Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1180 - 624: Return to the World Tree

”Things after that...”

What did Wei Bai choose to do?

He agreed to their demands.

From then on, the Wei Family became their base for infiltrating the underground world.

Wei Shishi’s parents’ bodies were also taken by them, with the reason being they needed to be above ground to revive them, as there were no suitable medical facilities in the underground world.

Wei Bai initially wanted to go with them, but they only took him above ground to let him see the sunlight for the first time, and then sent him back to the underground world.

They told Wei Bai he needed to complete his task, to have the Wei Family help surface humans infiltrate the underground human base. After that, he would not only see his son again but also... achieve immortality.

The sunlight that underground humans hadn’t seen in a millennium was displayed before him, making him extremely excited. Together with the fact that he came to the surface via teleportation, he had almost no reason to doubt their words.

At that time, he had no choice but to trust them. He could only trust them because there was nothing else he could do.

After returning to the underground world, Wei Bai began his planning.

”At the crucial moment, some who had been laying plans for a thousand years were completely missing.” Wei Shishi glanced at Xu Ying.

”Ah... I wasn’t even around during that time,”

Xu Ying met the young Wei Bai fifty years ago and then directly traveled to the present fifty years later.

How could she know so much had happened during this period...

They had previously traveled in intervals of fifty years.

After all, they couldn’t influence the world’s trajectory too frequently, otherwise, it might lead to big problems. Most importantly, space-time had already twisted for them, and they couldn’t withstand too many instances of time travel.

Traveling to a thousand years later in intervals of fifty years was already their limit for ensuring world stability and personal safety.

Even though the previous time travels had nearly no major issues, the last time was a different story...

”Ying...” Keke, maybe not understanding, crawled a couple of steps on the table, tugging at Wei Shishi’s sleeve with her little paws.

Wei Shishi softened her expression a bit, stroked Keke’s head.

It was Keke’s first time letting a stranger she had just met touch her without flinching away.

”For a year, Grandpa seemed to be languishing in his room without stepping outside, but in reality, he was secretly operating, having those surface humans infiltrate the surface.”

Wei Shishi lowered her gaze and explained.

”As for why he didn’t leverage his position as Patriarch to do such things, first, certain things can’t be seen by others — if it was the Patriarch, he might be mistaken for someone missing, which he couldn’t explain easily. Second, doing it this way, the infiltration progress of the opposition would be slower.”

Speaking, she again looked at Xu Xin and Xu Ying.

”Grandpa was waiting for you during that time. If you had come, maybe... he wouldn’t have had to continue doing such things.”

”But you... only arrived twenty years later.”

Xu Ying sighed lightly, unsure what to say.

Wei Shishi continued, ”A year later, the infiltration level of the opposition underground was about right; the results satisfied them. Grandpa didn’t have to frequently connect with them anymore, so they took Grandpa to the World Tree, injecting him with a potion.”

”Although that potion couldn’t grant immortality, it could delay aging. That day, Grandpa’s haggard appearance reverted to his state before my parents’ deaths, and his rate of aging slowed. That was the day I went to deliver food to Grandpa, and naturally... he resumed his role as Patriarch.”

Xu Xin whispered to himself, ”Isn’t that bloodline mutation? It turns out the opposition also has this method to extend lifespan without relying on bloodline mutations.”

”But it comes at a price,” Xu Ying said, ”The potion they injected into Wei Bai must be received periodically, or else his aging would accelerate, causing rapid death, alongside a definite impact on his mental state.”

Wei Shishi nodded, ”After that, Grandpa could no longer resist them. By then he knew my parents... were never coming back...”

Wei Shishi finished, took a sip of water from her cup, and fell silent.

Xu Xin had many questions, but seeing Wei Shishi in this state, he found it hard to voice them.

”I’ll take over from here,” Xu Ying continued, ”I first went to discuss the matter with Wei Shishi, then we confronted Wei Bai together, hmm, my sister-in-law was present at the time.”

”When Wei Bai saw us then, he was not surprised at all. Because he... had a lot of faith in me; he knew I would definitely figure out what he had done, so he had been waiting for me to confront him, prepared to face everything.”

”Then he told us the story just now. He said he didn’t really know which members of the Wei Family and the people in this city were traitors or had been replaced, it was all kept from him too.”

”However, he knew that over these twenty years, the opposition had been sending select people from the underground world to the surface consistently, with the number of population disappearances in these twenty years being more than twice as much as before.”

”He also informed us that the military factories of the Wei Family were already under the control of the opposition.”
