Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1640: Chapter 1641: A Token of My Sincerity

Gong Juechen remained silent.

Su Chengyu continued, ”Chenglin, I’m sorry.”

Gong Juechen still did not speak.

Su Chengyu, unfazed, extended a small exquisitely carved red sandalwood box towards Gong Juechen, ”This is a small token of my regard. I hope you’ll accept it for my father and Brother Yi’s sake.”

Gong Juechen was lounging there lazily, his peach blossom eyes glancing at the small box for a while before he finally reached out and took it.

”Then, I’m leaving.” Without lingering, Su Chengyu handed the small box to Gong Juechen, patted him on the shoulder like a brother, and turned to leave.

In the past, it was always Gong Juechen who ignored him and walked away.

This time, he finally turned and left himself.

And this time, he felt particularly relieved both physically and mentally. Because he had already let go of everything. As for the future, he’d leave it to fate.

Watching Su Chengyu disappear from sight, Gong Juechen lowered his eyes and looked at the red sandalwood box in his hand.

After a while, he straightened up, opened the small box, and inside, a golden plate lay. The plate clearly had a large ”免” character on it.

Death Exemption Token...

Gong Juechen was instantly filled with mixed emotions.

Under the Death Exemption Token was a note. Gong Juechen took it out, opened it, and saw it read, ”I won’t kill you, but I can’t guarantee my descendants won’t. Here’s a Death Exemption Token for you; even if I die, no matter what crime you commit, it will still save your life.”

Gong Juechen’s throat choked up instantly. After a while, he burst out laughing, ”Why does everyone think I’ll commit a crime? Can’t they hope for my well-being...”

Ye Zhi came over with the child and heard Gong Juechen’s words. She didn’t ask anything, but lowered her head to see the note in his hand. After seeing what was written, she was momentarily stunned, then said, ”At least he has some conscience.”

Gong Juechen took out a fire starter from his chest, lit it, and burnt the note while casually saying, ”Whether he has conscience or not has nothing to do with us.”

Ye Zhi did not argue with him, but instead asked, ”What about this Death Exemption Token?”

”I’ve accepted it, so it’s mine. What’s mine is yours, so naturally, you’ll keep it.” With that, Gong Juechen cheekily handed the Death Exemption Token to Ye Zhi.

Ye Zhi refused to take it, ”You better keep it. I still don’t fully trust you with your personality... sigh...” She let out a heavy sigh, ”I’ll feel more at ease with you holding onto it.”

”I’m more skilled than you, you’d better keep it.”

”I already said your personality is worrisome! You keep it!” Ye Zhi left no room for negotiation.

Not wanting to anger Ye Zhi, Gong Juechen had no choice but to keep the Death Exemption Token himself. Although his position as Building Master was more effective than the token, having an extra Death Exemption Token couldn’t hurt.

...

After leaving Gong Juechen, Su Chengyu went to the Xiyun mansion to inform An Jing and Xiao Changyi that he had let go of his concerns and no longer harbored distrust towards Gong Juechen. He wanted An Jing and Xiao Changyi to stop worrying about him and Gong Juechen.

Su Chengyu’s actions delighted An Jing greatly.

Xiao Changyi didn’t show much on the surface but personally escorted Su Chengyu back to the palace, which indicated that he was also very pleased.

After all, Gong Juechen was the son of Su Chengyu’s mother’s enemy. The fact that the two of them could be at peace was already the best outcome for both Gong Juechen and Su Chengyu.

Both An Jing and Xiao Changyi thought so.
