Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 880: Chapter 436: Unable to Escape (Second Update)

She was the one who didn’t want him first.

His male pride wouldn’t let him do something as low as begging; he couldn’t be as shameless as that simp Edward Foster.

Just as he stared tensely at his phone, that taut string in his mind about to snap, Lawrence Winters finally replied to him.

It was just three exclamation marks: !!!

He let out a long breath; his whole body relaxed, and there was even a faint sheen of sweat on his back.

It was a kind of joy like surviving a disaster; a smile tugged at his lips before he knew it. He was about to reply when he suddenly saw a new friend request on WeChat: I’m Caitlin Gilbert, the one who met Mr. Osborne on the plane. Hope we can add each other.

Kenneth Osborne ignored it and dismissed the friend request.

...

Right now, Lawrence Winters was at Evan Stetford’s place, watching recordings of the past Celestial Path Sect World Cup competitions where the top champion was crowned.

The first round of the competition was in two days.

Since every round was an elimination match, and she had gotten an entry slot through Evan Stetford, if she couldn’t even make it past the first round, it would be laughable enough to make everyone’s teeth fall out.

Lawrence’s attitude toward fame was actually very much in line with the Celestial Path Sect—more hands-off than even ”Buddhist-style” detachment.

But her attitude toward money was neither Celestial Path Sect nor Buddhist; it was aggressively ambitious.

Ever since she learned how much prize money the top champion could get, she could no longer ”go with the flow.”

When she suddenly saw Kenneth Osborne’s WeChat, her gaze flickered, but her heart was as calm as still water, without the slightest ripple; she didn’t even feel like replying.

So she pretended she hadn’t seen Kenneth’s first message, all the way until the third.

From the look of Kenneth’s message, did he know about that previous ”hiring a killer to murder” incident?

How did he find out?

Did a lot of people know?

Lawrence frowned slightly and instinctively opened her phone browser to casually search.

Sure enough, the newspapers over in Chinatown had reports on it, though they didn’t mention her name—just some sensationalist headlines like ”Cold-Blooded Female Magician from Home” and ”Overseas Dragon or Femme Fatale?”

There were also a few blurry side-profile photos of her telling fortunes for people.

That’s it?

And he could still guess it was her?

Lawrence tugged at the corner of her mouth and replied with three exclamation marks: !!!

Kenneth Osborne’s WeChat messages came in again immediately: Are you free right now? I can video call you.

He sent a video request.

Lawrence tapped ”Decline” and replied: I’m fine, just a bit busy. We’ll talk later. Go mind your own business.

She never once thought Kenneth had come to New York specifically for her. He definitely had other things to do and just happened to swing by on the way—for example, that lawsuit of his, which had been filed against him abroad.

Seeing this indifferent tone, Kenneth’s heart felt like it was being cut by a knife.

He remembered what Spring Spencer had said—that Lawrence had gone to the Stetford Family estate and was with Evan Stetford...

Was she really at Evan’s place?

It had only been a week since the divorce, and she was already with Evan Stetford?!

Or had this been premeditated for a long time?

Kenneth’s mind churned like a stormy sea as he mentally crowned himself with several green hats.

Pain mixed with humiliation, regret laced with unwillingness.

There was a loud boom in his head, and that dike called rationality was washed away by the fire of jealousy. He lost control and kept typing: You don’t want to see me because you’re afraid I’ll get in the way of you chasing your new lover? Don’t worry, I won’t. I’ll just watch and see when you get divorced again!

After sending it, he felt it was a bit degrading and quickly withdrew the message.

But it was already too late.

Lawrence had seen that WeChat and instantly flew into a rage. She didn’t even have time to type and directly sent a voice message: ”Kenneth Osborne, what the hell is wrong with you?!”

”Who I go after is none of your damn business?!”

”We’re already divorced! Divorced, do you understand?!”

Then she casually blocked Kenneth on WeChat as well.

Hearing her voice again, Kenneth felt like an arrow had pierced his chest.

He remembered the year she took the college entrance exam, before the scores came out, how she would act pitiful in front of him every day, tugging on his sleeve with that aggrieved look and constantly saying, ”Kenneth, what if I can’t get into your university? What if I don’t get into any university at all?”

He had comforted her countless times: You won’t, you’ll pass. If you don’t, I’ll transfer to your school.

We’ll definitely be together.

Back then, he and she hadn’t yet crossed that threshold called ”friendship,” but without realizing it, love had already sunk deep roots.

How could a love cultivated over more than ten years of time and youth be so easily uprooted?

Kenneth didn’t know what Lawrence was thinking, but for him, it was just too hard to forget.

Getting married or divorced was actually very simple—it was just a matter of picking up a certificate and signing a name.

But that didn’t mean love would instantly appear or disappear.

He realized he still loved her, loved her so deeply he couldn’t pull himself out.
