Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1564: Chapter 1565: Get Lost

Previously, Ye Zhi had received many gifts from Su Chengyu for her numerous battle achievements, and this time, all those gifts became her dowry.

Moreover, An Jing added quite a bit to Ye Zhi’s dowry.

Gong Juechen went even further, giving Ye Zhi a vast amount of dowry, enough for a glorious wedding procession stretching ten miles long.

The palanquin with eight carriers arrived at the door, and Ye Zhi exited from the main gate of the King of Xiyun’s mansion. The crowd watching was so large that it was uncountable. At this moment, Ye Zhi was truly radiant and glorious.

Gong Juechen took Ye Zhi’s hand and helped her into the bridal sedan chair. Only then did Ye Zhi discover that Gong Juechen’s palms were full of sweat.

Ye Zhi was a bit surprised, then a smile lifted beneath her bridal veil.

The bridal sedan was not immediately carried to Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi’s residence but first circled around the Imperial Capital. The ten-mile wedding procession was showcased to everyone before the sedan was carried to the residence.

The residence was decorated in an especially festive manner. Even before the bridal sedan arrived, firecrackers crackled in the distance, continuing incessantly until Ye Zhi was welcomed inside, indicating the spectacular nature of this wedding ceremony.

There were many guests.

But almost all were soldiers whom Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi had met during battles. Even the two marquises, Qi Tengfei and Liu Buli, were present, as was Princess Su Chengyuan. Du Aya, Shi Shi, Qi Gaoda, Qi Weiwu, and others also attended.

Although the Emperor, Su Chengyu, did not attend in person, he sent gifts to congratulate Gong Juechen and Ye Zhi on their marriage.

Since neither Gong Juechen nor Ye Zhi had parents present, they bowed twice towards the heavens and the earth as a gesture of respect to their families.

Before Ye Zhi, the bride, was sent into the bridal chamber, An Jing brought Su Yi Jing and An Yiyun to roll on Ye Zhi and Gong Juechen’s nuptial bed, a custom known as ”bed rolling.”

This is a local custom, said to bring the blessing of sons. Even though An Jing felt this custom favored boys over girls, she still followed it, letting her two children help with the rolling.

They rolled from the foot of the bed to the head, and back again, completing three passes in total.

Seeing their older brother and fourth brother rolling on the bed, An Yiqing and Su Yixing thought it was a lot of fun and joined in gleefully.

This left the onlookers momentarily stunned, then they burst into laughter. Delighted, the officiant added, ”This foretells many sons.”

An Jing had initially feared that adding two more children would break tradition and bring gossip to Ye Zhi, as the custom required only two boys. But seeing no one minded, she was relieved and let An Yiqing and Su Yixing continue rolling.

Once the four children finished rolling, the officiant rewarded them with money gifts. This too was a custom.

The four children accepted the gifts and gave them all to An Jing, earning praise from everyone for their filial and sensible nature.

An Jing rarely felt such pride.

As soon as Jing Xingqingyun handed over the money gifts to An Jing, they ran off. Afraid that the four children would cause mischief and spoil the joyful wedding, especially the mischievous An Yiqing, she intended to chase them, keeping an eye on them to prevent any antics. Yet, just as she took a step, her husband pulled her back.

An Jing immediately understood and stopped chasing, instead choosing to walk, and walk slowly, not fast.

She felt fortunate that her husband was always looking out for her. If she really were pregnant, and a small misstep led to a miscarriage, she would regret it for the rest of her life.

After the celebratory feast, Xiao Changyi took An Jing and the kids home.

Initially, the soldiers attending the wedding wanted to tease the couple in the bridal chamber, but Gong Juechen, being the unyielding drinker that he was, even without consuming any sobering pills, managed to drink them all under the table.
