Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1599: Chapter 1600: Not Caring at All, Impossible

...

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

Li Wuyu, Wang Youbao, Ye Zhi, Gong Juechen, Gong Juese, Liu Feifei, Du Aya, and others came to the Xiyun mansion, all at Ying Anjing’s invitation.

Wang Haomiao and Meng Sibo, two kids, were also brought by their respective parents.

Su Yi Jing, Su Yixing, An Yiqing, and An Yiyun were supposed to go to school on this day, but An Jing made an exception for them, allowing them to stay home and make zongzi joyously with everyone else.

Initially, Li Wuyu and the others didn’t know exactly what zongzi was, only that it was some kind of food, because An Jing said they were invited to eat zongzi.

An Jing had prepared the bamboo leaves, string, glutinous rice, fillings, and so on early in the morning, just waiting for everyone to start wrapping.

The leaves used were reed leaves, and there were many kinds of fillings, including egg yolk, chicken, red dates, salted meat, chestnuts, and so on.

Only An Jing and Ye Zhi knew how to make zongzi, so naturally, they were the ones to teach everyone how to wrap zongzi.

Except for Gong Juechen and Xiao Changyi, others thought that An Jing and Ye Zhi had invented this dish since they knew how to wrap zongzi, and An Jing and Ye Zhi let them believe so. The fact that they were not from here was better kept a secret.

If the news spread, not everyone might accept it. Some might even consider them as monsters, and that would not be good.

Jing Xingqingyun tried wrapping zongzi, but their hands were still too small, and they struggled with it, so in the end, they just stopped learning and went off to play with Wang Haomiao and Meng Sibo.

Li Wuyu wasn’t good at needlework, but she picked up zongzi-wrapping very well. She learned just by watching An Jing wrap one zongzi.

Even though she was pregnant, wrapping zongzi while sitting was not tiring, so Wang Youbao did not stop her. Instead, he sat by Li Wuyu’s side, letting her teach him how to make zongzi.

Gong Juese was initially quite interested in wrapping zongzi, but once she learned, she lost interest and joined the children. Since Gong Juese was pregnant, Meng Lanqing followed her to watch over her and the children.

Du Aya, like Li Wuyu, wasn’t good at needlework, and despite trying all morning, she still couldn’t wrap zongzi. In the end, she decided not to wrap them but helped steam the ones that were already wrapped.

A gentleman should stay away from the kitchen. Qi Gaoda had never entered a kitchen, but he was worried about Du Aya, as she was expecting, so he followed her into the kitchen to help steam the zongzi.

Tobanya learned quickly, teaching Meng Zhuqing, who sat beside her, how to make zongzi without needing Meng Zhuqing to request it.

Aside from her and Liu Feifei, all the other women present were pregnant. However, after crying it out and having a big argument with her husband, she had figured things out and no longer dwelled on it.

But not caring at all is a bit impossible.

Her inability to have children would always be a pain for her, but she resolved to try not to mind it.

Meng Zhuqing saw Tobanya teaching him how to make zongzi joyfully, and although he knew Tobanya would never fully disregard her inability to have children, he was greatly relieved.

His wife had been injured by a horse while saving his mother, leading to her infertility. His heart ached too much for his wife to ever let this fact cause her distress. Henceforth, he would treat her even better, so she wouldn’t have to think about children as much as possible.
