High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1219: Chapter 281 Monologue

Time rewound to moments before.

The moment Jiang Yu aimed the gun at herself, the Gypsy witch truly felt the advent of death.

Her eyes widened as she saw the red gleam spouting from the muzzle, and her mind was instantly crowded with numerous images—the red-haired girl in the dilapidated wizard’s tower fiddling with Tarot Cards, the old man behind the curtain bleeding from his seven orifices from a divination backlash, supplicating at the feet of the Moon God in a communion with another realm, the lips that gently touched the warlock’s in the snow.

Elena’s gaze shifted from the red gleam to the giant ’Black Cat’ beside her.

How beautiful, the word suddenly emerged from the bottom of her heart, followed by an inexplicable pride, and then that bit of pride slowly fell, turning into a deep sorrow.

When had all this begun?

From the first encounter in the Wandering Bar, the first drink they shared?

Or from the first time they fought shoulder to shoulder on Pedestrian Street, beating up Arthur Ness?

No, earlier, even earlier than that.

It all started the moment he stepped onto the school’s private jet.

As a diviner and a medium, Elena possessed an astonishing talent in certain mysterious realms; she could distinctly sense the presence of destiny’s nodes—much like Amber from Atlas Academy among the diviners. Only, Amber saw the karma threads floating beside the wizard, while Elena felt the Power of Destiny flowing around the wizard.

Eastern mages had an apt term to describe her role, Qishi.

In Zheng Qing, Elena saw an intense Power of Destiny she had never seen before, which gave the Gypsy witch desperate to change her own destiny a glimmer of hope.

Thus, their first interaction, their second encounter, and gradually, bit by bit, it developed to the present.

Every diviner respects fate, with the older the tradition, the deeper the understanding of this. The divination skills of the Gypsy witches were well-known within the Mage Alliance. Inherited from this ancient wizardry tradition, Elena had been following the elders since she was young, absorbing the footsteps of destiny.

The footsteps of destiny can be heard but not followed.

Following them would plunge destiny into chaos.

From beginning to end, it was all a pursuit of interests, unrelated to love—Elena reminded herself more than once. Only by doing so could she minimize the entanglement of fate and go about her plans under the cover of Zheng Qing’s Power of Destiny.

Therefore, she used a Love Potion on the warlock, dealt with the suspicious Snake Demon, acted alone, and dealt with every affair between them with a completely utilitarian mindset—if ancient books needed to be deciphered with profound knowledge of Talisman Studies, she asked Zheng Qing to help under the pretext of learning talismans; if visiting Alpha Fortress required Matthew Karen’s key, she refused Zheng Qing’s invitation and joined Matthew’s Hunting team; even the date on lower Yuan festival was nothing but her using Zheng Qing’s Power of Destiny as a cover to interfere with other diviners’ detection of her.

”Why?!”

Vaguely, she seemed to hear the Black Cat roaring at her, why? why? why?

”Because, it’s safe to be by your side.”

The witch’s lips barely moved as she silently answered the roaring question in her heart.

And then, that red gleam finally traversed the long timeline, arriving in front of her.

Elena slowly closed her eyes.

A searing wind brushed past her ear, and a crisp cracking sound came from behind.

It was like the sound of melting ice in early spring, or the sound of flowers blooming in a quiet forest, filled with touching, living hope.

Her eyes moistened, and tears uncontrollably flowed down.

”Boom!!”

Seizing the opportunity, the Black Cat forcefully pressed its paws downward, and Satoguya, already distracted by the shattered moon, was caught off-guard and momentarily lost footing to the Black Cat’s advantage.

The turn of events also gave the other two witches a sliver of opportunity.

At the moment a gap was blasted in the full moon by the Blood Symbol Bullet behind Satoguya, the invisible force that had bound the Gypsy witch immediately dissipated.

Elena finally seized the opportunity, freed herself from the bind, and reached into her pocket to pull out an object resembling a stone column, which she planted firmly into the muddy ground. Then, she cut her palm, and quickly began to murmur a spell.

An indistinct shadow spread out from the stone column, falling on the increasingly ethereal form of Korma, preventing her from slipping further into the void.

It was a material she had prepared for her future summoning of the ”Moon God,” much like the remnant of a Snake Demon that Korma had bought at the Wandering Bar. Probably the only lead left in the entire First University or even the entire Wizard World, bearing the presence of that being, was this one column. Her initial participation in Korma’s magic circle project was to reference the related rituals and gather experience for her own Array.

But now...

”Let it end, let everything end just like that,” murmured the Gypsy witch, her eyes drooping as her fingers traced in the air around the stone column, leaving behind traces of blood-colored runes.

Years of planning, let it all end now.

Lies and deception, let them all end now.

The nightmare before her, let it end now.

It wasn’t about redemption or dreams; it was just a weary soul wanting to rest. But before she could rest, she still could do something.

Korma continued to struggle between the void and reality; Jiang Yu had just put away her Charm Gun and pulled out a black Law book; the roar of the Black Cat was circling the entire small world, wrestling with Satoguya’s tentacles.

The witch took one last affectionate look at the Black Cat that was trying so hard, eventually lowering her head, and clasped her fingers together in front of her forehead, quietly starting to pray:

”Moon God not of this World”

”The symbol of mystery and beauty”

”The most dazzling fruit of the Sephiroth Tree of Life”

”I beseech your descent...”

With the guidance of that column, the witch’s spirit instantly crossed countless planes, entering the darkest depths of the infinite Starry Sky, where a milky light hovered above her spirit.

”Have you decided?” a ethereal and gentle voice gently brushed past her spirit.

”Yes,” answered the witch.

”Even if you will lose your Self?”

”Yes.”

”Are there any final wishes you have?”

The witch’s spirit seemed to look back toward the path home for a moment, an inexplicable little poem surfacing from the bottom of her heart:

”With you, you are my comrade, so I miss you; when I cross everything that has sunk, and go to war with eternity, you are my battle flag.”

”No more wishes,” responded the witch’s spirit at last.

The milky light circled the spirit for a moment before diving down, following the pathway of the spirit at high speed, crossing infinite planes and vivid colors, finally plunging into darkness.

Secret Realm World.

Within the Magic Circle.

In front of the small stone column.

Green shoots emerged from the fingertips of the witch kneeling on the ground.
