Chapter 1473: Chapter 1474: Pack of Wolves Appears

Jingye City, east side.

Not only was Qi Weimeng defending, but Meng Lanqing was also there. And where Meng Lanqing was, Gong Juese would also be there.

As soon as the Chilin soldiers appeared in the mountains, everyone went on high alert.

The archers prepared themselves.

The stone throwers were also ready.

With a command from Qi Weimeng, arrows were shot towards the Chilin soldiers in the mountains across the river, and stones were hurled towards them.

Because of the trees blocking the way, the stones were often deflected from their paths. Nevertheless, since there were so many Chilin soldiers, a whole 300,000 of them, and the mountains had few paths, making it difficult for these soldiers to move, many still got crushed to death.

Some Chilin soldiers carried long planks to be placed across the river as bridges.

Once the planks were in place, Chilin soldiers tried to cross over the river on them, but Xiyun soldiers immediately rushed over to flip the planks, causing the Chilin soldiers to fall into the river.

Some Chilin soldiers could swim and were fine, but those who couldn’t were drowned.

Chilin also had archers, and even though Qi Weimeng’s side erected shields, many still got injured or killed.

Because of the trees in the mountains and the limitations of the catapults’ range, their effectiveness here was not as significant as it was on the city walls of the northern gate. The stones were nearly exhausted, yet the number of people killed was less than a fifth of those killed on Xiao Changyi’s side.

Many Chilin soldiers forded the river and rushed over.

”Hiss—” Suddenly, Meng Lanqing, who was in battle, was shot in the chest by an archer.

”Husband!” Gong Juese roared with anger, supporting Meng Lanqing to the back to be looked at by the military doctor, before charging at the archer with red-rimmed eyes.

The archer was inside the mountain.

Gong Juese killed everything in her way, stepping on the planks to cross the river, fighting her way to the archer’s position. The archer couldn’t hit Gong Juese, nor could any of the other archers; no one could harm her. As for the archer trying to run, it was too late, as he was killed by Gong Juese with a single sword strike.

After killing the archer, Gong Juese casually began slaughtering other surrounding Chilin soldiers.

She was completely a one-woman army.

With every sword strike, she brought a renewed storm of blood.

And the scent of blood in the air was so strong that it even drew in many wild beasts, like a pack of vicious wolves.

There were about twenty or thirty of them, all with green-glowing eyes.

”Se Se, come back quickly!” Upon seeing the wolf pack, Meng Lanqing urgently called out to Gong Juese.

Gong Juese immediately stopped fighting and ran back across the planks. As she reached the bank, she flipped the planks to prevent the wolves from crossing into Jingye City.

The Chilin soldiers knew that ferocious beasts roamed these mountains, and they were very cautious as they came. Now they had really encountered them, and such a large pack of wolves at that; the Chilin soldiers still in the mountains fled in panic.

If you stayed still, perhaps the wolves would just devour the bloodied corpses, but if you moved, the wolves, led by the alpha, would launch a ferocious attack on the Chilin soldiers, filling the mountains with their cries of despair, making one’s skin crawl.

When Xiao Changyi and his group arrived, they saw the gruesome scene of the wolf pack attacking the Chilin soldiers in the mountains.

Some Chilin soldiers had also crossed the river, but Xiao Changyi did not take action, letting Meng Zhuqing and their allies handle them.

About 20,000 Chilin soldiers managed to cross the river, but unfortunately, with 200,000 Xiyun soldiers stationed there, and Xiao Changyi bringing reinforcements, the 20,000 Chilin soldiers were no match and were quickly slain by the swords of the Xiyun soldiers.
