether Ilyana’s body belonged to her or not, the sheer fact that her consciousness was not fully awake was a significant obstacle to signing a contract. A pact lacking the subjective willingness to sign is practically negligible in effectiveness.

”That’s why we need to make a slight alteration.”

As he spoke, the jade scroll rod spun around, one end facing Zheng Qing, but the other end now pointing at Jiang Yu.

Mr. Wu glanced at the two young wizards and, unsurprisingly, saw two expressions of confusion.

”If I’m not mistaken, when Satoguya descended upon that small World, there were in total four individuals in the Secret Realm... oh, to be precise, three people and one cat.”

Jiang Yu glanced at Zheng Qing.

The young cost student coughed uneasily, avoiding those scrutinizing eyes.

As if unaware of the little interaction between the two youngsters, Mr. Wu continued to analyze calmly, ”... Among the four, Zheng Qing is a party to the contract, and Elena is unable to sign a contract, so we may choose another Witch within the Secret Realm to sign on behalf of Elena.”

”Compared to Student Korma, Student Jiang Yu has a very, very large advantage... she has a contractual relationship with Elena. This relationship will enhance the efficacy of her signature.”

A contractual relationship with Elena? Zheng Qing looked at her in surprise but then quickly remembered the origin of that contract.

The Witch gazed downward, her eyes fixed on the small sapling within the transparent orb, her expression pensive. Prior to entering the Secret Realm, she indeed signed a contract with Elena, which dictated mutual aid obligations, a contract that was also notarized by the Danhag Notary Office.

What was more important was that the contract specified a third-party overseer.

That overseer was standing beside her at this moment.

The young Witch suddenly understood why Mr. Wu chose her to sign the contract in place of Elena. It was like that adage about Queen Mary Stuart: ’She was too young at the time to know that the gifts destiny confers had long been marked with a price in secret.’

The time had come to pay for the gift Elena had given her.

The Witch smiled faintly and nodded without hesitation, ”Shall we sign now?”

Mr. Wu snapped his fingers, tapping the scroll. The brown leather slowly fell, revealing a dense array of runes and spells on the parchment that made one’s head spin at a glance.

The young male and female Wizards stood in front of the scroll.

The Yellow Flowered Cat held out two feather pens.

Jiang Yu took the pen and was about to sign when Mr. Wu put his hand in front of her.

”I need to remind the two of you that this contract possesses a very, very strong binding force.” His gaze was very solemn, slowly passing over the young faces:

”Signing this contract means your destinies will interlink under my witness. This bond will surpass bloodlines, delve into the soul, and not even death will cause it to recede.”

”Are you still willing to sign?”

”I am willing,” Jiang Yu softly replied, lifting the pen to inscribe her name at the bottom of the scroll, then adding in parentheses (On behalf, Ilyana Jones).

”I am willing,” Zheng Qing murmured, feeling a sourness drifting between his brows.

After signing, he gently caressed the scroll.

His fingertips traced the edge of the parchment, and a gilded poem shone brightly at the silent end of the parchment:

Together with you,

You are my comrade in arms,

So I miss you

When I wage my eternal battle

After crossing all engulfment,

You are my battle flag.
