High School of Demon Hunting

Iseni stood at the back of the crowd, greedily breathing in the air that was gradually becoming more violent. This was the scent the Fishmen loved; in this increasingly peaceful campus, it had become more and more rare.

”Ugh, it stinks! Iseni, keep your tribe away!” Andrew pinched his nose and suddenly moved closer to the side of the young Fishman, loudly complaining.

The surrounding voices were very noisy; if he didn’t speak up, he worried that the Fishman’s small ears wouldn’t catch his voice.

Iseni glared with his pallid eyeballs, his expression displeased: ”Hiss... Stink, I also smell the stink... Hiss... It’s not from us!”

Despite his words, under the oppressive stares of the surrounding young wizards, he still obediently moved to the edge of the lake, intending to tell the crowd of his kinfolk to stay further away.

Then, his brows knotted deeply.

Near Bell Lake, where his tribe’s heads appeared out of the water, the tint seemed an unhealthy green. It was not the green of thriving algae, nor the rust-like color of foul stagnation.

It was a disquieting green.

The water also emitted a foul, fishy scent, entirely different from the Fishmen’s own odor.

”Slap!”

Iseni’s heavy footstep made a deep mud pit on the shore, and in an instant, water seeped out from the bottom, filling up the pit. The water was greenish, sticky, and had an unpleasant smell.

”What’s that?!” Omega, who had been trailing beside Iseni, asked in a high-pitched voice. This short and thin wizard had always been very interested in Fishmen. When in his father’s kitchen, he had more than once discussed with Yota’s chef the differences between the flesh of Fishmen and that of ordinary fish.

This intense scrutiny made Iseni uncomfortable. He turned sideways, avoiding Omega’s gaze, and answered coarsely: ”Hiss... Mud pit... Hiss.”

This response was hardly satisfactory and did not appease Omega’s curiosity.

”It’s a disaster.” A voice whispered in reply.

Omega turned his head and saw Student Amber, the Diviner of the Ouroboros Hunting Team, staring intently at the foul water pit. Among the red and white robes, he was one of the few in yellow. Since both white and yellow were light colors and they had the shade of trees, it wasn’t too glaring.

”Disaster?” Omega dug at his ear, keenly inquiring, ”What kind of disaster?”

”The Fallen Druid’s dark Tree Men bring chaos, as well as light?” Amber gazed at the reflection in the stinking pit, his tone filled with confusion: ”Why do these unrelated and contradictory elements pervade the same omens... and when did the school have Fallen Druids?”

”You’re the Diviner, aren’t you? It’s your job to explain it,” Omega rolled his eyes.

Amber stayed silent for a while, then finally moved his gaze from the water pit and answered softly: ”Talent is human; human nature, mechanical; skills vary in dexterity, days and months are numbered, none in the world can foresee.”

Having said that, he closed his eyes and, leaning against a campanula tree, sat down straight on the ground.

Diviners always acted in enigmatic ways. Omega shrugged, no longer dwelling on the problem, and also not caring why Amber chose to sit on the ground and close his eyes.

He shifted his attention to the increasingly intense conflict not far away.

So far, all conflicts were confined within words; and the White-robed, away from home, were very much about strategy, targeting only Nicolas.

Spit and saliva flew as insults filled the air.

Nicolas trembled with rage at the attacks coming from the White-robed opposite him.

There was anger, a chill in the heart, and a thread of uncontrollable fear.

The malice of the white-robed students was undisguised, and the schadenfreude expressions of many in red robes also made it hard for him to breathe.

After all, he was just an average wizard. Even after three years at First University, he had never encountered such a scene. As the saying goes, ”When a thousand men point the finger, a man ends without illness,” and although there were not yet a thousand people cursing him, it gave the young wizard a faint feeling of palpitations.

He wanted to shout back, but all around him were bustling students; he didn’t even know whose words were worse.

Until even worse words reached his ears:

”I’ve always thought that werewolves’ stinky bloodlines were already a disgrace to the wizard world, and I can’t believe there are races willing to interbreed with them.”

”The smell alone is enough to make one vomit.”

”His other half-blood doesn’t even belong to a wizard!”

”No, no, no, from a legal standpoint, tricksters are considered wizards... we stand on the side of justice, so we can’t say such incorrect things.”

”Hey, those tricksters in the North District really stop at nothing to get our talents.”

”I heard that if you just wear the school’s robe and sit in the bars of North District for a while, a swarm of young girls will throw themselves at you...”

”Hmm, I heard his mother somehow mixed herself into the Oswald family’s bonfire feast that way...”

”Heh heh.”

Two malicious laughs filled Nicholas’s ears.

Nicholas’s mind conjured up the image of that warm, loving figure.

He gasped for air, his heart pounding crazily in his chest. His eyes rapidly filled with blood vessels, and his ears turned red from the swelling.

Anger made his hearing so keen that he easily located the two vile individuals.

Two white-robed alpha students were leaning against a ginkgo tree, casually chatting. Their platinum hair, pale faces, and the blood-red emblems on their robes clearly marked their identities.

Feeling his angry gaze, the two alpha students curled their lips and provocatively flashed a bit of their sharp teeth.

Nicholas’s fists were clenched tightly, a roar coming from his throat, his whole body trembling. The disgust in his blood for vampires, combined with those vile words just now, completely stirred up the violent emotions deep within his heart.

He wanted to tear those two vampires to shreds with his bare hands!

”Tsk tsk, it’s the big dog’s nature, just tease a little and it gets all excited.”

”I’ve always thought that it was a mistake for the school to allow beasts to study, and to be classmates with us is simply irresponsible to all wizard lives.”

”They are more suited to staying in the Silent Forest, dealing with those stinking centaurs, minotaurs, and birdmen.”

”Do you think this big dog will transform and come bite us?”

”Hey, he’s a veteran first-year, already warned by the school more than once. If he dares to touch a single hair on us, the school’s enforcement team will make him disappear from this campus before night falls. And as for such mixed-blood big dogs, even if they transform, what threat could they be?”

”Now that you mention it, I kind of hope he charges over here. Even if he doesn’t, just taking out his law book would do.”
