Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 913: Chapter 447: Drawing Hatred (First Update, Seeking Recommendation Tickets)

The scholar who had dominated the platform for thirty years was actually driven off by Mr. Gilbert within five minutes!

Doesn’t this just prove that Mr. Gilbert is even more formidable in the Celestial Path Book than the scholar?!

Everyone immediately started praising Mr. Gilbert.

”Truly the most outstanding talent in our Celestial Path Sect in the past century!”

”The scholar is very impressive, but now it seems that in the previous two sessions, Mr. Gilbert was just saving face for him!”

”Isn’t it obvious? Mr. Gilbert is both skilled and of good character, unlike some people who can’t wait to use cunning tricks to bring others down so they can rise up!”

This was a jab at Lawrence Winters’ earlier actions.

Lawrence Winters didn’t care.

She was only thinking about what Mr. Gilbert had just done.

If her guess was right, Mr. Gilbert didn’t even know the answer to the question he asked.

Because that Celestial Path Book was destroyed in a war during the Five Dynasties, who knows now the preface of a certain Celestial Path Book from it?

Mr. Gilbert was clearly using some quick wit and cleverness.

Since the rules didn’t require the questioner to give the answer, he only needed to stump his opponent.

And with the scholar’s decades of reading and memorizing, it was hard for Mr. Gilbert to suddenly find a book to stump him.

So in the last few seconds, he improvised and mentioned a book no one had read.

If the scholar had asked him such a question, he would have admitted defeat too.

But the scholar asked honestly without thinking of using quick wits.

So Mr. Gilbert’s victory in this round was, in truth, not won fairly.

But technically, he wasn’t wrong, so he won.

This made Lawrence Winters view Mr. Gilbert with more respect.

After all, a person who can read critically and be adaptable deserves her attention.

Now that Mr. Gilbert had become the leader of Platform A, no one dared to challenge him.

With nothing to do, Mr. Gilbert actually joined everyone in watching the other platforms.

At this moment, on another platform reciting Celestial Path texts, the leader had long been defeated, but the new leader also couldn’t last a few rounds and was knocked off.

Out of the three hundred participants, unexpectedly two hundred chose to challenge Platform B.

Lawrence Winters found it curious and asked the Daoist Wang beside her, ”...Why are they all choosing recitation? Aren’t the feng shui and face reading, along with Celestial Path Martial Art appealing?”

Daoist Wang patiently explained to her, ”...Feng shui and face reading are the main focus in the official competition. Everyone is holding back, fearing to reveal their meticulously prepared skills, so they are choosing the harmless Celestial Path recitation.”

”As for Celestial Path Martial Art, look at us with big bellies; how many have actually practiced real skills...”

As he spoke, he gave Lawrence Winters a scrutinizing look.

He had seen her display of skill earlier and wondered if she would choose the Celestial Path Martial Art platform.

Choosing that platform was the ”toughest” today because it required actual combat.

Lawrence Winters smiled silently, following him to observe the seven or eight platforms one by one.

Before they knew it, it was afternoon.

At noon, everyone even gathered together for a boxed meal.

The morning scores were out; the top eight Daoists were high-spirited, all gathering around Mr. Gilbert.

This was because Mr. Gilbert was undoubtedly ranked first.

Among the more than three hundred people, only over twenty had not yet competed, so they had no scores and were not on the list.

Lawrence Winters and Daoist Wang were among them.

Several Daoists who were familiar with Daoist Wang came over, joking, ”Daoist Wang, why aren’t you competing? Your feng shui and face reading are quite good!”

Daoist Wang was also well-prepared, smiling as he said, ”Isn’t there still the afternoon? I’ll wait till I’m full and well-rested, then go shine!”

Everyone laughed together.

In the private box on the second floor, everyone was also having lunch.

Since during the preliminary rounds leaving the theater meant not getting back in, those who wanted to see the results had their meals delivered.

Kenneth Osborne watched all morning, feeling quite bored.

The competitions were all by the book, with nothing mystical, which made them appear dull.

If it weren’t for Lawrence Winters not having joined in yet, he would have wanted to leave already.

Olivia Gilbert and Caitlin Gilbert took the opportunity during lunch to specifically go find Mr. Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert, being a contestant, couldn’t go to the private box, so he had to eat boxed meals with everyone in the hall.

He wasn’t used to this coarse meal and didn’t touch it.

It wasn’t until his two daughters personally brought him food that he took a few bites.

Olivia Gilbert said with concern, ”Dad, eat more. There’s still the whole afternoon.”

”Dad will definitely be first in the main competition. Sis, don’t worry,” Caitlin Gilbert laughed, but seeing Lawrence Winters eating not far away, she still rolled her eyes at her back.

Kenneth Osborne couldn’t eat alone in the box, but seeing the food here was a bit better than what the contestants were eating in the hall, he packed his portion and went downstairs to find Lawrence Winters.

It was lunchtime, and while contestants couldn’t go up to the second floor, the audience could come down to the hall.

Richard Stetford, Evan Stetford, Quentin Parker, and the ten judges had already gone to a special box on the second floor for a grand meal.

Kenneth Osborne held his lunch box as he came downstairs, walked to Lawrence Winters’ side, silently handed his lunch box over, and said, ”It’s untouched. Don’t eat that.”

Lawrence Winters felt a stir in her heart and slowly lifted her head, seeing Kenneth Osborne standing tall, with his eyes full of emotion.

She wanted to refuse, but Kenneth Osborne knew her well, opened his lunch box, revealing the clear craved lion’s head with crab meat, the light yellow chicken soup with shredded tofu, and a few well-sliced marinated pig head slices.

Even the rice looked whiter and stickier than hers.

Lawrence Winters almost drooled.

She looked at her own lunch box with its dark stir-fried chili and the spinach with eggs that hadn’t been blanched and felt too astringent to eat, suddenly losing her appetite.

Kenneth Osborne’s lips curled into a slight smile, he effortlessly took away her lunch box, set his large one in front of her, and put chopsticks in her hand, saying, ”...If you don’t eat, do you want me to feed you?”

”No way!” Lawrence Winters, without resistance, picked up the chopsticks and first grabbed a crab meat lion’s head.

The dish was so delicious that she nearly cried.

This crab meat lion’s head was made entirely of crab meat!

When Caitlin Gilbert glanced over at Lawrence Winters again, they found Kenneth Osborne sitting beside her, even giving her his lunch!

Kenneth Osborne’s lunch was made especially by the chefs of their Gilbert Family!

It wasn’t ordered from a restaurant!

This was a collision of both old and new grudges.

Caitlin Gilbert instantly understood why the ancients said that the feuding over a father’s death or the jealousy over a lover’s heart couldn’t coexist peacefully in this world!

Although her father wasn’t killed and she didn’t have a wife to be taken away, Lawrence Winters had humiliated her father first and then entwined with her admirer. No matter how one looked at it, she couldn’t let it go!
