Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 855: Chapter 428: Long Time No See (Second Update)

He regained his composure and said to Secretary Liu, ”Tell me, when was the last time someone fired a gun in Chinatown?”

Secretary Liu immediately replied, ”Fifty years ago.”

Evan Stetford chuckled, ”Hmm, impressive. Is this meant to commemorate the firing day fifty years ago?”

Secretary Liu hadn’t thought of that, and he replied sheepishly, ”Are you blaming the Grant Branch, Evan? But the one who hired the hitman was that Female Wizard from the mainland.”

”Does the Grant Branch take me for a fool?” Evan Stetford sneered. ”How many years have they been operating here? Would they be challenged by a rootless Female Wizard from the mainland? Hiring a hitman, does she have a death wish?”

”...But the gunman testified,” Secretary Liu murmured, ”We have to rely on evidence for our actions.”

Evan Stetford shook his finger casually, ”No, judges rely on evidence for their actions, we don’t. Have these people forgotten, our Stetford Family never persuades with virtue, and certainly doesn’t rely on evidence.”

Secretary Liu was dumbstruck, ”...But when your sister was here, she always relied on evidence... Wouldn’t saying this make everyone uncomfortable?”

”They should adapt to me, not me to them,” Evan glanced at him, ”If Secretary Liu trusts my sister more, you can go be her personal secretary. She has plenty of idle people over there, one more or less makes no difference.”

Secretary Liu’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly responded awkwardly, ”Evan, you’re joking. I’m your personal secretary, why would I trust your sister more? But you don’t know, Evan, all these years, the Stetford Family has been operating this way. Your sister has established the reputation of the Stetford Family well. Although we’re not judges, we have evidence for our actions.”

”It’s fair to say, the Stetford Family’s standing among the people has been mostly due to my sister’s contributions.”

Evan Stetford wasn’t completely closed to advice.

But he had his own way of doing things.

He calmly said, ”I’ve made my point—relying on evidence is a courtesy, not relying on it is wisdom. If they’ve forgotten how our Stetford Family established itself in Chinatown, I don’t mind helping them remember.”

Secretary Liu looked at Evan’s firm stance and quietly shrank back.

He glanced at the sky outside the car window, thinking that indeed, the sky over the Stetford Family was about to change...

Evan Stetford didn’t say another word, and rode silently towards Stetford Tower.

It was the tallest building in Chinatown, once ranked among the top five skyscrapers nationwide.

Of course, now it’s in the top three.

No skyscrapers have been built in this country in the past fifty years.

And Chinatown, more like a historic site encased in a time capsule, awaiting visitors from the mainland.

His car sped on the road, quickly followed by four Hummer SUVs, surrounding his car to protect it.

With such grandeur, the fleet of five cars slowly stopped in front of Stetford Tower.

The Hummer doors opened, and many security personnel dressed in black jumped out.

They wore sunglasses, guns tucked under their suits, and strategically took key positions at the entrance of Stetford Tower.

Many of these men were Caucasian and Black, not all were Chinese.

They were all personally selected by Evan Stetford as his bodyguards.

Upon his return, the first thing he did was to assemble his security team.

He didn’t take a single person given by Richard Stetford or Autumn Stetford.

In doing this, Richard was exceedingly pleased.

To be the Family Head, the first priority is securing your own safety.

If you can’t ensure your own safety, how can you safeguard the vast overseas interests of the Stetford Family? Or the safety of the entire Chinatown?

A tall Black man holding a black umbrella stood in front of Evan’s car.

Evan Stetford got out of the car, and immediately the man shielded his head with the umbrella.

This umbrella was custom-made, with exceptional ballistic protection.

Several security personnel quickly surrounded Evan, even shoving Secretary Liu aside after he got out.

Evan Stetford wore a faint smile, walking confidently towards his family’s tower.

Arriving at the headquarters of Stetford Holdings, Evan sat behind a desk calmly and said, ”Bring them in.”

Soon, a staff member of Stetford Holdings escorted a fierce-looking Asian man inside.

Evan Stetford stared at him without speaking.

Secretary Liu, standing beside him, arrogantly said, ”Speak, what happened? Guns are not allowed in Chinatown, have you forgotten?”
