High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1223: Chapter 285: The Newly Advanced Big Wizard

”Don’t be so grateful to me!”

A slightly annoyed voice rang out above Jiang Yu’s head, exceptionally clear in the eerie silence, ”Your law book was a great help too... Of course, if I hadn’t twisted the entrance to the little world to the other side at the last moment, I’m afraid it wouldn’t just be that rabbit that’s turned into charcoal by now! So, you don’t have to be so grateful to me...”

Tears streaming, the Witch raised her tear-blurred eyes looking upwards.

The Yellow Flowered Cat, which Zheng Qing called ’Brother Huang’, was lying on a branch not far above her head, with one leg hanging limply. In front of it was a small, transparent sphere, inside which one could vaguely make out the shadow of a small tree.

”He... he blew up... blew up,” the Witch choked up, the last image in her memory repeated in her mind, enlarging and swirling—a massive Black Cat roaring, suddenly swelling in size, the little world emitting one final cry before space splintered and shards rained down like snow in the deep winter. A deep red light ignited from within the Black Cat, flashing once before vanishing. Then the entire world was swallowed in a radiant, shimmering white light.

”No, he’s still alive.” A slightly hoarse voice came from behind Jiang Yu.

She whirled around.

Through misty tears, she saw a familiar figure.

It was Korma.

However, the Korma in front of her was drastically different from before entering the little world. Her originally brown-black hair had turned a lustrous silver-white, a tadpole-like black mark was imprinted on her pristine forehead, adding a mysterious aura to her delicate face.

But most noticeable was her aura and current state—Jiang Yu felt as though Korma was standing right beside her, yet at the same time, impossibly far away. A vast Magic Power surrounded her, warping the space and light in the vicinity.

Jiang Yu had once felt this sensation from Su Shijun. It was the state of having ascended to a Big Wizard, but not having fully mastered the Big Wizard’s power yet.

”Lucky girl,” noticing the shock on Jiang Yu’s face, the Yellow Flowered Cat on the tree explained considerately, ”She was originally dragged into a void journey by the Power of the Pact, but due to the sudden death of the other party in the contract— that is, the big toad—the contract was terminated, hence she was expelled from the void, returning to reality. And the power of Satoguya’s descent, through the connection of the contract, was inversely channeled into her body...”

The Yellow Flowered Cat’s explanation was quite matter-of-fact, but Jiang Yu, with enough common sense, found it heart-stopping. Whether it was falling into the void or the contract feedback, every step was like walking a tightrope between life and death, and a single misstep could lead to oblivion.

Jiang Yu couldn’t afford to contemplate what impact a newly promoted young Big Wizard would bring.

She wiped the tears from her face and asked anxiously, ”He’s alive? Do you know him?”

”I didn’t at first,” Korma said with a wry smile, ”I thought the Black Cat looked familiar, but I assumed it was Old Mouse’s friend... until I advanced just now, saw the little world collapse, glimpsed a few fragments where timelines intersected, and I guessed his identity.”

”It’s Zheng Qing, isn’t it.”

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, not objecting, thereby accepting the answer.

”No wonder Yilian’s reactions were so strange,” the newly promoted Big Wizard murmured, noting the urgency on Jiang Yu’s face and laughing softly, ”That guy has more secrets than any of us, how could he die that easily... and besides, if he really died, the one who should be most anxious right now isn’t you, but that cat up in the tree.”

”Tsk,” the Yellow Flowered Cat on the tree shook its whiskers, a look of irritation on its face, ”Instead of worrying about that stinking kid, we should think about how to deal with the school’s...”

Before it could finish speaking, a giant golden net shimmering with countless runes suddenly appeared above the Silent Forest. Outside the net, hundreds of figures in black robes stood at its nodes, holding Law books and chanting spells in unison. Every wisp of air in the forest was gathered by the net.

Jiang Yu felt as if hundreds of Suppression Symbols had been stuck onto his body, rendering him unable to muster a trace of Magic Power.

Underneath the net, a Little old man with a pair of pitch-black eyes, wearing a thick woolen robe and leaning on a silver wolf-headed cane, quietly stood behind Korma. He frowned and gazed past the bushes towards the scorched earth.

This was Vice Principal Ruoyu from First University; Jiang Yu recognized his identity instantly.

”You’d better have a decent explanation,” said the Little old man, looking up at the Yellow Flowered Cat on the branch with a hostile tone, ”Engaging in such dangerous activities near First University is not something even the Principal would allow... And you know the current situation. Shi Hui is convinced that this is a ruse by some dangerous forces to lure the Tiger away from the mountain.”

”Has she finally admitted to being the Tiger herself?” The Yellow Flowered Cat dismissed the Vice Principal’s questioning with disdain: ”Unfortunately, I’m past the age of being ’edgy’ and no longer think of myself as a Tiger... so, she’s out of luck.”

”This is not a joke!” Vice Principal Ruoyu slammed his cane forcefully, glancing at the two Witches, especially Korma, with great caution, ”They might be officially charged by Danghag!”

”Wow, Danghag’s Bar Association should send me a big banner of gratitude, since I’ve brought them a generous client,” the Yellow Flowered Cat’s tail tip swept towards Jiang Yu and then to Korma, ”Besides, if I’m not mistaken, it’s been over a thousand years since Danghag has put a Big Wizard on trial... Punishments involving Big Wizards have always been handled by the Great Wizard Council.”

Vice Principal Ruoyu grunted and did not deny the Yellow Flowered Cat’s words.

All was quiet in the forest again.

Only the massive golden net in the mid-air sparkled dazzlingly in the sunlight.

...

...

”Buzz...”

When the explosion in the Silent Forest reached deep into the campus, only a faint and deep rumble was left, causing the windows of lecture halls and dormitories to buzz and rattle.

Jiuyou Academy, girls’ dormitory.

Li Meng, who was sprawling on her bed and sleeping soundly, was startled awake once again by the abrupt buzzing sound. She sat up with a jolt, looked around hazily, and murmured,

”What’s that, my cousin hasn’t called me to get up yet...” The Little Witch turned over, curled back into her blanket, and soon began to snore again.

At her feet, the plush bear Li Neng hung in mid-air, bound tightly and drooping its head. The glassy eyes had long lost their shine, as if protesting against this dark World.
