Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 888: Chapter 439: Someone Is Coming (First Update, Requesting Monthly Tickets)

”At the time, it was unclear, and a few people who shouldn’t have known found out. It took some effort to get them under control and then arrange the welcoming staff.”

Richard Stetford didn’t take it seriously at first and said with a chuckle, ”Who is it? Even if it’s the president, there’s no need to be so on edge, right? — You even skipped your meal, look at you!”

Evan Stetford raised an eyebrow, ”Dad, after I tell you who it is, if you can still be this calm, I’d salute you as a true man!”

”Ha, go ahead.” Richard Stetford remained calm, biting a cigar pipe and taking a puff.

Evan didn’t even speak, just dipped his hand in mineral water and wrote a name on the tablecloth of the long table, then quickly drenched the entire tablecloth with mineral water.

The name was submerged in a patch of water stains.

When Richard Stetford saw the name, his eyes widened immediately, forgetting to bite his pipe, which fell from his mouth and hit the blue-stone slab of the balcony, scattering sparks and burning several small black holes in the white tablecloth.

”... What’s going on?! Is he... is he really back?”

Richard Stetford was so excited that he started to stutter.

Evan nodded slightly, ”You know he always acted high and mighty, used to hide out in the university, then sold off all his assets saying he wanted to retire. No one has known his whereabouts all these years, not even in South America where things have been chaotic.”

He was the one newly in charge, initially indifferent to the name, but soon recalled who it was, immediately pursued the matter with an iron hand, and locked up all those who might leak information.

”It’s just one day, tomorrow once he makes his official appearance, there will be no need for secrecy.”

Evan drank some soup, finally feeling alive again.

In preparation for this person’s security and for the greatest media effect, he really went all out this time.

Richard Stetford couldn’t sit still, got up from his seat, and excitedly paced around the balcony, murmuring, ”Why would he choose to make his appearance here? What’s his purpose in resurfacing? His assets...”

Evan smiled slightly, ”Those assets that he transferred at low prices have changed hands several times over the years, but the successors haven’t been very lucky until they were taken over by the Grant Branch.”

Richard frowned, ”We, the Stetford Family, also acquired a part.”

”I know, but the price we offered was fair.” Evan shrugged, ”You have no idea at what bargain the Grant Branch acquired those assets. I think, by choosing to appear at our championship event, he’s trying to show something to the Grant Branch.”

Over the years, Richard hadn’t been much involved in affairs, burdened with managing the Stetford family’s entire business. Before Evan returned home, Autumn Stetford had been handling the Grant Branch’s affairs.

Now seeing, how was Autumn managing it?

However, Richard had no intention of holding Autumn accountable.

Even if Autumn completely ignored the Grant Branch, to the Stetford family, it would be a mere trifle.

The Grant Branch meant nothing to them.

But the talented individuals in the Grant Branch were crucial to Evan.

Over the years, Richard had gone through great efforts to ensure Evan grew up safely.

It was a vow he made at the deathbed of Evan’s mother, Lady Lan.

”This is a good opportunity to test you,” Richard said after pacing a few circles, finally calming down and sitting down in front of him, ”Firstly, without offending that master, let the Grant Branch understand the seriousness of things, and keep their behavior in check.”

”Secondly, give this master some face too, don’t leave the Grant Branch completely out in the cold, after all, we can’t entirely break apart with the Grant Branch.”

Evan didn’t care, starting to eat while saying, ”What’s stopping us from breaking apart? The Grant Branch is the one overstepping, we...”

Before he could finish, he caught sight of a maid approaching from a distance, immediately halted the topic, and continued eating in silence.

Several minutes later, the maid arrived at the steps below the terrace, looked up, and said to them, ”Sir, Young Master, Mr. Zhuge has brought Miss Zhuge and the second Miss Zhuge, saying they’re here to finalize tomorrow’s arrangements.”

Richard nodded, ”Let them in.”

Once the maid left, he asked Evan, ”... Did you leak anything just now? Could Zhuge know?”

”No, there’s no way he knows. Everyone who knows today is my confidant, and those who aren’t have already been detained.”

Evan quickly finished his meal, requested some tea to rinse his mouth, then returned with Richard to the study-cum-small conference room in the main house.
