Chapter 1619: Chapter 1620: His Responsibility

Just now, when the four children stepped over An Jing, Xiao Changyi was really scared to death. He was afraid that the children might accidentally not lift their feet high enough, lose their balance, and step on his wife’s big belly.

If that happened...

Xiao Changyi couldn’t even bear to imagine the consequences.

The four children were so sternly scolded that they didn’t dare say a word, just shrinking there like four little pitiful ones.

An Jing couldn’t bear to see the children being reprimanded, so she gently spoke up for them: ”They were afraid you’d hit them, that’s why they panicked and climbed onto the bed. My belly wasn’t stepped on, and I’m fine. Let’s just let it go today, but it won’t happen again, okay?”

Although Xiao Changyi always seemed expressionless, he rarely got angry at the children. Seeing the four little pitiful faces, he didn’t want to scold them anymore, but he still felt a lingering fear.

Calming himself down and once his heart was settled, Xiao Changyi sternly asked the four children, ”Will you dare to do such reckless things in the future?”

”No, we won’t dare...” the four children mumbled.

Xiao Changyi first sighed lightly, then sat on the bed, pulling the four kids into his arms.

The four children not only did not resist but snuggled even deeper into Xiao Changyi’s embrace, as if his arms were especially safe.

However, the four children said nothing.

Seeing the children like this, Xiao Changyi felt particularly comforted, and his voice softened significantly: ”You all saw how big your mother’s belly is, yet you dared to climb onto the bed and step over her. What if you had stepped on your mother’s belly? Do you want something to happen to your mother or to the three brothers and sisters in her belly?”

The four children immediately shook their heads in Xiao Changyi’s arms, ”No, we don’t.”

Hearing the children’s voices choke up, with some even clinging to his shoulder and wrapping their arms around his neck in particular grievance, Xiao Changyi couldn’t bear to scold them either. But he had to speak, as it was his responsibility as their father to educate them.

”Dad doesn’t want you to touch your mother’s belly for your mother’s sake and the three babies in her belly. Your mother’s belly is already so big, and her skin is as thin as paper. Didn’t you fear before that her belly might burst? Dad knows more than you, and naturally worries more too.”

”Moreover, Dad would never want to harm you. Then why do you always not listen to what Dad says?”

Upon hearing this, the four children’s eyes turned even redder, and they pressed closer into Xiao Changyi’s arms without speaking.

Xiao Changyi continued, ”Don’t blame Dad for making a fuss over nothing. If something happened and we tried to prevent it later, it would be too late. Dad just doesn’t want anything to happen to your mother and the three babies in her belly.”

”Dad, we won’t touch Mom’s belly from now on, and we won’t act recklessly. Dad, please don’t be angry...” The four children felt particularly bad from Xiao Changyi’s words, each with a look of having done something wrong.

Seeing that the four children had realized their mistake, Xiao Changyi stopped lecturing them and instead asked lightly and softly, ”Didn’t you just feel your mom’s belly? Did you feel your brothers and sisters moving?”

The children’s mood changed quickly from sad to happy, and upon hearing Xiao Changyi’s relaxed tone, they also became cheerful, nodding and saying they felt it, and it was amazing.

Still holding the four children, Xiao Changyi saw them earnestly and brightly saying it was amazing, and he even chuckled softly, a rare sound.
