COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

This exam seems to be one that most people will participate in, but in fact, it can also be said to be a one-person performance stage?

If all the projects you choose are those that require brainpower.

It is true that replacing a less capable person as Commander would be terrible and might even harm the class.

Hachiman looked at computer on table, and then at headphones (side)

“Can’t we just transmit the audio to the players? I think voice is more convenient.....” He was having doubts, and a bit confused as to why it became so difficult.

“That’s generally true!” Although Chie also felt that voice was faster, during exam, there was also problem of the commander’s slow typing speed, so voice would be more convenient.

As for the voice error.

There is no problem with the students’ accents.

“But, according to rules, this is what happens. These are set by examiner, and we can only follow them.” Chie was also pretty much confused like always.

Hikigaya-kun nodded. ’It seems to be correct. This time exam will still be conducted by Acting Director Tsukishiro as chief examiner....Well, even if the other party is outside the school, it is possible that he or she can give some instructions on day of the exam.....Therefore, for this exam, I will arrange for Ayanokoji to take the stage as sacrifice!’

Class C is determined to compete against B.

After leaving the Commander’s room, Hachiman returned to the class and informed the students who had been absent-minded throughout draw.

“Ahhh—”

”So that’s how it is - what should we do? Those guys in Class B - aren’t they from Class A?!”

“I’ve already figured out they’re going to give out a bunch of exams!”

“But there are a few top students in our class, so don’t panic—”

“That’s not necessarily true, because what if other party’s various written tests directly require several or even a dozen students to take them together?!”

Then it would be dangerous!

According to rules of the exam, the proposed events can be participated by one person or by a large number of people, as long as there are no more than 20 people in one session.

Class B is proud of its decent basic hardware.

If it is a competition among top students, Class C still has a few to show off.

But if other party has an exam with 5 or even 10 people combined. Then, Class C will just quit outright.

“What a shitty day—” Yukimura, the rare conscientious student in class, frowned.

“Hikigaya-kun, did you not give milk to a ragdoll cat today, who roams in our dormitory?”

“Yeah, his luck is too bad. Maybe he should find a snake and feed him....”

“No, I think he should give bread to some pigeons!”

“What about flowers? If you want, I have some to deliver!”

Because Class B overheard their discussion yesterday, news received today was actually matched against Class B in draw.

Then if other party really organizes a written test with a bunch of people taking part, then class will definitely lose.

Pressure is too great.

“Would you like some water?”

When Hachiman returned to his seat, he found that Suzune, who was sitting next to him, was actually being attentive to him.

“• •” This made Hachiman stunned, and even made him subconsciously touch Suzune’s forehead with his hand, immediately noticed that girl wasn’t hot.

“…I’m not sick.” Although this behavior may seem intimate to others, Suzune does not think so.

She intuitively thought was because Hikigaya-kun was checking her physical condition.

At the same time, Suzune finally understood that Hachiman thought she was being too excited, “I was wondering if you have any other ideas about this exam?” she said quickly, as to hide some kind of embarrassment she was feeling.

Hachiman began to figure out what she meant, ’Got it....What other ideas do I have? Actually, you just want to ask how you want to make money in this exam, right? Maybe it was because her brother was about to graduate, and Horikita Suzune’s total assets were only over 3 million, and this class was hopeless, so she actually thought about collecting 20 million points to go solo.....This is the last exam before her brother graduates and he can see her performance, so she is getting a little anxious....In this case, it means that Horikita is now in a state of full support...If that’s case, then it might not be a bad idea to use her for a while....It will also make Kushida feel good and behave a little more...’

“I do have some ideas,” Hachiman’s brain was running on how to make complete use of his workers, “But let’s finish today’s classes first.”

In this way, During lunch break, all classmates were kept in the room.

“This exam is against a tough class, and we have to play seven games. If you want to win, you have to dominate four games or more, which seems a lot....Because items selected on final exam day are all based on luck. So the goal is not to win, but it is very important to make sure our side does not lose too many points.”

Hachiman stood on the podium.

This time, much smarter.

Doors and windows of the classroom have been closed to prevent the students from Class B from eavesdropping again.

The whole class was still in the room.

Suzune, on the other hand, filled in her class’s project on blackboard.

One-handed typing - Kushida Kikyo

Archery Competition - Akito Miyake

100m sprint - Sudo Ken

1000m - Koenji Rokusuke

English Test - Wang Meiyu

“This is a must-win for our class. I also hope that you can win if got selected. Of course, this is not to put pressure on you, but I hope you can do your best, so before the exam begins, you should take care of your body and train as needed to ensure there will be no problems on day of exam. But I will also arrange some students as substitutes.....Besides our project, from Class B may also be selected.”

Deep breaths!

“So, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka will be our substitute!”

As he said this, others looked in the same direction, and remembered how he scored points in sports festival.

Then, immediately realized that Hikigaya-kun was treating Ayanokoji as a substitute for Sudo or Onodera.

“Then, Yukimura, Hirata-kun, Horikita-san, and Matsushita Chiaki, we will also need you as substitutes. However, it means that Class B will be drawn to take an exam related to academic ability. You will be needed to take the exam.”

”I have no problem.” Yukimura said, pushing up his glasses.

In fact, he was certain that Class B would not give up their class advantage, so there would definitely be a lot of written tests.

If other party takes the test separately, they will require different numbers of people to take the test.

Their class will definitely lose because of not having enough top students.

So, just hope that will be drawn to fewer projects from Class B during the exam.

“I don’t have any problems either!” Hirata-kun also said, he was okay.

After the class vote to withdraw from school, Hirata-kun returned to his usual Mama self.

It was Hirata’s idea that Yamauchi’s desk was not taken away from the class.

The argument was that he wanted to remember that he had instructed everyone to expel a classmate, and all the guilt and anger were vented on him.....

This makes some people feel that it is too much to remember Hirata’s past and reject his present.

Because in essence, he was not wrong.

And now he is also carrying the negative emotions that everyone has towards Yamauchi for dropping out of school.

So, these people continue to befriend Hirata-kun....Of course, there are still some people who are cowardly, feel that past is very horrible.

Although it has become mild now, who knows when it will erupt again.

Moreover, Hirata can sacrifice Yamauchi, so will he also sacrifice them in future?

So, Hirata-kun’s popularity has dropped a bit.

“I won’t lose,” As the top student in class, Suzune certainly had no objection, even full of confidence!

“Chiaki, it’s your turn now—”

The other person whose name Hikigaya called out did not respond, so her friends looked at her quickly.

“Ah... uh... well... okay. I will try my best too!” Chiaki Matsushita replied quickly, she wanted to say that her academic ability was average, so why was she chosen?

“If Class B comes up with some girls’ sports events, you’ll be the fastest in our class!” Even Karuizawa is now hyping up her abilities to the whole class.

Um....After sports festival, their class won A-class position.

It also includes the time when she was leading by 20 to 30 meters and was considered the last runner, but ran desperately, and finally got 3rd place.

At that time, she no longer hid and released herself with all her strength.

So, everyone in class thought she was the fastest runner.

This made Matsushita-san shake her head. She thought her friends were so naive.

She felt that Hikigaya-kun was not asking her to be a backup in sports, but that he saw through her academic ability.....’Eh....Why did I talk to Hikigaya-kun more during the preferential treatment exam? If I hadn’t communicated with him at that time, would he have arranged for me to participate in the competition?’

Matsushita-san felt that project she will be involved in, definitely be extremely critical and require her full effort...’So my strength...is going to be exposed again...Hikigaya-kun is poisonous!’

She will definitely not be a part of his harem anymore!

“Then we need to add five more projects as smoke bombs,” Hachiman said at this time.

In the form handed out by school, in addition to five required items, Hachiman also added some other items such as classical Japanese translation, haiku writing, rock-paper-scissors, and horseback fighting to make up numbers and submitted them to teacher.

Next, relevant students just need to train and wait for the Command Tower showdown to come.

”???”

“I don’t think I’ve been assigned any tasks!”

“Me too! This exam is so good!”

Most of students in class found that they seemed to have no jobs arranged!

Hikigaya-kun is responsible for winning or losing, and the relevant students are also responsible for the events that take place.

That is to say.

Can they stay out of exam?

As Commander, Hachiman sent the selected projects to office and handed them over to Chabashira-sensei.

Just when he walked out of the room, found someone waiting for him.

“Yo...Hikigaya!”

This is Yukimura-kun, backup for Class B’s written exam-related projects.

But he seemed to have no intention of going back to intensive study, and instead found Hachiman, “I want to chat with you!”

Yukimura had an idea, actually has a lot of bad ones.

He had expressed his opinions on the island, then during sports and forest exams, he felt inadequate because of his poor physical fitness.

However, for Hachiman, Yukimura is a very unique existence, because Yukimura is a top student, but he is also the one who is truly in Class C, and then wants to look forward to Class A with everyone else.

In other words, they are a minority of people who are responsible and want to move forward.

It’s a pity but Hikigaya-kun have no intention of continuing to promote this class to A.

Better to say.

Although Sakayanagi wants to compete, he may even lose on purpose.

In this way, So what does Yukimura-kun have to say now?

“Um?”

“Do you still remember Katsuragi Kōhei? He seems to have lost his power now. So maybe... we can split Class B!”

’Oh, are you going bad too? Want a spy?’ For a moment, Hachiman thought he saw the former Ryuen.

Split Class B.

“The atmosphere in Class B is really weird right now. The noisy boy named Yahiko who used to follow Katsuragi was expelled,” Yukimura blabbered, what he knew from Haruka’s gossip, “Then, Sakayanagi Arisu from his class became vice-president of student council and commander of this exam. She is in charge of Class B now.....That is to say, Katsuragi has completely lost his power, and he, who once had power, is likely dissatisfied with Sakayanagi. It is said that he was selected as a dropout in last withdrawal exam, but she deceived him and sent his followers away, so he must have a grudge against that girl!”

’I see....One word is enough to tell you everything,’ Hachiman understood what Yukimura said, “Are you planning to turn Katsuragi against her and use him as a spy?”

Yukimura nodded unabashedly, “Although Katsuragi’s status in Class B has declined, his ability is still very strong, so if he participates, I want him to give us some slack. Of course, it’s possible that he was not selected by Sakayanagi to participate in the competition, but as long as he goes in the event, then we can all ask Katsuragi to give us some relief?”

Hachiman stared at this fool.

“Then, maybe we can win one more game. In this way, as long as we draw our class’s must-win event, the chances of winning are very high. And with Katsuragi’s slack, if we win one more game, we can even get the evaluation points from Class B!” Yukimura-kun’s face instantly brightens up as he says this.

His proposal makes sense.

This time, Command Tower duel adopted a best-of-seven system.

A class that wins one round can get 30 points from the opponent, and a class that wins four or more rounds can get an additional 100 points.

The final competition items are that each class will submit 5 items, and then 7 are randomly selected from the 10.

Maybe because of bad luck, 5 out of the final 7 items will be from the other class.

Wouldn’t that be terrible?

Very bad, because this is worst case scenario.

If Yukimura’s class can win two games, and then let Katsuragi let them win one game, and Hachiman will prepare a team of top students, who will play one more game and give victory.

If you count them, 4 wins.

So to speak, there is still a chance to win. No wonder Yukimura has become so radiant.

However, if you can conspire with people in the other class to cheat beforehand, then your chances of winning will definitely increase.

Yukimura said it very well.

But, he is still too young. Because what is Class B? The environment is even worse than that of Class C.

If Yukimura goes to persuade Katsuragi to rebel, let alone whether he will agree with his team spirit, as long as Yukimura goes there, he may be discovered by various spies in Class B.

Then report to Sakayanagi. So, what’s the point of inciting rebellion?

’Sakayanagi likes to hold grudges, so you, Yukimura-kun, are probably going to be next dropout from Class C.....’ Hachiman is still very concerned about this core student who wants to be promoted to Class A.

“• ? •” Yukimura felt some pity.

Because they are tools on road to promotion, will help without any good promises or rewards.

It’s quite pitiful that a good student like Yukimura dropped out of school.

After thinking for a while, Hikigaya-kun dedicated his words to bring this child back home, “As for Katsuragi, I don’t think he is the kind of person who would ignore the overall evaluation of Class B. After all, this is final exam for first grade....They were in Class A when entered, and it will be shameful for not being able to return to their place at end of first year.....It will also lower views from new students. Besides, Katsuragi is the representative of former Class A after all, so I think he can see the situation, and understand the big picture clearly.”

In other words, Hikigaya-kun is already politely rejecting Yukimura, telling him that probability of him turning Katsuragi a spy is very low.

“But if you dislike or hate someone, you will hold the grudge for a long time!” Yukimura still insisted.

“....I’d rather not get involved in this kind of thing. If you really want to proceed, go find Hirata.” Hachiman said very coldly, and gave him a blank dead eyes look. ’If Hirata can throw his shit at me, I will happily give it back in loads!’

“.....” Yukimura-kun.

Finding that his argument didn’t make sense, Hachiman chose to retreat.

“…Then let me think about it again,” Seeing that Hachiman was about to leave, Yukimura did not try to stop him.

But he himself had made up his mind, ’This is really possible. I must go talk to Katsuragi Kohei.....’

’Then, go fuck yourself in nuts....’ Hachiman didn’t care about his well-being either now, he was at the roads end with Yukimura.
