Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1587: Chapter 1588 I Mind

Facing Meng Zhuqing’s anger, Tobanya’s demeanor returned to its usual coolness. After a while, she lowered her eyes, not meeting Meng Zhuqing’s gaze, and whispered, ”I want you to have a child.”

Meng Zhuqing immediately said, ”I don’t want a child, I only want you!”

Tobanya’s heart trembled.

Meng Zhuqing continued, ”We already agreed on these matters before. Consider it my plea to you; can we stop dwelling on this? We’re doing fine as we are. I know you’re feeling bad, but compared to having a child, I truly prefer being with you.”

”You can take a concubine and still be with me. I don’t...” Unable to meet Meng Zhuqing’s gaze, Tobanya bowed her head again, her voice barely audible, ”I don’t mind.”

But Meng Zhuqing still heard her last three words clearly.

Meng Zhuqing was immediately infuriated again, and asked through gritted teeth, ”You truly don’t mind?”

Tobanya remained silent. Although having multiple wives and concubines was normal here, truthfully, she didn’t want Meng Zhuqing to take a concubine at all.

As a woman, who wouldn’t want to be with her husband, just the two of them for life?

Meng Zhuqing knew Tobanya minded, but he still asked, ”If I take a concubine, do you truly not mind?” He wanted her to answer him.

Tobanya pressed her lips tightly, for a long while, then raised her head and met Meng Zhuqing’s gaze again, and honestly replied, ”I mind. I do mind.”

Meng Zhuqing finally smiled, his anger dissipated. He sat back on the bed, held her hand tightly, but his voice was especially gentle, ”When you see others pregnant and you are not, you feel bad, but seeing you like this makes me feel worse. Let’s not dwell on this anymore, shall we? Instead of dwelling on these things, isn’t it better for us to live our days well together?”

After a pause, he added, ”You should understand my feelings. Don’t hurt me anymore, Yao’er.”

Tobanya’s lips trembled slightly, but she still nodded, ”Mhm.”

Yet Meng Zhuqing was still somewhat uneasy, and explicitly demanded, ”Don’t say anything about me taking a concubine anymore.”

”Mhm.”

Meng Zhuqing tenderly kissed Tobanya’s tear-filled eyes, then said, ”In the future, don’t think about having children anymore, we won’t adopt any children either. It’ll just be the two of us, living well together.”

Tobanya was silent for a long time, finally, she nodded, ”Mhm.”

Only then did Meng Zhuqing remember the love knot he bought, ”I bought this on my way back, do you like it?”

The red love knot was small and not expensive, but these were secondary; the important thing was the sentiment behind it.

Every time he went out on business, he would bring her back some little trinket, all of which were enough to prove her place in his heart.

Tobanya looked at the pair of love knots in her hand, feeling warmth in her heart. She then looked at Meng Zhuqing, and with a smile, she nodded slightly towards Meng Zhuqing, ”I like it.”

Her ethereal and extraordinary face, paired with a smile brighter than peach blossoms, made Tobanya appear as if she were not from this world.

Unable to help himself, Meng Zhuqing gazed at her in a daze, and leaned closer to Tobanya. Tobanya was momentarily stunned but then closed her eyes, neither dodging nor hiding, allowing Meng Zhuqing to kiss her lips.

It was a long time before their lips separated.

Suddenly, Meng Zhuqing felt guilty and hurriedly apologized to Tobanya, ”Yao’er, I didn’t mean to be harsh with you just now, please don’t be angry with me.”

Tobanya shook her head, smiled and said, ”It’s my fault, for making you so angry. I won’t do this anymore.”

Only then did Meng Zhuqing feel relieved, smiling at Tobanya again, his eyes filled with boundless tenderness.
