Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1568: Chapter 1569: Are you sure you were ever sincere to me?

Su Chengyu shook his head, ”I’d better go see him myself.”

An Jing paused for a moment, then said, ”Alright.”

That day, after Su Chengyu dealt with the memorials, he left the palace in plain clothes to find Gong Juechen.

The servants didn’t know Su Chengyu was the Emperor, so Su Chengyu said he was Yu Chengsu, an old acquaintance of Gong Juechen.

Then, the servants reported it.

Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi had already been informed by An Jing that their position as deputy general and military doctor had been agreed upon by Su Chengyu, and that Su Chengyu might come to see Gong Juechen. As for when Su Chengyu would come, An Jing didn’t know, and naturally, neither did Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi.

However, thanks to An Jing’s information, Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi were already prepared in their hearts.

At that moment, Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi were in the backyard tending to flowers and plants. They heard the servant reporting that an old acquaintance named Yu Chengsu came looking for Gong Juechen. Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi instantly understood that it must be Su Chengyu.

”I’ll go with you.” Not wanting Gong Juechen to face Su Chengyu alone in the front hall, Ye Zhi wanted to go together.

But Gong Juechen refused and even joked with a smile, ”Zhizhi, don’t cling to me so much, I’ll never get used to it.”

”Who’s clinging to you, shameless!”

Only then did Gong Juechen speak seriously: ”Don’t worry, I’ll be fine, you don’t need to fret.” He paused, ”He wants to talk to me alone, if you go, you’ll just have to come back later.”

Ye Zhi finally did not follow.

Gong Juechen gave Ye Zhi a playful hug before he ran off.

He ran to the front hall.

In the front hall, Su Chengyu was sitting inside, two guards stood on either side of him, and the servants had already served him tea.

As soon as Gong Juechen entered the front hall, he had all the attending servants leave.

Su Chengyu also had the two guards leave.

Gong Juechen lazily sat in the chair opposite Su Chengyu, crossed his legs, lightly brushed his bangs from his forehead, the corners of his mouth held a faint smile, and his peach blossom eyes were full of meaning as he looked at Su Chengyu, ”Why did you send the guards away, aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?”

Without waiting for Su Chengyu to speak, Gong Juechen continued, ”My martial arts are really strong, you know.”

Su Chengyu felt a pang in his heart, ”Why do you have to stab me? I came today to speak some sincere words with you.”

”Sincere words? Ha ha,” Gong Juechen laughed coldly twice, ”You’re always on guard against me, are you sure you’ve ever been sincere with me?”

”Chenglin...”

”Hahahaha...” Gong Juechen suddenly burst into laughter, ”Clearly, Su Chenglin is already dead. He died long ago in that fire, yet you always bring him up... Su Chengyu, what exactly do you want?”

Su Chengyu fell silent.

Seeing Su Chengyu not answering, Gong Juechen did not press further but asked quietly again, ”Su Chengyu, if I hadn’t saved you, would you have killed me?”

A questioning sentence, with a tone of certainty.

But remarkably, Su Chengyu honestly admitted, ”Yes.”

”Heh heh...” Gong Juechen wasn’t angry at all, and even chuckled, ”Your good brother has always said you are merciful, the whole world knows your mercy, you really are merciful, so merciful indeed.”

Su Chengyu ignored the deep sarcasm hidden in Gong Juechen’s chuckles, he just mildly asked, ”Those black-clad men who helped Xiyun trample Chilin... they were your people, weren’t they?”

He is the Emperor, and he has spies everywhere in Xiyun, naturally in the army as well.

A few days ago, his spy in the army reported that he overheard Xiao Changyi questioning Gong Juechen whether those black-clad men were Gong Juechen’s people.
