Chapter 1205: Chapter 267 The Third-Party Supervisor

For the Gypsy witch’s cryptic suspicions, the Black Cat naturally tried his best to deny it. But he had just shaken his head twice when he suddenly realized that his identity should still be unknown to everyone. Why was he denying it? Or why did he feel guilty?

After shaking his head from side to side, he paused, and then made a very exaggerated movement of nodding twice, as if he was just observing the environment around him. As he shook, he spoke nervously, ”Why do I feel like a black shadow just swept past the corner of my eye?”

His attitude was so sincere that he believed it himself.

Elena’s lips twitched.

As the leader of the exploration squad, Korma, after hearing the Black Cat’s warning, responsibly drew out a talisman paper and ignited it with a flick of his hand. A gentle magic fluctuation spread in all directions, and soon the magic feedback indicated that everything around them was normal.

”Perhaps you just saw things,” Korma deduced.

”I’m really sorry for making you waste a talisman paper,” the Black Cat sincerely expressed his apologies. Korma waved his hand dismissively.

Compared to the Black Cat’s somewhat exaggerated reaction, Jiang Yu was much calmer.

She didn’t respond to the Gypsy witch’s suspicion but took the opportunity when the Black Cat was shaking his head to look upwards. Then she saw the wonderful sight of the sun dancing with the moon in the sky, and the moon that was as large as a cartwheel, much larger than the sun.

”Wow,” the witch in the red mask showed a hint of confusion in her eyes, her voice full of admiration, ”You never told me this secret realm had such a magical view... You never mentioned how big the moon is here!”

Before she could finish speaking, a jade stone wrapped in a multicolored silk thread on the witch’s wrist emitted a bluish light, flashing briefly.

Jiang Yu immediately snapped back to reality and turned her face towards Elena, ”And you didn’t tell me that the moon here also has an enchanting effect.”

”Enchanting? No, it’s more than just enchanting,” the Gypsy witch’s gaze returned to the crystal ball before her, calmly explaining, ”But it’s okay; as long as we don’t look up at it, it won’t interfere with our mission... I’ve divined this already. As for why I didn’t tell you, it’s because until today, I didn’t know it would appear like this.”

”Indeed,” Korma echoed nearby.

While they spoke, a tarot card suddenly fell from the orbit of cards surrounding Elena and struck the Black Cat. He turned his head and glanced at the card that had landed on him; it was The Hanged Man, showing a man lying on a wooden frame with his legs dangling and his head hanging down, shining like a lightbulb under the sun.

The man looked ugly, that was the Black Cat’s first reaction.

Why did it land on me?

With this second thought in his mind, the Black Cat looked up, puzzled, at the Gypsy witch, suspecting whether she might have learned something and was retaliating against him. This made him subtly tuck his tail closer.

”What does this mean?” the Black Cat asked coarsely, trying to appear more justified.

Elena hesitated before bending down to pick up the tarot card. Then she looked at the image of The Hanged Man and fell into silence. In most books interpreting tarot cards, The Hanged Man is always linked with ’sacrifice’. Just as The Chariot is linked with ’success’ and The Star with ’hope’.

Given the current situation, this was not a good card.

”A minor mishap,” the Gypsy Witch nonchalantly retrieved the card, then glanced at the Black Cat. ”Anyway, you have nothing to do with today’s activities, go back home and don’t create chaos here.”

Was I being expelled? This thought emerged in the Black Cat’s mind.

Before he could figure out how to respond to Elena’s words, a new witch wearing a Red Mask suddenly spoke up, interrupting his train of thought.

”If I’m not mistaken, you were planning to have this Black Cat act as the ’third party’, right?” Jiang Yu pulled out a piece of Parchment from her handbag and waved it in front of Elena. ”If it leaves, who will act as the third party between us?”

Third party? The Black Cat looked at the two witches in surprise—Elena wanted him to be the third party between the two of them? He felt that the word and its usage were subtly peculiar.

The Gypsy Witch evidently had overlooked this detail, and after a few seconds of stunned silence, she slowly nodded, ”Yes.”

”If you think there’s any risk involved, then we still have the opportunity to stop. Otherwise, your recent action was merely an attempt to deceive yourself,” Jiang Yu’s tone was a bit impolite.

Korma stopped his feather pen, looking worriedly at Elena.

The Black Cat couldn’t help it anymore and interrupted the slightly heated conversation between the two witches.

”Excuse me,” he raised a paw and asked weakly, ”Could someone explain what ’third party’ means? What do you want me to do as the third party?”

Both witches in Red and White Masks turned toward the Black Cat in unison, their eyes flickering with inexplicable colors. For a moment, nobody answered the Black Cat’s question.

It was Korma who couldn’t bear it anymore and briefly explained, ”Our Magic Ritual requires the use of Spirit Witch Blood, and this student can provide us with the necessary materials. However, for the safety of the provider, she has requested to oversee the use of the blood throughout...”

”To ensure that both parties effectively fulfill their respective agreements, we signed a magic contract,” Elena chimed in. ”Since we drafted the contract contents, it might put some unequal pressure on the other party in some respects. Hence in the contract, we designated a ’third-party supervisor’ to monitor the compliance with the contract terms.”

”Currently, you are the only ’third-party supervisor’ that both parties can accept,” Jiang Yu concluded.

”Third-party supervisor? Me?” The Black Cat’s expression distorted somewhat. ”Why do you think I can fill this role? When you first found me, I was in the Silent Forest! What if I were a malevolent Demon?!”

He had a dreadful suspicion.

He no longer believed in those models of clay and wood—even yesterday afternoon after the Practice class, since he was not injured, Zheng Qing took advantage of the early evening to sneak off to the Atlas Pyramid and with great piety, provided incense to all the Gods he saw, praying for their blessings for everything to go smoothly today.

But based on the current situation, he felt no safety whatsoever, and everything was going awry.

Jiang Yu and Elena exchanged a knowing glance, neither answering the Black Cat’s underlying puzzlement.

Impatiently, Korma tore open the Parchment contract, pulled over the Black Cat’s paw, dabbed some ink into the center of its paw, and then pressed it directly onto the blank area of the Parchment, stomping it twice to leave a bright red paw print.

The Black Cat felt a chilling sensation in the center of his paw.
