COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

’But it’s not easy to use.’ Chabashira, who had been silently paying attention to the students’ free play, said in her heart. ’There are many problem children, and it is difficult to tame them, but if successfully under control, will be an absolute help.....’

Because of the students’ self-recommendation, 5 projects that you really want to compete in have been prepared.

But according to exam rules, scheduled for 27th.

However, public announcement of the two parties’ 10 projects will be made tomorrow.

Specifically, five projects will be submitted to the school one day before competition, but 10 projects need to be prepared in 2 days.

In other words, only five of ten will be real, and the other are smokescreens used to confuse enemy class.

Ten projects were announced and known to both classes.

Then you can train specifically to get good results on competition day.

However, method is also very tiring.

First of all, class also sent out 10 smoke bombs to confuse the other side, but 5 of them were real, so needed to train hard on these five items, and had to practice 10 items announced by other side, which means to practice 15 items, which was really terrible.

What’s even worse is that maybe your class has trained for a long time, but on day of the exam, out of the 5 projects reported by both classes, that is, 5+5, 7 projects are drawn out for the exam.

If you are very unlucky, only 2 projects will be drawn from your class.

So to speak, isn’t this super disgusting?

This exam is not easy.

It depends on how ruthless the other class is and how hard your own works.

Of course, Hachiman’s class only needs to deal with 10 items of the enemy class, so there is actually no point in training specifically for own class’s items.

Because they are all singles competitions, and strength of the problem children is overwhelming.

So as long as you draw, you will win.

It also relieved pressure on most of the students.

“Hey! What are you doing!?”

However, Yukimura, the top student who was sitting by window and was listening and thinking seriously, suddenly spoke up.

He stuck his head out of the window as if he was very angry.

At this time, students sitting by the window also stuck their heads out and found there were several students in corridor, and some were even close to wall of their classroom.

“Isn’t that a student from Class B?”

Someone expressed doubts.

But people understand what this is doing, Class B want to come and get information.

They actually forgot to close door while discussing.

Now don’t know how much information has been leaked.

You know, these are exam rules that were just announced in morning.

Even Commanding officer will not draw lots for class competitions until tomorrow, but the people from Class B have already set out.

Is Sakayanagi-san from Class B going to target them now?

“I feel a little worried,” Hikigaya-kun said while watching this scene.

??? But, Suzune immediately turned to look at him, judged immediately, he was lying, ’because he was obviously very happy.....The students from Class B ran over, which meant that was on guard against him....That meant, although confrontation between the four classes would have to be decided by drawing lots tomorrow at Commander’s Tower, Class B should have decided on opponent....Hikigaya-kun probably knew in advance identity of the class he would be fighting against, so he was happy....’

But if Hachiman knew that Suzune thought this way, he would shake his head again.

Because she is too young.

Hachiman was just happy that message conveyed by Sakayanagi- ’I want to fight you’ - was same as his.

He doesn’t like trouble.

So he accepted Sakayanagi’s challenge, and now that he had the chance, he might as well use it.

And Sakayanagi’s actions in arranging people also illustrate this point.

She wants to compete.

In other words, even though didn’t use their cell phones to communicate, both Arisu and Hachiman worked well together.

There were basically no problems with description of the rules and determination of items on the first day of exam.

However, there is still one step to go, that is, as commander, you need to draw lots to choose the class to compete against.

This is different from the previous pairing test. You can’t match up just by being the first one to do it.

It requires luck.

Let’s just say that for now.

Hachiman felt that money Sakayanagi had spent had paid off.

Next day at ten o’clock in morning.

After the second period, Hachiman walked out of classroom alone.

Because of special exam, no one would say anything if he skipped the entire third period.

School will definitely not deduct points.

Because this is a task belongs only to Commander of each class.

Go draw lots to decide opposing class.

“Let’s walk slowly, Hikigaya. We don’t have to rush.”

???

Following behind Chabashira, Hachiman looked at teacher’s straight back as they walked to special classroom school had prepared for the four first-year commanders.

The door of classroom was open, and you could see its original appearance just by standing at the door.

There are large LED screens on the front and back walls of classroom.

In the middle there are four separate tables with 2 orientations.

There is a computer on table.

There was a lottery box on one of the tables, which seemed to be waiting for commanders of each class to come and draw lots to decide the fighting class.

You can see Mr. Mashima, who was formerly in Class A and is now in Class B, with whom Hachiman have had several contacts.

There was Arisu Sakayanagi sitting on one side, who seemed to be the first to arrive.

Next came Ichinose and homeroom teacher, Ms. Hoshinomiya Chie.

Chie is confused, but she is a good person. This is what Ichinose said.

Chie is the grown-up version of Kushida, and because of her age, she is probably the Kushida plus version.

This is what Hachiman’s camera knows.

Any kindness may hide darkness, and so far, the only people who can be consistent in their inner and outer appearance are Ichinose Honami and Horikita Suzune.

“Ahahaha - Hikigaya-kun, you are the commander after all~” Ichinose greeted her fiance in a friendly manner.

Just a slight evasive look.

Um.....She probably considered the interests of class again, and then might have to make a somewhat difficult decision.

In terms of overall strength, Ichinose’s class is very good, crushing Class C and D, but if they fight Class B, the probability of losing is more than 50%.

Although on the surface, at least it won’t be as tragic as seven games turning into seven losses, at least they will lose four out of seven.

And such a loss would only add 220 points to class evaluation score of Class B where Sakayanagi is (100 points are the school reward for the class match + 30 points obtained from the defeated class in each for winning four games and losing three games).

It looks like Ichinose’s class will go back to B.

You already know scores.

One incredible thing, you are going to take 210 points from enemy, which means gap is double of 420 + 100 = 520.

If Ichinose’s class can get such a high score, still has hope of keeping the throne of Class A for a long time.

So even though she owed Sakayanagi a favor, Ichinose probably still hoped that Hachiman’s class could face off against Class B, and leave her own.

This way her position in the class will be more stable.

It was just too much, so her eyes looked unnatural.

’But does she really understand? She is not against Sakayanagi, but wants to fight against Ryuen. Does she think she can beat him? Ichinose is still an angel, so she doesn’t know how dirty a person can be.....’ Hachiman felt that it was a good idea to use this exam as a conclusion to semester, and it should help these little angels grow a little.

Although the exams haven’t started yet, Hikigaya-kun has already confirmed that since Ryuen-san is in power, he will definitely not let the class end with 0 points. ’In final score, Ryuen should get more than 200 points.....’

“Boom——”

Just as he was thinking this, commander of Class D arrived.

The first person to come in was the class teacher - Sakagami.

The person following behind him was not Ryuen, the current center of Class D, but a boy named Kaneda.

Ichinose’s smile faded slightly.

Because this Kaneda was none other than spy who infiltrated her class during exam on the island.

It was later confirmed this Kaneda was an excellent student in Class D and often served as a think tank.

He was trusted by Ryuen, and even when Ryuen was inactive during the forest exam, Kaneda was in charge.

For Ichinose, what needs to be paid attention to now is that in the last class voting for withdrawal exam, Ryuen received a vote of praise and was awarded a gold medal that exempts him from being expelled once.

’So why is commander of the exam this time not Ryuen-kun but Kaneda-kun?Does he want to force him to drop out of school, or Ryuen-kun has an event that he is sure to win, or maybe... Ryuen-kun just wants to protect his own golden medal of immunity from death.....feel like he had no chance of winning against my Class A....Or, Ryuen-kun was sure that his class would never lose....Or maybe this is a smokescreen psychological attack used by Ryuen-kun, making people feel uneasy....’ Ichinose thought of a lot of possibilities.

What was revealed was that Class D felt a bit strange.

Ichinose noticed something subtle.

“So----ahm...Ahm!”

The homeroom teacher of Class A, Hoshinomiya Chie, saw that everyone had arrived and coughed twice.

“Then let’s start explaining rules. But before that, you should first decide on the opposing class by drawing lots. There are four lots in the box, but only one has a red mark on it. The person who draws it can be first to decide on the opposing class.”

Because there are only four classes, when one class challenges another class, the remaining two classes have to fight back as well.

Chie has been the teacher of Class A for three consecutive months and is actually in a good mood.

But it’s also not okay....Because at this time, Chabashira didn’t react at all.

’Hey, hey, hey, Chabashira, didn’t you serve as the homeroom teacher of Class A once before? So you don’t even feel bad at all about losing your place?’ Chie was not in a good mood.

But she hid it well, and continued with a cute smile on her face, “So, Sakayanagi, do you want to smoke first?”

??? Arisu was confused, ’what do you mean by smoking? Don’t you already know I have a heart disease?!’

“.....” Ichinose who heard something unholy.

“• •” Hachiman realised she is probably angry.

“• ! •” Mashima who concluded she was teasing him by flaunting opportunity to Sakayanagi, knowing well first chance deserved to Class A, but his class has already fallen, ’What a petty woman....She still hasn’t changed....and holds grudges.’

This is a slight abuse of personal rights among teachers.

“....No need. I’ll wait for everyone else to finish drawing and then get last lot. No matter which class we play against, our Class B will not lose.” Although Sakayanagi is small, she looks very fragile, but her words are not timid at all.

“In that case, can we draw first?” Kaneda said with his glasses.

???

Kaneda is from Class D, and is at the bottom according to principle of strength first, but Hachiman nodded, and Ichinose did not refuse.

So he reached out his hand first under the gaze of everyone.

Took out a red lot.

He got it.

“It seems that our class has finally gotten lucky, and I’m going to designate the class we’re going to face off against—” Kaneda pushed his glasses up slightly, with a wise smile, and then looked at, “It’s Class A.”

“...I accept,” Ichinose replied with a daring smile of her own.

This result was an agreement between her and Sakayanagi.

In the class withdrawal exam, one of conditions for Sakayanagi to lend her points was to take away the right to choose the next class enemy.

Sakayanagi wants to fight against Class C.

So naturally, could only face Class D.

This is to repay a favor.

She and Class C were once allies, and even though C was demoted just one month after being promoted to Class A, would not look down on Hachiman and the others.

Rather, it feels like avoiding a powerful enemy.

Especially rules of the exam this time, students are allowed to make up own test questions, and there are a few cheaters and monsters in Hachiman’s class, so no matter how you look at it, it’s better to avoid them.

In this way, Although Ichinose had an uncomfortable feeling that her class was being looked down upon, she couldn’t deny it, and relatively speaking, she felt that it would be safer to face Ryuen’s class.

Bastard!

Thus, in a brief draw, results of the confrontation between each class were determined.

Class D vs Class A.

Class C vs Class B.

From time, lots were drawn to when results came out, Hachiman’s expression remained unchanged.

Because if it was Sakayanagi who drew the lots, he would definitely be chosen, and Ichinose didn’t want to play against him.

As for Ryuen’s class, if they wanted to get points would have to use dirty tricks, so definitely not play against him or Sakayanagi class who were very vigilant.

Therefore, even if Sakayanagi doesn’t bribe Ryuen, the best opponent him will be Ichinose’s class.

So, to sum up, this lottery is just a decoration.

A lottery called luck, but in fact everything has been decided long ago.

Both Arisu and Hachiman were able to predict this.

“Then, let’s start reading the rules now!” Seeing that Ichinose chose Class D, Hoshinomiya breathed a sigh of relief.

In her opinion, students in her class are of high quality, so she has an advantage over Class D in various exams.

So it should be possible to win.

So, Chie held up the rules and explained, “The Commander can interfere in seven games, and you will be locked up here on day of the exam. Now please look at four tables and computers on them. On day of the test, you can intervene in each game, and use it to select students in your class who are participating in game and pass on information.”

“You can tell other person the answer, or say something else, but you can only give instructions to one student. You can choose the person to be summoned and use computer. Their portrait will appear on the desktop during the competition. But one thing you need to pay attention to is that in order to prevent voice errors, method you can use is actually typing mode. By typing into the computer, the system automatically converts it into voice and transmits it to headset of the student you selected who is wearing a helmet. The prompts that can be given for each game are also limited.”

“….”
