COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

”H-Hikigaya-kun, you cursed me!!”

”Me? What did I do?” Hachiman was pretty confused, it wasn’t even his fault, ”Weren’t you feeling so proud before, Ichinose?!”

”I was not!”

”Ah, this scene reminds me of the warning sign on instruction manual of a light bulb: Please don’t put this thing in your mouth! But why would anyone even think of doing it in the first place? But, look at yourself Ichinose?!” Hachiman said with satisfaction when he saw that even archangel in the school would receive same treatment as him and Horikita.

”Please don’t say that anymore!” Ichinose immediately asked for, ”Help me get my hand out. I have classes tomorrow. I don’t want to go to class with a water bottle!”

She and Suzune are actually the same kind of people as him, all think this state is very pure... and very stupid.

So Hachiman, who had experience, immediately went to get her some soapy water.

Lubrication was performed.

Thus, after pulling Ichinose’s hand out, Hikigaya and others began the next round of special exams.

Class voting Exam.

This is very daunting for all students.

Ichinose was lucky.

Unlike Hachiman, she didn’t need to carry a water bottle on her hand to go to class the next day.

When he came to class the next day, Hachiman discovered an unusual phenomenon.

This is 1st of every month.

7 o’clock is a happy time for everyone.

The school distributes money at this time every day, and Hikigaya was satisfied to receive points from the school, Ichinose’s class, and Horikita Manabu’s class.

All third graders had returned the day before, so Hikigaya’s points today reached a terrifying number.

This puts Hikigaya in a good mood.

The whole morning was like a spring breeze.

However, he arrived at the classroom early, only to find that someone who shouldn’t have arrived early had already made a club.

That was a regular class meeting every Monday, and Chabashira-sensei arrived on time.

It was to start at 8:10, and Chabashira-sensei would arrive around 8:08.

It was only 7:40, and she was already standing at the podium.

She is serious, but expression seems to be as if she is doubting life.

Because of her, the usually lively atmosphere suddenly became suppressed.

Even teacher was not able to use her cold mouth and ridicule others, so most of students also suppressed their voices.

At least usual unbridled fighting was gone.

”Ohayo, Horikita-san.”

Hachiman noticed that Suzune had already sat down and taken out her textbook, so he greeted her.

”.....Ohay--chotto matte,” However, while responding to him, Suzune suddenly raised her head and looked at him, ”Why do you smell like perfume that Ichinose-san uses?”

”.....” Hachiman felt that Suzune still needed to learn how to deal with people, for example, some words should not be said so directly.

For example, Ichinose doesn’t use perfume, this is just her own scent.

Smells good.

Also, he wasn’t cheating or anything, it was just that Ichinose stayed in his room yesterday and left her scent.

The molecules move irregularly, so the fragrance will definitely remain on his body.

Instead, her question sounded like an act of infidelity.

As if she heard Horikita’s voice, Kushida, who was sitting in front, turned around.

”Kushida-chan?”

But Wang Meiyu seemed to want to chat with her, so Kushida turned back immediately.

After a while, other students like Karuizawa and Sato came over together, but Sakura seemed to have slept late.

However, she was able to get 50 points in every subject in this exam, which is considered an improvement.

Her athletic and academic both have improved, so Sakura is now considered an average student in the class.

Very nice. Hikigaya felt the relief of an old father seeing his child finally grow up.

And now, Sakura is coming here with Haruka, and it seems they have a good relationship.

Although she thinks Horikita-san is not good at chatting, Hikigaya-kun will still feel pressured if she continues to talk.

So Hachiman signaled to Suzune and pointed towards Chabashira-sensei who was in a daze.

Suzune seems to have noticed this behaviour, ”Maybe there’s some bad news to announce....”

This was already normal, when Chabashira-sensei stood on the podium she was going to make an announcement or something.

But she looked different than anyone had ever seen today.

”Maybe she was dumped by a male teacher.” Haruka, who also noticed this behavior, started gossiping in the small group.

”Is that so? Sensei’s in a state of heartbreak now?” Sakura opened her cell phone too!

She joined this group a while ago.

It should be that Haruka and she became friends and pulled her in.

Although Hachiman had seen Kushida’s cell phone, five people could form four groups, so it would be very troublesome for anyone to talk to anyone else.

But Haruka is obviously not that exaggerated.

So, she was quite active in this small group for tutoring and studying, so invited her acquaintances to join.

”I always feel that teachers in our grade are weird. It seems like none of them are married yet,” Kushida also sent a message, hitting some people’s nerves.

By the way, how did Kushida get into Yukimura’s group of tutoring?

However, topic they were discussing now was of great interest to both Kushida and Haruka.

”Maybe it’s because they are not good-looking enough, but I’m talking about boys. Your Sensei should be popular among male teachers,” Kamuro-san replied her own.

”Aye--” Sakura, who was standing to Horikita’s right, let out a cute cry.

This made students around look over.

But Sakura was pretty shocked!

She was no stranger to Kamuro-san.

Whether it was the previous physical training or the remedial class that had just ended, she had always guided her.

Only, Isn’t this class group?

Why is Kamuro-san from another class here too?

”....” This caused Hikigaya to send a message to Kamuro.

Kamuro-san was also playing with her phone at this time, and she replied when Kushida invited her to join.

Um, so why is this? Kushida, what do you want to do?

Although the performance seemed calm, students were actually quite lively in private.

And this is probably... that people haven’t realized seriousness of the matter yet.

Hachiman looked at his cell phone, then at Chabashira-Sensei, and found she had raised her head, as if she had glanced at him unintentionally.

But she quickly looked away.

”???” Was he that bad looking?

”Well, even though it’s not time for the class meeting yet, let’s start notifying everyone,” Sae tapped the table first, ”First of all, your performance in this written test was good. Although you didn’t get any awards, no one dropped out.”

”I can see that you have studied hard. Unlike the D classes I taught before, they were not able to achieve this period without anyone dropping out, nor were they able to achieve the promotion to A class like you, accomplishing something that has never happened in this school before.”

Chabashira-sensei said, but it was as if she was just reading from a script.

However, even so, the words spoken sound extra beautiful.

Although she usually has a stern face, all the mates inclass felt that Chabashira-sensei had become much cuter.

Boys of this age don’t know how good teachers are, and girls don’t know that Sae-chan can actually be their rivals in love.

They don’t know some boys also admire teachers.

???

But, Chabashira quickly stopped her compliment and said, ”However, there will be a special exam in five days. And, it’s going to be very unacceptable to you.”

”Sensei--”

After Chabashira came in, she started praising heavily, but soon proposed an exam, so some students immediately expressed their doubts.

The one who raised her hand now was Horikita Suzune who was beside Hachiman.”Is there anything unusual about this exam?”

Oho? Noticing that it was Suzune who asked this, even Chabashira looked over.

Could it be that Horikita Suzune has learned to recognize the atmosphere?

”Yes, this was a sudden notification from the school,” But Chabashira just replied to Horikita quite normally, seemed vague.

”So what is content of the special exam?” Hirata-kun tried to push her further, he was having a bad feeling.

Although he had adapted to having special exams every month, he actually began to fear exams.

It was not that he thought the exams were difficult, but that if he failed every exam, he would have to drop out of school.

If so, students in the class would be in danger. He did not want to see any students drop out of this situation.

But Hikigaya-kun reminded him more than once this would definitely be the result.

So he was in great pain.

But Chabashira seemed to sigh, thinking for a while before speaking, ”It’s the simplest test, everyone can pass....” She didn’t even believe her own words.

”In the next four days, you will have free time in morning class meetings. I will not take up this time, and you need to evaluate your classmates. Then select three students you think should be praised and three students you think should be criticized, and vote on exam day on Saturday. These are your so called ’contents of the exam.’” Chabashira said as she wrote the rules on the blackboard.

This exam was a little unusual.

Although Chabashira is writing on the blackboard, anyone who pays close attention can see what she is saying.

The exam is on Saturday.

Weekends are a time for holidays.

But still use it for exams. Isn’t this very unusual?

The rules are also listed.

In-class voting and evaluation test.

The rules are as follows.

Students were given three votes for approval and three votes for criticism, and a formal class vote was held on the fifth day, Saturday, to determine results.

Rule 1

Votes of appreciation and votes of criticism interfere with each other.

Votes of appreciation - votes of criticism = Result 0

Rule 2

You cannot vote for yourself, whether it is a vote of praise or a vote of criticism.

”....Damn it, I was thinking of doing a critic on myself, so I can be motivated, you know?”

A voice reached out to many ears.

??? Yamauchi. ’Are there people like this in my class?’

Rule 3

Voting for the same person multiple times, leaving the form blank, or abstentions are prohibited.

Rule 4

The exam will be repeated until the first and last place are determined.

The last place will be expelled.

Rule 5

Each person also has an extra vote of appreciation to vote for students from other classes, which is mandatory to fill out and vote on.

Note: If the exam time is exceeded, a student will be randomly selected to drop out.

The above are the rules and patches for the special exam.

The test forms that will be distributed to everyone on Saturday have also been drawn.

Basically you can fill in the names of three classmates who you want to praise and criticize, and a seventh name to fill in the votes of approval from other classes.

There is no doubt test is very simple and easy. That is why Chabashira said it is the easiest one so far and anyone can do it.

But, content of this exam can be said to be the most cruel so far.

Because Chabashira went on to say, ”I know this isn’t first time you have experienced unfair, and the so-called exam is definitely not so simple. But please rest assured it will not be linked to the class evaluation score. And this voting exam will have two results.”

”First, student who gets the most votes of appreciation in each class will be protected once.”

”This protection refers to a right that can be invalidated even by expulsion from school.”

”Even if you fail the exam, as long as you have the protection reward, you can use it to negate expulsion. However, protection reward cannot be transferred to other people.” Although what Chabashira said still had an official meaning.

But it’s not difficult to understand.

Almost immediately after she finished speaking, there was a commotion in the class.

”Fuck.....” Suzune who was nothing, she had a dark expression on her face, knowing what she always did was ridicule and insult everyone she met, very unpopular in class.

This is an impulse more intense than any previous one.

This is an opportunity to avoid expulsion.

For a poor student or athlete, wouldn’t it be a life-saving talisman if they obtained it?

”I don’t like it, this is just completely unfair to me, I want to appeal against the Chairman!” Suzune was really furious, and even horrified by the possibility that she could be voted out from school by even Karuizawa-san!

Chabashira understood her cheering, she too was like this before, ”You all know how powerful this protection reward is. In essence, it has a value comparable to 20 million personal points. Of course, from the perspective of excellent students who don’t have to worry about dropping out, it may not be that valuable.”

She tried to comfort Suzune, who wasn’t relieved in the slightest, ”Why don’t you say something, Hikigaya-kun?!”

”• •” Hachiman ignored the glare from a black-haired girl sitting beside him.

The first half of sentence makes people happy, but the second half is nonsense.

Which outstanding student would hate the protection of dropping out of school? Even Suzune wouldn’t refuse this, right?

But it’s just unfortunate, she was very cold to others who even looked in her direction.

For Hachiman, the exam rules read out by Chabashira-sensei were similar to those revealed by Maeda-senpai from Shiina-san.

But there are also differences.

That is, Maeda wanted to obtain criticism votes from Ryuen’s class against the external.

However, according to the examination rules listed by Chabashira-sensei, students from other classes can only be praised.

Students from other classes cannot be attacked with criticism votes.

It looks like the lethality has decreased.

At the same time, rewards are a bit excessive. Hachiman finally looked to his right.

Suzune had already frowned quite a lot today, as she had not received any prior information, she felt that matter was not simple.

”So, what about the punishment?” Hirata asked again, and his question made the whole class quiet down.

The reward is excessive, so what about the punishment?

What Chabashira-sensei is talking about now is only the person who gets the most praise votes, so what about the person who gets the most criticism?

”The topic of this special exam is [to select the first place and then decide the last place]” Chabashira’s tone became devoid of any emotions, ”So Hirata, your worst fear came true.”

”The first place winner will be rewarded from expulsion, but the last winner will be punished by expulsion.”

Chabashira read slowly, but the excitement of the class had already disappeared.

The penalty of dropping out of school.

Everyone has gotten used to the fact that if you fail written examination, you will be expelled from school.

It is not uncommon for this kind of exam to have a penalty of expulsion.

In the past, in written examinations, no matter what, as long as you did well and passed the exam, you would not drop out of school.

Just Avoid dropping out of school.

Then we reach current state of zero dropouts in the entire class.

But what about this exam?

Hachiman just gave a small glance of his dead eyes to a boy named, Yamauchi Haruki whose thoughts were now very similar to Suzune.
