Chapter 1602: Chapter 1603: Let Bygones Be Bygones?

Imperial Study Room.

As soon as Xiao Changyi entered the Imperial Study Room, he sensed the oppressive atmosphere within. Without needing any indication from him, the attendants inside, upon seeing him, immediately left the room.

The door of the Imperial Study Room was then respectfully closed from the outside.

For a moment, only Xiao Changyi and Su Chengyu were left inside the Imperial Study Room.

At this moment, Su Chengyu had his back to the door, hands behind him, standing in front of the imperial desk. Because he was standing with his back turned, Xiao Changyi couldn’t see Su Chengyu’s expression, but he could guess that it was likely quite displeased.

Hearing the door close, Su Chengyu did not turn around, only said coolly, ”Brother Yi, take a look at those on the table.”

Xiao Changyi said nothing, merely walked to the imperial desk to look at the items on it.

On the desk, besides the ink pen and memorials, there were some exchanged letters and two account books.

The memorials had already been reviewed and were placed to the side, so Xiao Changyi did not pick them up, instead focusing on the scattered letters and account books on the desk.

Upon seeing that the letters were signed by either Han Xinche or Han Xinrui, Xiao Changyi’s cold eyes narrowed. Having some idea, he said nothing and finished reading the letters and account books.

The letters and account books were proof of Han Xinche and Han Xinrui secretly recruiting troops for rebellion. He and Su Chengyu had always known about their intentions, but they never had evidence.

Without evidence, dealing with Han Xinche and Han Xinrui would lead to dissatisfaction, so Su Haoyu had only kept Han Xinche, the Great General, in the Capital without granting him real power.

Now, they finally had evidence, undeniable evidence...

Finally, Xiao Changyi spoke: ”What do you plan to do?”

Finally, Su Chengyu turned around to face Xiao Changyi, looking at him for a moment before giving a bitter smile, ”Brother Yi, what do you want me to do?”

Xiao Changyi said, ”They’ve behaved themselves recently, just let bygones be bygones.”

”Let bygones be bygones? This is treason, punishable by executing the entire clan according to the law,” Su Chengyu laughed, ”Brother Yi, have you taken his side?”

He, obviously referring to Gong Juechen.

Xiao Changyi replied indifferently, ”I have not.” Pausing, ”I just want to fulfill the old man’s last wishes.”

The old man wished for their brotherhood to be united.

Su Chengyu immediately responded, ”I also want to fulfill Father’s last wishes, I also want brotherhood unity, but can it truly be achieved? Although he saved me, he’s the son of my mother’s killer, I can’t pretend nothing happened and be united with him. And he can’t be united with me either.”

”If you execute the Han family’s Five Clans, unity will be impossible!” Xiao Changyi softened his tone and said calmly, ”I know you can’t be united, I don’t hope for that, I only wish for you both to be well.”

”I also wish for us to be well, but the Han family’s Five Clans must be executed!”

”Even if he has no feelings for the Han family, executing his maternal clan’s Five Clans would make anyone overthink!” Xiao Changyi stressed his words.

”I can’t control his overthinking.” Su Chengyu’s gaze was firm. ”The Han family had treacherous intentions long ago, Father didn’t trust them during his reign, and now that we finally have evidence, even if they behave themselves now, what about in the future? Who can guarantee they won’t harbor ill intentions again? We must follow the law and execute the Five Clans to eliminate future troubles!”

Xiao Changyi immediately sneered, ”If eliminating future troubles is your goal, you might as well kill Gong Juechen too.”
