High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1234: Chapter 296 Ancient Magic

”Is this a threat?”

”No,” the young man immediately denied, ”This is a sincere request... a student’s prayer and pleading to his teacher... I know you must have a way.”

The teacher was silent for a moment, ”Actually, I think your choice to become a cat was wiser... That little white cat suits you well.”

The young wizard blushed.

”Sir, these are two different matters!” His voice was somewhat out of control, the spiritual fluctuations sweeping through the bookshelves, flipping a few pages and stirring up a cloud of dust, ”I am a wizard!”

”Perhaps,” the old man chuckled lightly, as if mocking the young man’s choice of words in his panic, yet also reminiscing about the young man’s fresh and intense desires.

After a pause, the teacher asked softly, ”Did you know that she has turned into a tree?”

He was talking about Elena.

Zheng Qing remembered the last scene he saw before losing control, his heart sinking. The spiritual fluctuations that had roiled seconds before suddenly froze in the air, and the entire bookstore seemed to be trapped in jelly.

”You must have a way,” the young man’s voice was dry, stubbornly replying.

”Such as?” The teacher sat in the high-backed chair behind the desk, elbows on the table, fingers interlaced under his chin, leisurely watching the young wizard with a hint of curiosity in his eyes—seemingly puzzled about where the young wizard’s inexplicable confidence came from.

”You have already surpassed ancient wizards!” Zheng Qing revealed his greatest confidence.

”The world also needs to operate according to certain rules,” the teacher replied noncommittally, his gaze passing over the student’s translucent soul, looking towards the red clay teapot still steaming on the stove.

”You must know many powerful magics!” The student, sensing the silent urgency in the air, hurried his speech, ”Like you can drive away the God of Death, you can reverse cause and effect... You can forge her a new body too!”

”Death is indeed not so frightening,” the teacher conceded the student’s point for once but corrected one misunderstanding, ”The only problem is that Miss Jones has not died. She is now between life and death. Much more delicate than your state of existence. It’s not just about giving her a new body and all will be well.”

”You can make time flow backward!” The young wizard finally couldn’t help shouting, ”Just like the last time you helped Su Councilor, you can turn back the hands of the pocket watch a few times!”

The teacher raised his eyebrows.

”It sounds like you still don’t fully understand what I said in the Land of Void,” the teacher sighed softly, ”I know the pressure on your soul has made you quite fragile, but you need to learn to be stronger... Forbidden Curses are powers that break the rules, and although today you have not truly unleashed one, the explosion in that secret realm was also a form of powerful magic closing in on a Forbidden Curse.”

”That means the rules of the secret realm world have been challenged.”

”The unfortunate thing is, that small world was originally born because I reversed time last time, causing a fold in space. The rules of the small world, especially the rules about time, were already fragile.”

”They can no longer withstand another challenge of time reversal. It’s like a thin piece of paper, crumpled harshly and then unfolded—its fibers already fractured. If it’s crumpled harshly again, it will tear without needing to be unfolded.”

”The chaotic underlying rules and the fragile spatial structure can no longer withstand the force of time reversal.”

”Recklessly acting might completely erase that area... Only extensive time can repair such damage. This is also why the Mage Alliance imposes severe restrictions on the use of high-tier curses in this world.”

Zheng Qing floated listlessly in midair, his thoughts in disarray.

He felt a strong sense of powerlessness.

Pearlescent mist rose from the red clay teapot, quietly reaching out and wrapping around the ankles of the young wizard’s spirit, dragging him slowly towards the pot.

The boy let it happen.

The gentleman slightly furrowed his brow.

Life reforge was an extremely detailed magic requiring the wizard performing the magic to possess superb skills, and the life undergoing the magic to have a strong will. If the boy entered the teapot in such a dazed state, he might really come out as a pot of richly flavored tea.

”Do you want to save her?” Just as the young wizard was about to be pulled into the teapot, the gentleman finally spoke, pressing the pause button.

The boy’s eyes suddenly brightened.

He nodded vigorously.

”It will be very hard later.”

”I can try.”

”Do you know what Miss Jones did?” The gentleman didn’t continue to test the young wizard’s resolve; instead, he began to explain straightforwardly, ”She made a deal.”

”She made a deal with an ancient Moon God from another realm. She offered herself as the vessel for the return of that Moon God, inviting him to descend and expel Satoguya that was in the Secret Realm at the time.”

”It was a very risky, very risky plan.”

”But it was the only thing she could do at that time.”

”I greatly admire Miss Jones for her decisiveness and bravery. It’s a precious quality, often found in young wizards.”

”Originally, her soul would have been completely devoured by the descending Moon God, but fortunately, at the moment of the Moon God’s arrival, Satoguya just happened to expel a large mass of clean spirit — a pleasant surprise compared to the already contract-bound weak souls. It was like a landlord finding a bag of gold coins on his way to collect rent.”

”Of course, it was impossible not to pick it up. But after picking it up, that bag of gold coins became a ’landlord’s’ burden, forcing it to waste more time digesting the unexpected gain... This gave Elena the student a little bit of time.”

”Even luckier, in that brief interval, you exploded... Of course, that was no good for you. But for Elena, it was crucial. Because it meant that the Moon God couldn’t fulfill His contract.”

”So...” The young wizard’s face suddenly showed an exhilarated expression.

”No, she hasn’t escaped the fate of being descended upon,” the gentleman regretfully shook his head, ”It’s just that compared to complete extinction, her current condition is slightly better. Do you know ’rate’? It’s a double-headed snake unique to Changshan, two souls in one body, interlinked within each other...”

At this point, the gentleman’s voice abruptly stopped.

He looked at the young wizard, his gaze becoming serious:

”To save her, you need to first save yourself. As far as I know, there may be an ancient magic that can help Miss Jones escape her plight, but this requires signing a contract. Miss Jones’s current condition doesn’t allow her to sign any contract, and if you also cannot, then I am helpless...”

Before he could finish his sentence, the young cost student turned around without a second word and threw himself into the steaming teapot.

The milky white fire jumped fiercely twice, steaming up a swath of pearlescent mist.
