Chapter 1472: Chapter 1473 Xiao Changyi’s Respect

Du Aya chuckled and said, ”I have no other skills, just a bit of brute strength.”

Xiao Changyi saw Du Aya destroy the battering ram and said nothing, simply averting his gaze to once again watch the enemy siege the city.

The Chilin soldiers saw the battering rams destroyed, and their morale plummeted further. Some of them even stopped following Qian Taiwen in the charge.

In their view, rather than being crushed to death by stones, it would be better to be finished off by a sword from Qian Taiwen.

But Qian Taiwen had no choice but to continue the assault on the city.

The Emperor of Chilin stated that if Jingye City couldn’t be retaken, then he would meet the same fate as Ma Da Gong and die here.

”Great General!” Qian Taiwen’s deputy general rode in front of him, blocking his path forward. ”As long as the green hills are preserved, there’s no fear of running out of firewood!”

The meaning was clear, urging Qian Taiwen to retreat and stop the assault, as the losses were truly devastating!

Qian Taiwen looked at the corpses strewn across the battlefield and said sorrowfully, ”They can hurl stones at us, and we cannot defend ourselves against it. No matter when we attack the city, it will always be like this.”

The deputy general said, ”That’s indeed the case, but Great General, knowing full well it’s a death trap, you can’t just throw yourself into it, can you?”

Qian Taiwen replied, ”As a Chilin person, I will not surrender. But the Emperor grows more indulgent in women, more tyrannical, more obstinate, executing innocents countless times. I cannot persuade him. It might be better to die here, and let it all be over.”

The deputy general also knew that the Emperor of Chilin decreed Qian Taiwen must die here to compensate if the city was not retaken, and since Qian Taiwen refused to surrender, death was the only option. The deputy general immediately clasped his hands and said, ”Great General, this General owes my current position to your promotion. The Great General’s kindness to This General is as heavy as a mountain. On the road to hell, this General will accompany the Great General!”

”Good!” Qian Taiwen was unwilling to let his deputy general surrender to Xiyun, nor did he want his deputy general to continue living in the turmoil of Chilin. It was better to die in battle with him now.

Then, regardless of whether any Chilin soldiers followed them in the charge, the two of them, riding horses, plunged into the rain of arrows and stones, as if determined to reclaim Jingye City or die trying.

Xiao Changyi stood on the city tower, quietly watching as Qian Taiwen and his deputy general charged into the storm of arrows and stones with tragic heroism and loyal deeds, a trace of regret flickering in his cold eyes, while a look of respect appeared on his otherwise expressionless face.

The stones did not hit the two men, but they struck their horses, causing them to fall, bringing them to the ground as well. As arrows rained down, they immediately wielded their longswords to prevent the arrows from injuring them.

But there were simply too many arrows to block; they could fend off one but not another. They resisted only briefly before taking several arrows, losing their lives.

With Qian Taiwen, the Great General, dead, the remaining Chilin soldiers dared not continue the siege. In fact, many even fled, fearing Xiao Changyi and his men would open the gates and rush out to kill them.

Ge Xiangchong looked at the fallen Qian Taiwen and his deputy general, feeling deeply conflicted, and approached Xiao Changyi intending to say something. But before he could speak, Xiao Changyi calmly said, ”Please, General Ge, kindly see to their burial.”

Ge Xiangchong immediately clasped his hands and said, ”Yes, Great General!” After a pause, ”Thank you, Great General!”

It was evident that he was also about to ask for permission to bury Qian Taiwen and the deputy general.

Seeing the crisis at the north gate resolved, Xiao Changyi no longer stayed there, taking Meng Zhuqing and the others to the eastern side of Jingye City. Chilin soldiers were attempting to penetrate Jingye City through the mountains, but it was unclear how the situation stood there.
