COTE: A Man On A Mission || Love is War?

Last semester, written exam was held in 2nd month of enrollment.

Now, in second month of next semester, there are also written exam.

Assessment is content taught in next month.

There are five subjects in total.

Reward is based on the class average score, with four classes competing against each other, and the highest reward is 100 points.

Those who fail the exam will be expelled.

A simple analysis is that if it is a written test, you can buy past papers, but because the test is based on content of month’s classes, modern language and physics textbooks in the newly released books are different from those for second graders.

They are new versions of textbooks.

So past papers that you can buy may only be suitable for first semester midterm exam for 1st-year students.

Unable to try it out now.

In other words, exam depends on the students’ own efforts.

Hachiman suddenly felt that it was very valuable to study with Suzune during the holidays.

That’s how it should be.

Things you have worked hard for need to be tested.

So he was in a good mood.

And equally frankly.

“Ding ding!”

Hachiman discovered that he had received a message from Haruka on his phone.

It seems that Yukimura is in a good mood about study session during the holidays, feeling that it finally came in handy.

Haruka also took opportunity to invite Yukimura to continue.

Test questions are based on next month’s courses.

It doesn’t look like much.

If you have a top student to help you sort it out, then you will definitely benefit.

So, Yukimura’s study group continued.

Since he was a freelance academic, Hachiman didn’t mind participating.

So after school in afternoon, everyone went to the shopping street together and prepared to study in the cafe.

’I just received my living allowance today, so there is no need to treat myself badly, so I did my job of watching others studying while eating.’

The coffee tasted good. Until.

Everyone looked out from the huge floor-to-ceiling windows and saw two angels walking together.

It’s Ichinose and Kushida-chan.

This is a very rare combination.

“Ichinose-san is really amazing.” Haruka said, while oogling out of the window like rest, “We were both promoted to Class A, but our class fell down after just one month, while Ichinose-san and the others have been at top for 3rd month now! Is it possible to maintain this until graduation?”

”It’s really amazing—”

However, everyone also noticed that Yukimura, who had just been complaining about Ike, became a little dazed.

Maybe he has a crush on Ichinose.

After all, Ichinose is the most famous person on campus, and almost impossible to find someone who truly hates her.

Even the slightly inferior version of Kushida said in her venting that although she is jealous of Ichinose’s popularity, cannot hate her.

”Isn’t this... Hikigaya-kun and Yukimura-kun?” Just when everyone was discussing, Ichinose and Kushida had already walked here, and Ichinose took the initiative to greet them.

”Hello, hello.” Yukimura’s reaction was like that of a child.

Hachiman wasn’t as spineless as him, “Are you going back to the dorms?”

“💢” ’Bastard! Kushida-chan was here too, how could you ignore me after getting married?!’

”Yeah,” Ichinose nodded like it was obvious, “But I’m a little surprised that Hikigaya-kun would go with his friends. Isn’t Horikita-san here today?”

“She wanted to force me into her dormitory and read. I left when I could.....”

”I see... I’ve heard that Horikita-san likes studying very much...” Ichinose was originally chatting with Hachiman, but when she found out there were other people around, she quickly changed the subject. ”Does everyone have a plan for this exam?”

In other words, archangel saw these people together and thought of bad number of poor students in Horikita’s class.

Last semester, because their class was an alliance with Hachiman, they were invited to teach some poor students.

From perspective of rules, there are no loopholes in exam.

So, maybe can only study hard.

“For now, it’s limited to study sessions,” Yukimura said as if he wanted to show off.

“???” Haruka felt like her nose was running with gunpowder, ’what do you mean by for now?’

“That’s really amazing then.” Ichinose also smiled.

Yukimura blushed instantly.

It can be said that his feelings were revealed on his face without any concealment.

What a pure boy.

And since Ichinose and Kushida were just passing by, they left quickly.

Hachiman noticed that Haruka frowned slightly, “Ichinose-san seems easy to get along with, but I don’t really like her. Although she is good-looking and beautiful, don’t you think she is too perfect?”

“Such a person can be approached, but I don’t think I can touch her. I hope she can degenerate a little,” Haruka expressed her senses.

No, you just cursed her luck!

“Hasebe, don’t say that!” Yukimura said quickly, ”Ichinose is a well-known popular person. You will be criticized by others if you say that.”

“I guess I made you unhappy,” Haruka said mercilessly, ”Although there is no rumor that Ichinose has a scandal with anyone, I think that girl definitely doesn’t want a boyfriend who is a top student.”

”Why?” Yukimura became very excited.

“Because she got top score in written exam for admission in her grade, so when it comes to love, don’t you think she would prefer to teach a boyfriend who is a poor student? She can use tutoring as an opportunity to enhance their relationship. And if both are top students, there is nothing to do if you meet....Just like Hikigaya and Horikita-san, just look at why she would prefer to teach him!”

”Why is this happening...” Yukimura seemed to be losing energy.

“• •” Hachiman kept his mouth shut, but he also thought.

That is, since there is no shortcut to exam, only thing to do is to study hard and find a good student to rely on.

Then, in his memory, there is someone who also needs to study.

Otherwise, exam would be very stressful for her.

And Sakayanagi might teach other person..... right?

So, Hachiman picked up his cell phone.

[Hello?]

”What do you want now?” The other party sent a message quickly.

[If you want to seek help from Sakayanagi to improve your academic ability, I hope you can bring Sakura with you.]

It’s Sakura again.

Of course it’s her.

Although Sakura works very hard and has made some progress in sports under the guidance of Kamuro, her academic performance is quite regrettable.

It was as if something was blocking her, and was difficult for an ordinary teacher to improve her grades.

So Hachiman thought that a genius like Sakayanagi might have a solution.

But now have to ask Kamuro-san for the introduction.

He continued typing.

[Don’t think about rejecting her right away. Sakura’s academic ability is lower than yours, so if Sakayanagi teaches her, she will find out that you are not that stupid.]

[Means there is someone to back you up.]

“…” Kamuro-san believes there is no point in trusting him.

But she has to be taught by Sakayanagi who has such high academic ability...

Although most people in the class can teach, as Sakayanagi’s confidant, her academic ability is shockingly low.

She is the only C grade in class, which is very embarrassing.

If you are taught by Sakayanagi, she will mock you, saying things like

“You don’t even understand such a question”

“I’m disappointed in you, Kamuro-san!”

“I’m worried that you’ll betray class again because of written exam next time....”

So if there was someone at bottom, she might not have been scolded so harshly by Sakayanagi.

Kamuro-san accepted Hikigaya’s recommendation with a grateful text using a thumbs up emoji.

Yukimura was first person to form a study group, so he deserves recognition.

Very quickly.

Hirata finally reacted and felt they needed to start forming a class reunion now to improve everyone’s grades.

And he also looked for Hikigaya-kun.

”Is it true that the only solution to this exam is to study hard?” Hirata asked.

“The exam questions are set by the school, and syllabus has been finalized. I don’t think there is any room for shortcuts. And only solution is one that Ryuen’s class used last semester, where everyone controls their grades.”

In other words, controls the points.

This time exam will compare the average scores of the four classes, and then  class with the highest score will receive 100 points.

There is no penalty for second, third, or even fourth place.

Only thing to worry about is that students who fail will be expelled.

The failing score is class average divided by two.

Therefore, all staff can collaborate to control the scores within a range that everyone can achieve, for example, can score more than 10 points.

Ryuen’s class can do this, but....

Because even if this is agreed upon, will always be people who do not trust their companions.

So Hachiman just said this and didn’t continue.

“Is this only way?” Hirata murmured under his breath, it seems he has figured it out.

After he entered the school, he made various contributions to class and patiently dealt with various problems of his classmates.

During sports, he was informed that entry list was leaked and there was a spy in class.

For sake of peace, Hirata did not arrest these people.

But it is a fact there are bad people in class.

Therefore, this kind of score control plan is simply impossible to accomplish for this fragile child.

”Hirata look...I think you should be prepared. Even if no one drops out of school in this exam, someone will drop out in the next or one after that...President Horikita’s class was the only one in entire school where no one dropped out. However, the price they paid was very high, and it’s something our class can’t afford...you know our budget is weak.”

The so-called preventing people from dropping out means collecting 20 million points to be exempted from the penalty of dropping out.

Take most recent forest training exam as an example.

Every student in the class paid 100,000 points to Class D as protection money.

There are always a few people who don’t participate.

According to them, feel level is good enough and will definitely not end up last, so they should not pay the money.

And these students need Hirata to continue to mobilize and even provide with subsidies.

So hardly dare to imagine how many people would agree if all the classmates collected 20 million points to save someone.

Because if divided equally, each person will need 500,000.

“I know that, too. Damn it!” Hirata finally sighed helplessly, “Then let’s try not to have any dropouts this time. As long as everyone studies hard, we can get through this.”

“...Did you not listen what I just said?”

“When exam comes, I will ask Horikita-san and the others to lower the score.....”

“• ? •” Hachiman realised this child had gone too far.

Let students with good academic ability lower their scores as much as possible, then average will also drop, so the passing score making it safer.

That is to say.

If Hirata is class representative, then plan for exam is still to have no one drop out of Class B.

Hachiman had no objection to this, he no longer cares about this kind of exam which has no benefits.

So if Hirata is willing to take over, then let him do it.

At least, he wouldn’t compete with Sakayanagi in academics.

Because there is simply no way... to compare.

Hirata rescheduled study session for the next day’s class meeting.

No one refused this.

A large number of poor immediately accepted and welcomed it.

Apart from.

“I’m not participating.”

“...why? Don’t be like this Koenji-kun!”

Koenji refused in a high-profile manner as always. Then he combed his hair while holding a mirror like every day, “I am so beautiful and charming today!”

Hirata’s lips were twitching, even he couldn’t keep a straight face anymore.

“Hikigaya-kun.....”

’You sick fuck! Don’t look at me now!’
