Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 925: Chapter 452: A Beautiful Misunderstanding (First Update)

Quentin Parker had previously discussed his views on the copyright lawsuit with Lawrence Winters. Now facing Kenneth Osborne, he reiterated them.

”There’s actually no need to fight this international copyright lawsuit. You’re the defendant, so if you don’t respond, just avoid coming to this country in the future. If you’re the plaintiff, don’t bother; even if you win, it’s hard to enforce.”

Kenneth Osborne had devoted all his energy to the development and application of his specialized field, artificial intelligence. His understanding of the law was only superficial, at the level of a mandatory college course on ”Introduction to Law.”

He believed that matters should be handled by professionals, so he always planned to hire a formidable lawyer or law firm to represent him in this lawsuit.

Quentin Parker’s words were like a cold shower, chilling him to the core.

After a moment of silence, he still insisted on his view: ”Thank you, Mr. Parker, for your advice, but regardless of the outcome, I must proceed with this lawsuit.”

”Why? Would you do something that’s obviously unprofitable?” Quentin Parker said lightly, taking a sip of red wine.

Kenneth pressed his lips together, organizing his thoughts in his mind, and slowly said, ”Mr. Parker, you are an authority in the legal field, and your opinion is certainly well-founded. Legally speaking, this action may indeed maximize the benefits.”

”But for me, and for our country’s industry, I can’t bear this false accusation, and this emerging industry of ours cannot, because of me, bear this false accusation either.”

In this regard, Kenneth had the unique stubbornness and inflexible reasoning typical of a science and engineering-minded man.

He closed his eyes, speaking with some difficulty: ”Mr. Parker, I don’t know how much you know about our country’s technological development, but as a tech expert, I’m very clear: for years, we have been looking up to this first world power across the ocean, striving to catch up.”

”We were once far behind, but now, we are really catching up fast, especially in the field of artificial intelligence, where everyone started from scratch. Our achievements are not inferior to theirs at all!”

”This AI special effect software, from start to finish, from framework to code, I handled it all single-handedly. Nora can testify that she sat beside me, watching me complete the most critical segment of code with my own hands.”

Lawrence Winters nodded vigorously, ”Yes, yes! I’ve told you before, there really was no plagiarism! And no infringement whatsoever! — At most, it’s a coincidence, if they really are identical!”

Kenneth took a deep breath, releasing some of his nervousness, his thoughts becoming clear, his words gradually sharp.

He looked at Quentin Parker, his demeanor gentle, but his stance resolute and unwavering, ”Mr. Parker, since it’s something I didn’t do, why should I let them have their way?”

”If I don’t respond, the court will proceed with a default judgment; even though I didn’t plagiarize or infringe, I’ll be judged to have done so.”

”Once that verdict is out, what impact will it have on me, on this industry in our country, or even on the reputation of our entire nation? Have you thought of that?”

”So even if I might lose, even if winning gains me no compensation, I must respond because I want the whole world to know that what I didn’t do, I just didn’t do. If they want to penalize me, they must trade it for their own credibility!”

Kenneth implied that if it came down to the strict letter of the law, he didn’t think he would lose.

However, the other side might still rule against him because this is their country, and they might forcibly rule against him even without legal grounds.

Such situations are common in cross-border lawsuits, especially in international civil cases not involving criminal matters, which are essentially a disaster area.

But one consequence of a forced judgment is the gradual loss of the other party’s credibility worldwide.

After all, while it takes decades to establish a beacon, destroying its shining light requires just the pull of a switch.

Lawrence Winters didn’t expect Kenneth Osborne to think so far ahead, and she shrank her neck a bit in embarrassment.

For her, she simply wanted the other party to lose because they were trying to make her pay, without considering the dignity of the industry or the national reputation at such a height.

But since Kenneth brought it up, as someone who frequently browses social media and gossip news, she quickly recalled many examples.

She hastily said, ”Kenneth is right! These foreigners always look down on our country’s technological achievements. Anything we’re better at is considered to be plagiarized from them! It’s just disgusting, a disgusting brood conceived by a disgusting mother, taking turns to disgust you 365 days a year! Respond! You must respond!”
