Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 921: Chapter 450: This Is My Talent

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

How was she supposed to know how she managed to pull it off?

She’d just copied the other guy’s breathing rhythm, tried a few times until she found the beat, and then it just came out naturally.

But even if she did know what was going on, she had zero intention of telling these foreign scientists.

She had to leave all the causes and effects to her own master, Ian Lothrop.

Like how she suddenly sensed the relationship between ”qi” and ”Inner Strength”...

Right now Lawrence just blinked those ink-dark eyes and said, feigning a bit of cluelessness, ”...I have no idea... I just jumped up, and when I wanted to kick, I kicked. I wasn’t paying attention to whether it was parallel to the floor. Oh right, how did you know it was parallel to the floor? Did you measure it with a ruler?”

How could a scientist like Mr. Costa possibly be a match for Lawrence’s topic-shifting?

He was immediately led astray by her, and started gesturing as he explained how to use eyesight and hand signs to estimate various distances and angles.

Once he got going and was talking nonstop, all Lawrence had to do was throw in an occasional ”oh” and ”ah” to sound impressed.

After Mr. Costa finished, seeing Lawrence’s face full of worshipful awe, he didn’t continue questioning her and instead smiled, saying, ”Sometimes people know that something works without knowing why. Your Chinese kung fu is the same—no one can explain it, most of it’s just special effects anyway.”

He even shook his head, wearing an arrogant expression that said, ”so that’s all it is.”

Lawrence was pretty ticked off, but for Evan Stetford’s sake she didn’t snap back at him. Instead, she turned to look at the second person to ask her a question, Mr. Marcus Zimmerman.

Mr. Zimmerman was a Chinese-American doctor. His angle of observation was mostly the same as the others, but he asked curiously, ”...Miss Winters, just now it looked like you were copying the ways that champion was attacking. Were you really learning and using it on the spot?”

”...Yeah. I just watched how he fought, and I fought the same way. My ability to copy things has always been really strong; it’s my natural talent.” Lawrence said a bit more to a fellow Chinese, but that was it—she definitely wasn’t going into the kind of detail she would with Ian Lothrop.

”Oh, so it’s mimicry. But being able to mimic that well in such a short time is really impressive. You’re amazing, keep it up!” Mr. Zimmerman smiled and gave her a thumbs-up.

Lawrence gave him a shy little smile, looking like a truly harmless little bunny that had accidentally wandered into a primeval forest.

Evan Stetford’s staff seized on this angle, capturing a shot of Lawrence’s bashful, smiling profile together with Mr. Zimmerman’s side view as he gave her a thumbs-up, planning to use it for a promotional poster.

They’d only exchanged a few sentences, but in the eyes of the entire theater—both audience and competitors—everyone had already mentally filled in an entire drama about ”the back wave pushing the front wave.”

As the ”front wave,” Mr. Gilbert was genuinely pissed, but he still had to act like nothing was wrong. It was suffocatingly frustrating.

Olivia Gilbert glanced worriedly at her father, then at the circular high platform, and whispered, ”Dad, you’ve got to relax. Being too fixated on winning and losing will affect your performance...”

Caitlin Gilbert was just straight-up furious, glaring at Lawrence on the high platform, practically itching to yank her down.

In the Sheldon Family’s private box at that moment, a flicker at the corner of Ruby Sheldon’s eye caught Kenneth Osborne’s smiling face, and even her father, Aiden Sheldon, the one who doted on her most, was smiling.

She couldn’t say why, but out of nowhere she started feeling panicky.

Once she panicked, she felt uncomfortable all over.

As the top eight all stepped onto the circular high platform, Evan Stetford began awarding sashes and prize money to the top eight.

This time in the lineup, Lawrence was standing in first place, with Mr. Gilbert right beside her.

Just as Evan Stetford picked up a sash to place it on Lawrence, Ruby Sheldon let out a sharp scream, her lips suddenly turning purple, her eyes rolling upward, and she quickly passed out.

Aiden Sheldon snapped back to attention at once, hurriedly took Ruby’s emergency medication from his pocket, rushed over and pinched her nose. When she opened her mouth, he tossed an emergency pill in.

Autumn Stetford also screamed and kept shouting, ”An ambulance! Ambulance! Call an ambulance, now!”

Ruby’s scream had already given everyone a fright, and then hearing someone yell about calling an ambulance, they all knew something serious had happened.

Richard Stetford realized the sound was coming from the Stetford Family’s private box, where Aiden and his wife, as well as Ruby and the others, were seated.

He shot to his feet and said anxiously, ”...Was that Betty’s voice? What’s wrong with her?”

Evan Stetford also stopped what he was doing and looked toward the second-floor box area.

The circular high platform they stood on was about half a story high, so their position was only slightly lower than the second-floor boxes.
