Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1164 - 619: The Weakness of the Alien Invaders?

This little pterodactyl is very close to Xu Xin, completely unguarded, with its eyes closed, enjoying Xu Xin’s touch.

”It’s so well-behaved!” Xu Ying’s eyes lit up, she squatted down and reached out to pet it, only for it to turn its head to avoid her.

”Ah—” The little pterodactyl flapped its wings and let out a cry, showing a hint of resistance to Xu Ying.

”...Why can you touch it and I can’t?” Xu Ying and the little pterodactyl stared at each other.

Xu Xin immediately activated his mind-reading ability.

[Don’t touch me!]

[No one can touch me except my master!]

The little pterodactyl referred to him as its master.

”Little guy, are you that giant egg?” Xu Xin asked immediately.

”Ah!” The little pterodactyl nuzzled Xu Xin with its head.

Goodness, it really is!

The giant egg showed signs of hatching during the previous heat wave event.

Because he had not been here during this time, the task of incubating the giant egg had always been handed over to the pangolin concubine, and the three pangolins were taken care of by Li Yajun, who had the knowledge and ability in this area.

He had been so busy during this period that he hadn’t paid attention to the hatching progress of the giant egg.

And now, the egg, which could move around freely even before hatching, actually hatched into a creature!

Counting the time, more than a month had passed inside the World Tree, so it was normal for the giant egg to hatch during this period.

However, is this... a pterodactyl?

Xu Xin had seen petrified pterodactyls, but this little pterodactyl in front of him seemed to be different somehow...

Where exactly...?

”Ah, Brother Xin is back! And is that... Brother Xin’s sister?”

”Finally got to see Brother Xin again; it’s been half a month, right?”

”We can’t really say ’finally,’ considering only a few hours have passed outside.”

”Brother Xin! How’s it going? Isn’t the settlement we’ve built amazing?”

All the survivors wore smiles never seen before.

Everyone gathered around.

Before everyone had gathered, the little pterodactyl had already taken to the sky, flying into the fruit grove from before.

Xu Xin chatted with the survivors who came over.

During this period, they had been continuously working on constructing this area, hardly resting apart from eating and sleeping.

Yet, everyone was extremely satisfied.

”Haha, Brother Xin, we are not tired at all. Compared to the outside, we feel like we’re just playing a building game!”

”Ah, I’ve had a dream since I was little to build an area of my own like in the games. I never thought I would realize it in this world!”

”What do you mean ’this world’? It’s Earth here, okay? You should say your dream has finally come true after a thousand years~”

”...? Why does that sound so bleak? And I was talking about the world inside this ’World Tree’!”

Amidst the laughter and chatter, Xu Xin asked Ji Chaoyang and a few others about their current location, then bade farewell to everyone and headed that way.

Immersed in this kind of atmosphere, Xu Xin sighed: ”Ah, they’re really living it up in here, I don’t even want to leave.”

”Hmm... me too,” Xu Ying said enviously, ”Once we transfer the underground technology up here, we’ll need to produce weapons and equipment for a while. I can take it easy here for a bit.”

If the area was like a town before, now it’s like a villa district.

”There’s even a stream?” Xu Xin looked at the stream running through the area with some surprise, ”How did this little stream appear? Where does the water come from?”

This reminded him of the memory Shi Wanyun had transmitted to him, where a woman referred to as number 5 lived in an area with a stream.

”Don’t forget, this is within the World Tree; getting water is extremely easy.”

They walked to the stream, and Xu Ying scooped up a handful of water, taking a gentle sip, revealing a satisfied expression: ”No wonder it’s the spring water of the World Tree, it’s so sweet!”

”The spring water of the World Tree?”

Xu Xin looked at the stream and saw some small fish and shrimp swimming in the flowing water.

”Yes, it’s moisture extracted by the World Tree, purified by the World Tree, and provided to the inhabitants inside the World Tree.”

Xu Ying stood up.

”This is also one of the World Tree’s unique abilities, purifying water resources. Even by the coast, in places full of poison, or even in the desert, as long as a World Tree is planted, it can extract sufficient moisture, and it’s all high-quality, directly drinkable World Tree spring water.”

She explained.

”...The World Tree really is maxed out in strategic value, researched by alien invaders.” Xu Xin marveled.

Just this one function would have been like a national treasure a thousand years ago.

”No, this aspect wasn’t intentionally researched by those monsters.” Xu Ying shook her head, ”Water is the Source of Life for Earth, but not for those alien invaders. To my knowledge, they don’t need to extract moisture at all.

The World Tree’s ability to purify water resources is likely because its prototype — the banyan tree — naturally requires a large amount of moisture to thrive. We just get to benefit from it...”

”Wait.” Xu interrupted her, ”Did you just say the alien invaders don’t need water to sustain life?”

”To my knowledge, they don’t.” Xu Ying nodded, ”Not only do they not need it, they seem to be extremely averse to water, to the point of not wanting to come into contact with liquid water.”
