Chapter 1465: Chapter 1466: Great General, something’s wrong

”Great!” The four little ones immediately replied in their childish voices.

Seeing this, Ning Wenxian quickly asked someone to prepare the brush, ink, paper, and inkstone, and let the four little ones each write their own names.

...

Four days later.

Xiao Changyi was standing on the city tower of Jingye City, watching the soldiers in the city and below the tower as they trained.

Just as he was watching, Meng Zhuqing hurriedly came over.

”Master, a letter from the Emperor has arrived.” With that, Meng Zhuqing respectfully handed Xiao Changyi a particularly thick letter.

Su Chengyu’s letters were always particularly thick, and Meng Zhuqing was already used to it, not curious about what was written inside.

Xiao Changyi was even more accustomed to Su Chengyu’s thick letters.

Unless there was an urgent situation that prevented Su Chengyu from rambling on and writing so many words, generally his letters to Xiao Changyi would be very thick, as if he wished to say everything for the whole year.

Xiao Changyi didn’t know how he became Su Chengyu’s confidante, but ever since it happened, he was resistant at first and found it annoying. But later he got used to it. Now, he felt nothing at all.

Calmly he opened the letter to read, page after page.

The more he read towards the end, the more warmth appeared in Xiao Changyi’s cold eyes. This was because, towards the back, Su Chengyu wrote about the situation of his four children, and the things his four children wanted to say to him and his wife.

A large portion of the front of the letter wasn’t Su Chengyu rambling, but him praising the battle’s success and urging them to return safely to the Capital.

Until the last four pages, each page bore a name, each name consisting of three characters, written very poorly, crookedly, clearly not written by Su Chengyu. According to what Su Chengyu mentioned earlier in the letter, these should’ve been written by his four children. Xiao Changyi’s mouth subtly curled into a barely noticeable smile.

Because An Jing was developing explosives and didn’t want to be disturbed, Xiao Changyi didn’t immediately take the letter to show An Jing.

When An Jing emerged from the explosive research room at noon, Xiao Changyi showed the letter to An Jing.

Seeing the letter, especially the names written by the four little ones and the messages they wanted to convey to her and her husband, An Jing was especially delighted.

Initially busy with explosive research, she hardly thought of the children recently, but now upon seeing the letter, her attachment to the children surged back.

Thinking about not seeing her four children for almost four months, her eyes slightly reddened.

She missed the children. Truly.

Also felt she owed them especially.

Her children were still so little.

When she returns to the Imperial Capital, she must make it up to them well.

Although the words written by the little ones were extremely crude, An Jing looked at them as if they were treasures.

After looking at them for a while, An Jing reluctantly put away these four pages with names, storing them like treasures, planning to look at them every night as if the little ones were right by her and her husband’s side.

Once she put them away, An Jing and Xiao Changyi sat down to have lunch together.

After more than ten days of recovery, An Jing’s hand had completely scabbed over, and some scabs had even fallen off.

An Jing could already eat with chopsticks. Xiao Changyi initially wanted to feed An Jing himself, but she wouldn’t let him, so he let it go and let An Jing eat by herself as usual.

But just as the two were starting to eat, Liu Buli hurriedly arrived, received approval, and quickly entered, reporting to Xiao Changyi: ”Great General, it’s not good, according to the spy’s report, the Emperor of Chilin has sent many troops and horses, intending to reclaim Jingye City.”
