COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

“I will be changing classes next month. So I won’t be in B anymore. But this was my home, and I hope it can be supported by someone. I have already assessed the abilities of Kushida and Horikita. So there will be three people meeting you next, it’s going to be a test.”

I see. After hearing the list of negotiators proposed by Hikigaya-senpai, Nanase Tsubasa reported it to Hosen and quickly got his approval.

Agreed to meet at library at 8 o’clock tomorrow night.

Let’s have a good talk about pairing up the two classes.

“That’s probably what happened,”

After receiving Hosen’s confirmation from Nanase, Hachiman notified the candidates who were selected to participate in discussion during the class meeting the next day.

They are Yosuke Hirata, Teruhiko Yukimura, and Kiyotaka Ayanokoji.

“If it’s on behalf of the class, I have no problem!” Suddenly his name was called, but Yukimura said proudly, “But wouldn’t it be better for Hikigaya to come forward at this time?” ’In previous exams, Hikigaya was the one who either led or secretly supported us, but in this exam, I felt that he did not participate too much.’

“.....” Suzune.

“About this,” Hachiman looked at the person with short dark green hair who was also named and was shitting quietly.

Hirata-kun.

In the past, he was little sun of the class and had title of Mother Hirata, Male Angel.

Although his popularity has dropped a bit after blowing up in the class vote to drop out of school, he is still a reliable person.

“Actually,” Hirata-kun finally pulled his pants up and said as he stood up with a calm demeanor, “Hikigaya-kun has received an invitation from a student from another class. The other party is willing to pay 20 million points to buy him.”

“What?!”

This kind of talk is quite surprising.

Because it’s 20 million, and because there has already been a graduating class, students also know that when they graduate, school will collect points from them at a certain ratio and exchange for real cash.

In other words, the private points in mobile phone are no longer just points, but real money.

Is there really anyone willing to spend so much money just to change classes?

Moreover, if you really have 20 million, wouldn’t it be more advantageous to jump to Class A when you are about to graduate?

“That’s the thing. Because I’m going to be bought out, I can’t stay in this class anymore. But, I don’t want all of you to be missing out because of my absence.”

Hikigaya-kun was thinking about everyone else, and let others make the decision.

Some students also checked OAA data.

Second year class B, Hikigaya Hachiman.

Academic ability C+ (60)

Athleticism B- (70)

Intelligence A (84)

Social Contribution A+ (99)

Final evaluation B+ (78)

Hikigaya’s academic ability is only C+, and his social contribution score is a bonus due to his membership in the student council, so data isn’t that strong.

“Um...”At this time, the cute girl with a golden ponytail who usually likes to ask questions opened her mouth.

It’s Karuizawa Kei, “Can you tell me which class bought you over?”

“Ryuen Kakeru.”

Because once it is really bought, it will definitely be announced.

Boom! It created an uproar!

“What is Ryuen trying to do?!” Sudo was very persistent towards Ryuen, or rather, he was badly tricked. So, he is very angry after hearing this.

“...Isn’t it Class A?” Yukimura also heard this news for the first time.

However, he was different from other students.

’I would not judge people by their academic ability, but thought that Hikigaya was well-balanced in all aspects, and sometimes even thought that my thinking was not as good as his. Looking back on what happened in the past year, our class was able to be promoted to A, and I felt that Hikigaya played a significant role. Even....I was somewhat suspicious this month last year, Hikigaya broke the camera just to have Student Council announce existence of the evaluation scores in advance, and then have everyone keep remaining scores in the first month....This lays foundation, and situation of catching up bravely. If that’s case... then Hikigaya must have figured out school’s rules a long time ago. Understand the essence of school. This observation and insight is somewhat terrifying. And if you look at it from this perspective, as a class representative, if me and Hikigaya are not in the same class, I also felt that I would consider buying him over.....Because he can even lead Class D to be promoted to A once. Then it is normal to continue flying upwards with a powerful one. Therefore, it is actually normal for him to be bought by other classes....But, I thought that it was Class A who would do...Only, it turns out Ryuen wants to buy him.’

However, Yukimura had no idea that it wasn’t Ryuen that wanted to buy, but Class A was rejected and Class B didn’t have the money.

After the announcement was made, Hachiman came down from podium and returned to his seat.

“Is it just completely announced like this?” a black-haired girl sitting next to him suddenly asked.

This is Horikita Suzune. Today her profile scored 96 points.

“Yeah. But,” Hikigaya put his hands on the table, as if he was a little curious, “I will be moving to another class next month. And then, how will you face me? Different classes mean class confrontation, so even if we are acquaintances, but then enemies. So, are you going to treat me as a threat?”

’Once Hikigaya Hachiman leaves this class and becomes the representative or leader of another class, he will be a real enemy in exams. This is true. But, can I really treat him as an enemy and attack?’ This question troubled Suzune for the entire morning.

“Horikita-san—”

“Horikita-san—”

“Hmm?” Suzune looked in the direction where the voice came from.

She was a girl wearing pink glasses and had two rustic ponytails. Her name was Sakura Airi, “Class is over.”

Forehead....

Only then did Suzune realize that she was staring blankly at a physics book, which should be from the previous lecture.

“....Thank you Sakura-san.”

“No problem,” In fact, Sakura found it understandable.

She was also surprised to hear that Hikigaya-kun was going to change classes, and found it hard to accept.

’....I even considered what to do if he went down like this. Because I seemed to be somewhat dependent on Hikigaya-kun, and he also helped me a lot. So, I felt a little uneasy. As a result, I saw that Horikita-san was even more unstable than me, so I stepped out and gave her a warning.’

Now, Suzune glanced at table on the left and found it was empty.

As usual, Hikigaya Hachiman had gone to the third floor to eat.

....It made her a bit sad and lonely.

“Right, he is going to leave....”

She was strong, and didn’t cry when her brother left school but now suddenly, girl felt her eyes started to become a bit watery.

“• •” Sakura. ’....Horikita-san, you have fallen in love. And don’t even know it, but I have been watching everything from the 1st day.’

“So, do you want to have lunch together, Horikita-san?” Knowing, she was being too bold and straight forward, but Sakura felt girl shouldn’t be left alone at this point of time, even felt she had stopped stuttering.

“...You want to eat with me?”

“Mm-hm.”

Lunch break, Cafeteria on 3rd floor.

Hachiman did eat here.

Today’s side dish is clam and loofah soup, taste great together. One of Taiwan’s specialties.

“Hikigaya-kun actually advertised in class that he was going to move to D. I didn’t expect that Dragon Boy actually managed to collect 20 million yen.” That was Sakayanagi’s way to say hello during lunch break.

“It seems my class is already in tatters,” Hachiman complained a lot moment after hearing this, “It was just announced this morning, but you already know about it.”

“Well....These are all reported by the people below. There’s nothing I can do even if I don’t want to listen,” Sakayanagi gently opened her fair hands.

It made a ╮(╯▽╰)╭ shape.

In other words, it was not her idea to place spies in different classes.

“If you were to go to Ryuen-kun’s class. I’m a little tempted. Although some people in your class are very good at cheating, there won’t be that many who will listen. But if you go to Ryuen-kun’s, I think Dragon boy will definitely cooperate with you. So, maybe you can climb up from D to A class again.”

’In other words, is Sakayanagi now thinking about having another class battle, or a two-person battle between her and me?’

“If that’s case, then you’ll only be embarrassed again, Sakayanagi.”

“.....” Kamuro-san was eating on the side, listening to the conversation between two. ’At the same time, I feel a lot of pressure. Because Sakayanagi Arisu, you are going to do something stupid again. I don’t want to return to Class A after just getting promoted to A, and then be knocked down again soon! I actually wanted to graduate from Class A and have a good life!’

“....Well, I’m just saying that. But I really hope you can climb up. This way, campus life will be more colorful.” Sakayanagi felt her cheeks burn a little, remembering shame in past battle.

“So, about this special exam. I asked class teacher, and 20% of the second-year exam papers were beyond syllabus, including content that can only be learned in college,” In fact, it wasn’t him who asked, it was Suzune who did.

But answer should be the same.

“And Sakayanagi, don’t you always call yourself a genius? Then it would be easy for you to get a perfect score of 100 in all subjects, right?”

“Oh?” Sakayanagi Arisu blinked softly. Because she had been put into play several times before, and now became alert. ’This means that Hikigaya-kun wanted to divert my attention again so that he could do something secretly. For a very seemingly meaningless exam, is there actually any point or profit to be made?’
