Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 897: Chapter 442: The Patriarch Grants Me a Living (Second Update)

As for where he used to live, that’s Evan Stetford’s skill. He found Quentin Parker’s former residences here and in South America through the Stetford Family’s connections.

Then he called each location and actually found a trace of him!

Lawrence Winters’ divination had never been so accurate.

She didn’t know why, and temporarily credited it to her ”innate talent,” thinking it was a gift from The Three Pure Ones, destined to be her calling.

However, she didn’t expect Quentin Parker to refuse outright.

Thus, she quickly changed her approach and said, ”Mr. Parker, although your fees are high, I believe they’re worth every penny. But more importantly, would you like to hear the case?”

”No, not interested.” Quentin Parker hadn’t been involved in law for several years. Although he used to specialize in corporate law, it mostly didn’t require him to appear in court, just drafting legal documents and memoranda.

Lawrence Winters leaned forward anxiously and said, ”Mr. Parker, I’ve asked many people and they all praised you, saying you’re the best at handling such cross-border copyright lawsuits!”

Quentin Parker glanced at her, ”Copyright? Cross-border copyright lawsuit? There’s no need to pursue this. If your friend is the defendant, tell him not to come to this country again. If he’s the plaintiff, tell him to save his efforts. Even if he wins, it’s tough to enforce.”

Lawrence Winters felt a bucket of cold water poured over her, and murmured, ”How can this be? Aren’t you even going to listen?! If my friend loses, he’ll face a monstrous compensation! Foreign companies have always maliciously accused our country’s companies!”

Quentin Parker ate two mini muffins and felt better.

Once full, his mood improved.

Seeing Lawrence Winters looking as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, he found it amusing and replied indifferently, ”If the other party is asking for a monstrous compensation, then your friend surely has money.”

Lawrence Winters nodded repeatedly, ”Yes, yes! They’re demanding compensation in the billions!”

Quentin Parker: ”...”

He chuckled, his charming eyes glimmering, ”Have I been away too long, or are they too audacious? What kind of cross-border copyright is worth billions?”

Lawrence Winters, sensing there was a chance, immediately placed the materials she prepared in front of Quentin Parker and succinctly explained the situation.

Quentin Parker was curious as well, ”...So a foreign company claims your friend’s company, AI Vision Promise, plagiarized their AI code program? And it’s about a copyright license from over twenty years ago?”

Lawrence Winters responded mournfully, nodding, and said with a frown, ”I don’t understand much of it either. I personally saw my friend writing that AI program, right next to me. I even helped him at the time!”

Quentin Parker found the allegedly ”plagiarized” code, scanned it quickly, and suddenly paused in shock.

Lawrence Winters noticed and asked curiously, ”...Mr. Parker, what is it? Did you see something?”

Quentin Parker glanced at her again, asking in a cool tone, ”This is your friend’s AI program? All of it?”

”Of course, my friend would never plagiarize. Besides, if not for the lawsuit, he wouldn’t even know about this thing.” Lawrence Winters pointed at the other party’s AI program segment, ”This particular part is especially similar, and I’m puzzled, too. But I don’t know, maybe they just happened to think alike?”

Quentin Parker looked at the opponent’s materials and said, ”If the plaintiff’s material hasn’t been falsified, then indeed your friend’s company is infringing. Look here, the code signature representing the original author is included...”

Lawrence Winters widened her eyes, looking repeatedly but still not understanding, ”....Where’s the signature? I don’t see it.”

”It’s this line, a key that needs decryption to reveal the original author’s name. However, this key line is immutable. If forcibly decrypted, this segment of AI deep learning source code would be damaged, rendering the entire program unusable.”

”And your AI Vision Promise’s special effects program also contains this key code representing the author’s name. So the accusation of using their licensed software without permission stands.”

Quentin Parker explained effortlessly, while Lawrence Winters listened with a furrowed brow.

”...Mr. Parker, you understand computer programming, too?”

”A bit, I’ve indeed dealt with many copyright lawsuits, but not much in computer software. And even if it stands, their compensation claim is too high.” Quentin Parker shook his head, ”They’re banking on you being a foreign company. In protecting domestic interests, they always go to extremes. Bringing down a foreign company is just an old tactic.”
