Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 910: Chapter 446: The Higher the Dao, the Greater the Devil (Second Update)_3

But for Olivia Gilbert, this timing suited her best.

Because she not only had to satisfy over three hundred participating Daoists present, but also ensure her own side was pleased, without favoring one over the other.

Moreover, if to please the Daoists present, she offended her own people, and even her father became dissatisfied with her, that would be the true misstep for her.

So from her perspective, she did it just right.

This is the difference in actions caused by their differing social standings.

Everyone is shaped by their growth environment; those who can transcend their environment truly achieve class transcendence.

Lawrence Winters, whose eyes were darker than ordinary people’s, focused intently on Olivia Gilbert, his gaze flickering slightly before nodding, ”Alright, since Miss Gilbert admitted her mistake, we’re not the type to pursue things to the bitter end. By making things easy for others, we make things easy for ourselves. So, please invite Mr. Gilbert to participate in our preliminary matches and enjoy festivities with everyone!”

Olivia Gilbert picked up the subtlety in his words yet smiled gently, saying, ”I wouldn’t dare call it enjoying festivities. My father really enjoys practicing with everyone; that’s how we improve together.”

As she spoke, even Richard Stetford, who had been maintaining a stern expression, slightly nodded, his expression turning benevolent.

Lawrence Winters squinted his eyes and smiled at her, thinking this sister was much more reliable than the younger one...

In the private box, Kenneth Osborne had the same thoughts as Lawrence Winters.

He even laughed and said to Caitlin Gilbert, ”Miss Gilbert, your sister is really articulate, quite adept socially, and emotionally intelligent.”

Caitlin Gilbert, hearing Kenneth Osborne appreciate Olivia Gilbert, immediately became vigilant and quickly said, ”Mr. Osborne, that’s my sister! She has someone she fancies!”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

Do girls here speak so straightforwardly?

He was just speaking objectively.

Kenneth Osborne chuckled, saying nothing further.

Meanwhile, in the hall, no one continued chanting slogans; everyone’s attention shifted to the soon-to-start preliminary matches.

The emcee took the microphone from Olivia Gilbert and began announcing today’s competition lineup.

”Dear Daoist friends, today’s match is divided into eight stages, with four major rounds in total. Each pair of stages shares one major round.”

”The specific topics are written on the edges of the stages.”

”Participants can choose any two stages for the challenge.”

”Each person has only two opportunities to challenge different stage leaders, until they either completely fail or completely succeed.”

Then, the cloth surround of the eight ”boxing rings” was suddenly pulled open, revealing the words written with white paint along the stage edges.

Along the edges of stages A and B, the words read: The Three Thousand Daoist Canon, All Within My Heart.

Along the edges of stages C and D, the words read: Your Wind, My Water, Advancing and Retreating Together.

Along the edges of stages E and F, the words read: Face Reading and Palm Reading, Seen at a Glance.

Along the edges of stages G and H, the words read: Celestial Path Martial Art, Millennia of Heritage.

Lawrence Winters looked around while whispering to the nearby Daoist Wang, ”How do they compete in these?”

”Is this your first time here, Daoist Lawrence? It’s quite simple.” Daoist Wang, having heard she’s a Zhang Sect inheritor, responded with even more enthusiasm, ”The Three Thousand Daoist Canon, All Within My Heart tests recitation. It’s about who can recite the most.”

”Your Wind, My Water, Advancing and Retreating Together tests the application of Feng Shui techniques.”

”Face Reading and Palm Reading, Seen at a Glance tests the application of Face Reading techniques.”

”Finally, that Celestial Path Martial Art, Millennia of Heritage, heh heh, Daoist Lawrence, you could defend the stage, I’m sure no one can defeat you!”

Lawrence Winters chuckled quietly, with an elegant demeanor, saying, ”I’m a Heavenly Master, not a fighter. Why should I engage in fights?”

She pointed to her brain with her finger, ”I plan to use this to defeat them.”

”High insight from Daoist Lawrence!” Daoist Wang gave her a thumbs up.

After the two surveyed all eight ”boxing rings,” they saw eight men in short Daoist robes ascend the stages.

Lawrence Winters asked curiously, ”Why are all the stage defenders men? Are they contestants too?”

”They are not. The initial stage defenders are chosen experts, but they’re not contestants. Who would want that otherwise?”

Daoist Wang patiently explained the rules to her, while other first-time participants also discussed; after all, the rule explanations they held were somewhat rough.

Some specifics were left unwritten.

As the eight experts took their positions, the main theater doors were opened once more.

Mr. Gilbert, dressed in a snow-white Tang outfit, stood elegantly at the entrance, waving to everyone inside the theater, smiling as he said, ”Friends, I arrived late, and that’s my mistake. I’m giving up one opportunity, and I will only challenge one stage.”

”That’s Mr. Gilbert!”

”It’s the champion from the previous tournament!”

”No, from two tournaments ago!”

”He looks every bit the expert!”

”Sigh, really, for someone like him, wouldn’t he obviously advance to the top eight? It’s just to save some face for others so they don’t lose too badly.”

”Some people refuse graciousness, so you have to give them a harsh lesson...”

The mood in the venue shifted instantly, and even those initially displeased with him turned around.

Lawrence Winters was slightly taken aback, thinking this guy really knows how to manipulate, even counting this in.

But creating such a ”caught everyone’s attention” entrance ceremony, aren’t you afraid of pulling a muscle?

Her lips curved slightly with a hint of mockery, watching Mr. Gilbert make his entrance.
