Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 895: Chapter 441: A Chance Encounter (First Update)

”Later, when I was talking to Evan about the Supreme Judge, I said I’d cast another hexagram.”

”The moment I saw that hexagram, I knew it was pointing straight at this person. I wasn’t entirely sure at first, so I asked Evan carefully if he’d be suitable. Evan was over the moon and said that if we could invite this person to be the Supreme Judge, it would be a huge honor for the Stetford Family. That’s when I realized that besides law, he’s this formidable in other fields too.”

Richard listened, sighing again and again. ”If we really pull it off this time, Great Heavenly Master Winters will deserve most of the credit!”

Evan said, ”I also told her about the result the Grant Branch people calculated before.”

Lawrence raised an eyebrow and smiled. ”I don’t know which hexagram they used, but this man’s life force has never been cut off. Where on earth did they see that he was already dead?”

”We don’t know about that. If it’s convenient, you can talk it over with Mr. Zhuge.” Richard hinted tactfully.

”Of course.” Lawrence nodded with a squinty smile. ”Alright, it’s late. I’ve got to sleep and get ready for tomorrow’s preliminaries.”

Then she suddenly remembered something and asked Evan, ”Evan, will that person be there tomorrow? Honestly, I want to see him alone.”

Back when this man was making waves both at home and abroad, Lawrence was still a teenage girl, trailing after Nick Zeller through every tiny backwater county in the country, doing fengshui readings for people.

And he wasn’t like Christopher Mason and Lydia Graham, the type who get massive media exposure.

So she wasn’t familiar with him.

But this time, because of a certain reason, she dug into the data and finally pieced together this many clues.

She hoped she’d get the chance to say a few words to him this time.

Lawrence went back to her room, feeling really worn out.

Divination is seriously brain‑draining; these days she’s been staring at records for over ten hours a day, her neck practically frozen.

Lawrence took a bath in the bathroom, and when she came out to do her skincare, she suddenly heard her phone ring.

She glanced at it and saw that it was a video call from one of her masters—Ian Lothrop.

She hurriedly grabbed the phone and swiped to accept.

”Hello, Professor Lothrop!” Lawrence greeted with a smile.

Ian said with a squinty grin, ”Call me Master. You’re my disciple, not my student.”

Lawrence went with the flow. ”Hello, Master!”

Ian nodded. ”I’ve gone through all the material you sent me last time about the Celestial Path Sect Grand Laureate Competition.”

Lawrence: ”!!!”

”You finished it all?! I still have a quarter left to read!”

Ian chuckled. ”I didn’t read it. My computer did.”

Lawrence: ”...”

Ian shared his computer screen with her. ”This is the analysis my computer generated.”

Lawrence skimmed through it at lightning speed, then burst out laughing. ”...So your computer thinks all these records are nonsense?”

”Exactly, total nonsense. I don’t know if the person who wrote them has an overactive divergent thinking problem or is deliberately muddying the key points. Either way, you can treat this dossier like a cultivation webnovel. It’s not going to give you any real help for the competition.”

Lawrence said, ”That’s what I felt reading it—honestly, it’s fascinating! It totally reads like a novel!”

”Very likely it is a novel.” Ian laughed out loud. ”But thanks for the heads‑up. I’m not going. Doesn’t interest me.”

Lawrence’s expression collapsed in an instant. ”Huh? You’re not interested either? Weren’t you going to use science to study metaphysics?”

”I am studying it.” Ian shut down the computer, utterly justified. ”Studying you is enough. Why waste time on those people? None of them are as good as you.”

Hearing that, Lawrence finally cheered up and even got a little shy. ”Master, if you praise me like that, I’ll get cocky.”

”You should be cocky! You need confidence. You really are better than they are. Don’t imitate those people with their fake modesty and literary pretension. For those of us with high IQs, the most painful thing is having to pretend we’re at the same IQ level as all the low‑IQ folks!”

Ian has never bothered to hide his contempt and disdain for ”stupid people.”

Lawrence nodded repeatedly. ”Master’s right! I’ll listen to you!”

”Good girl!” Ian was delighted by how cute she looked. ”By the way, one more thing. I’ve got an old friend visiting from afar. His brain might be a bit out of whack. I want you to go check on him for me. Ask him if he wants to come to the country; if he does, let me know in advance so I can prepare.”

Lawrence could only nod. ”Okay okay! Send me the address, I’ll make sure he’s taken care of perfectly!”

Ian sent her the man’s address, name, and a recent photo.

Lawrence took one look and, huh, what a coincidence!

...

The next day was the preliminary round, but it didn’t start until nine in the morning.

At six a.m., Lawrence left the Stetford Family estate and drove alone to the address Ian gave her.

It was a luxury high‑rise by Central Park, New York. Without a special keycard, you couldn’t even get through the front door on the first floor.

Lawrence pressed the intercom for the floor where the man lived.

After a short while, a slightly chilly male voice came through the speaker. ”...Who are you looking for?”

Lawrence faced the camera with a smile. ”I’m Lawrence Winters. My master, Professor Ian Lothrop, asked me to come see you.”

The man gave a soft ”Mm” and hit the switch, buzzing her into the lobby on the first floor.

Lawrence took the elevator upstairs.

Standing in front of the man’s door, she waited a few minutes before he finally opened it.

The door swung open to reveal a tall man in a white, fine‑striped mandarin‑collar shirt and sharply pressed black suit pants, standing right in front of her.

His features were refined, his expression indifferent, with that kind of aloofness that keeps people a thousand miles away. But when he looked at someone, his pair of shimmering peach‑blossom eyes seemed ready to suck their soul right out.
