Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1605: Chapter 1606: He Cannot Be Ignored

Ye Zhi’s throat suddenly choked up, and her heart twisted painfully, feeling a deep ache for this person holding her hand tightly.

Despite feeling very uncomfortable inside, Ye Zhi kept a smile on her face and softly said to him, ”Hmm, I’ll make it for you when we go home.”

Gong Juechen immediately took an inch and asked, ”Do you want to learn how to cook? I can personally teach you.”

Ye Zhi just gave him a sidelong glance.

But Gong Juechen continued, ”I didn’t know much about cooking in the past, but every time I saw Jingjing happy eating the food Changyi made, I specifically went to learn so I could cook for you. If you learn to cook for me, you should be able to pick it up too.”

”Get lost.” She didn’t humor his quirks. She had no intention of learning to cook. She thought she just being able to make fried rice was fine.

But Gong Juechen wasn’t angry at all and instead grinned cheekily.

Once home, Ye Zhi made egg fried rice for Gong Juechen. Gong Juechen couldn’t let her be alone in the kitchen, especially now that she was pregnant, so he helped by tending the fire at the stove while she stood by the counter and cooked the fried rice.

As for the servants in the kitchen, they all had been sent away by the two of them.

Watching Gong Juechen sitting at the stove helping her with the fire, the firelight casting shadows on his mischievous face, Ye Zhi suddenly felt a bit dazed, thinking it wouldn’t be bad if it were just her and Gong Juechen at home.

So, as she served the egg fried rice for Gong Juechen to eat, Ye Zhi told him, ”Let’s not hire any servants for our family anymore. After all, we don’t have much to do daily, and we can manage this home ourselves.”

Gong Juechen also felt that the servants were somewhat of a hindrance in their home. He didn’t particularly like having outsiders around, so he happily agreed, ”Today is a bit rushed; tomorrow I’ll settle their wages and let them go.”

”Mm.”

That night, Ye Zhi went to take a bath. Gong Juechen wanted to join her, but Ye Zhi wouldn’t let him.

Since he couldn’t join her, Gong Juechen sat at the round table, sipping tea slowly while lost in thought.

Back then, he had advised his two uncles to keep themselves in check, thinking that maybe then, the Han family might have a glimmer of hope; now, those two uncles were staying out of trouble, yet they still met such an end.

Before, Su Haoyu didn’t have evidence, so to avoid being labeled as a tyrant, he kept the eldest uncle in the Imperial Capital, giving him a hollow title of Great General without any real power.

Now that Su Chengyu had concrete evidence, it was no surprise that Su Chengyu wanted to destroy the Five Clans of his maternal family.

Since it was his two uncles’ doing, they naturally had to bear the consequences. At this moment, Gong Juechen felt no sympathy for his two uncles and had no thought of saving them.

Maybe Su Chengyu is just waiting for him to reveal his forces and attempt a rescue.

He had no feelings for his two uncles, and they were reaping what they had sown. He wouldn’t do anything detrimental to himself for them.

He genuinely just wanted to live a good life with his Zhizhi now.

If not for his sister still being here, he would have wanted to take Zhizhi and live in seclusion, just like how his master once took him and his sister to hide in the mountains.

However, Su Chengyu didn’t care about his feelings and dealt such a harsh hand against his maternal family. Who knows, one day, he might target his sister or his Zhizhi out of suspicion...

And he had to be prepared for that.
