High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1201: Chapter 263 Saturday Morning (Part 2)

The black cat emerged from the thick curtains, lightly landed on the floor, stretched comfortably, and let out a big yawn, revealing its sharp fangs.

Perhaps those sharp fangs posed a threat to another fat cat in the room, which suddenly perked up an ear while lying at the foot of Xin Fat Man’s bed, and the soft purring sound from its throat paused for a few seconds.

But soon, the fat cat’s perked ear flopped back down and the purring continued. In its sluggish sleep-fogged mind, it had determined there was no real threat in the room.

From start to finish, the black cat paid no attention to the reaction of the other ”fellow” in the dormitory.

After jumping down from the bed, he sauntered over to the desk, skillfully pulled open a drawer, picked out the Jade Talisman he had prepared the day before, hung it around his neck, and gave one last look at dormitory 403 at six o’clock in the morning—Dylan’s coffin was still empty, he probably wouldn’t finish his night classes and return to sleep for another half hour; Xiao Xiao slept quietly, more like a corpse than Dylan; Xin Fat Man, true to his robust size, snored like a pig, resonating with the fat cat curled up at the foot of his bed in a pleasing harmony.

And his nurtured group of sprites, clustered around his curtains, emitted a delicate faint green glow along with their subtle breathing.

Zheng Qing felt that his little sprites were increasingly getting used to the wizard’s schedule.

On Saturday morning, the campus was as quiet as ever.

The black cat, with light steps, crossed the moist grass, dew-covered shrubs, and clusters of blossoming flowers, soon making his way to the Lakeside of Bell Lake. Nearby was a shortcut that could get him to the edge of Beta Town the fastest.

The morning air was fresh, yet visibility was low. A thin fog flowed over the lake surface, obscuring the distant scenery. The White Tower on the small island in the center of the lake quietly stood there, like a wall-facing ascetic. As far as he could see, the black cat saw not a wizard. Even the usual red big birds and white buffalo that wandered the lake were nowhere to be seen.

Of course, the disappearance of those animals might be related to a few uninvited guests at the far bank.

Because at the rudimentary dock on one side of Bell Lake, several low-tier fishmen were semi-submerged in the water, using the morning fog for cover, and sharpening their Stone tools on a large exposed stone.

Identifying them as low-tier fishmen was simple: If close by, those smelly, dirty, lusterless scales and unadorned fins belonged to low-tier fishmen; if farther away, one could also observe the tools used by the fishmen, those using stone tools were definitely low-tier.

Unlike the Wizard World, the Fishman Tribe still retained many ancient societal structures, and the class division within the tribe was severe. The powerful fishman Elders, who controlled the interactions with schools, held a significant presence in school circles and so their daily needs and apparel were similar to an average wizard.

But the low-tier fishmen, particularly those with weak physical bodies or strength, usually lacked even metal weapons for hunting. If Zheng Qing hadn’t specifically studied the current state of the Fishman Tribe, it would have been hard to believe that in the highly developed Wizard World of the twenty-first century, there existed a civilization that still used Stone tools for hunting.

”Thinking about striking waves in the academy with those old Stone Age tools? What are those fishman Elders thinking?” pondered the black cat as he nimbly passed through a barrier formed by a cluster of golden privets.

As he left the lakeside, the black cat turned its head back and took one last look at the busy corner where the fishmen were.

Through the soft mist, he vaguely saw a few figures in white robes appear beside the fishmen, then one fishman ’plopped’ into the lake, splashing a few water droplets into the air.

”What mischief are Alpha’s people up to now?” With this doubt in mind, the black cat shook its head and vanished into a small low hole in the corner. It vaguely felt that the figures in white robes looked familiar.

But it didn’t matter.

Whatever those in white robes were up to, it had nothing to do with him.

His most important task today was to properly participate in Korma’s magic ritual, then safely leave the Silent Forest, and finally return completely intact to his dormitory.

...

...

”What are you looking at?”

Andrew Taylor noticed his companion appeared somewhat distracted, tugged at his sleeve, and lowered his voice to remind him, ”Focus. Don’t get distracted when we’re dealing with them later... These creatures may be stupid but they’re very sensitive. If they sense you underestimate them, they won’t let it go easily.”

He had two things to attend to at Lin Zhong Lake today. One was to convey certain instructions from Lord Sepulano to the lake, and the other was to meet the Fishman Iseni and jointly attend a small hunting party later on at a private hunting ground in Auspicious.

In any case, Iseni was still considered a member of the ’Tail Serpent Hunting Team,’ especially during this sensitive time, inviting Iseni would more clearly showcase Alpha Academy’s support for the Fishman Tribe.

Upon hearing his captain’s words, Julian withdrew his gaze, his eyes filled with hesitation. This young wizard with black hair and narrow eyes was an atheist with a Heart of Faith, meaning, he had a high spiritual perception.

”I thought I saw a black cat on the opposite shore just now?” Julian looked around uneasily, lowering his voice slightly, ”Of course, it disappeared in a flash... maybe it wasn’t a cat, but a big squirrel. I could be wrong.”

In most cases, both in the East and the West, black cats were seen as a bad omen.

Seeing a black cat when going out was considered very unlucky.

After hearing Julian’s words, the other members of the Tail Serpent Hunting Team turned their eyes towards Amber, the team’s diviner, who had the most authority on this matter.

”As usual.” The diviner, dressed in a yellow robe with graying hair, was silent for a few seconds before gently responding, ”The sky is getting darker and lower... there’s no wind, no waves.”

The skinny Omega shivered involuntarily.

”Does anyone have an extra Clear Heart Symbol?” The son of the restaurant owner pinched his nose and grumbled, ”Why do these guys smell so bad? Iseni smells very clean.”

”I never use that low-tier stuff.” Andrew raised his hand, flaunting the Protein Stone ring on his left hand. The milky magic glow sparkled like a spring, emanating from the stone and enveloping the portly wizard, cleansing any polluting aura trying to come close to him.
