Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1171 - 621: Those Two Aren’t Our Gods, Are They!_2

It was perfectly normal that they could recognize the two of them.

Unfortunately, Xu Xin and Xu Ying didn’t have much time.

The main reason they were out walking the streets was to have Xu Xin use his mind-reading ability to check the people in the area, to see how many of them had issues, and what proportion of the crowd those people made up.

To attract the attention of the problematic ones, Xu Xin had even put on a wool cap with a lush World Tree painted on it.

People whose thoughts he couldn’t read were obviously problematic.

And among those whose thoughts he could read, if anyone saw the World Tree symbol on his hat and certain thoughts popped up, that meant they were problematic too.

But all the way up to now, Xu Xin hadn’t found anything wrong with the people around them.

That actually surprised him a little.

Xu Ying had said earlier that the underground world had been infiltrated; looking at it now, they clearly hadn’t infiltrated all that much.

”Ah, please don’t go that way!”

Seeing Xu Xin and Xu Ying about to turn into an alley, the female reporter’s flustered voice rang out: ”That area’s already been sealed off! A lot of people disappeared there, don’t go over!”

”A lot of people disappeared?” Xu Ying stopped, turned around, and looked at the female reporter. ”When did this happen?”

”It... it was just last night.”

The female reporter seemed a bit stiff under Xu Ying’s questioning.

”The people living at the entrance of the alley noticed that, starting last night, a lot of people went into that alley one after another and never came back out. Practically every minute someone walked in.”

”So this morning, the residents living in the alley, afraid that some criminal gang was doing something illegal there, called the police, and then...”

”And then those people all vanished,” Xu Ying finished for her, then asked, ”Have the identities of the missing people been confirmed?”

”They have.” The female reporter nodded. ”They’re basically all very ordinary people—company employees, students, elderly folks. Now they’ve all disappeared without a trace, they can’t be found. So this place has been sealed off, and no one is allowed to enter. This morning, the families of the missing were making a scene here for quite a while; they should have been dispersed by now.”

At the alley entrance now, there really was almost no one.

Just now, Xu Ying had pulled him toward the quieter area, presumably wanting to use her teleportation ability somewhere out of sight, but they ended up here instead.

Xu Xin looked into the alley and indeed saw two fully armed men with guns standing at the entrance.

Aside from them, there didn’t seem to be anyone else.

”...I see. Bro, let’s go in and take a look.”

”Okay.”

”Hey, you two...!” The female reporter tried to stop them.

At that moment, the cameraman beside her urged, ”Follow them, what are you spacing out for! If those two really are who we think... you think they’re afraid of going missing?”

”Ah! Right!”

The man and woman immediately followed the two into the alley.

”This place is very dangerous right now. Entry is forbidden. Please turn back.”

The two soldiers guarding the alley entrance stopped them, and at the same time both cast scrutinizing looks at the masked and masked-up Xu Xin and Xu Ying.

Xu Ying didn’t say anything. Instead, she somehow produced an ID booklet from somewhere, flipped it open, and showed it to the two soldiers.

Immediately, the expressions on the soldiers’ faces changed.

They became quite excited.

But they still had a soldier’s discipline and didn’t do anything out of line. One of them lifted his hand, as if wanting to salute Xu Xin and Xu Ying, but when he saw the reporter and cameraman behind them, he abruptly stopped the motion.

The two stepped aside. ”Sir... please.”

Xu Ying nodded in acknowledgment, then pulled Xu Xin into the alley.

Outside the alley, the female reporter and the cameraman were first utterly shocked, then grew excited.

They immediately walked up to the two soldiers.

”Excuse me, those two people who just went in...!”

The female reporter’s excited question wasn’t even finished when she saw one of the soldiers snatch the camera from the cameraman’s hands.

Before the reporter and cameraman could react, the soldier deftly removed the card from the camera, then handed the camera back to the cameraman.

”You...!” The female reporter was instantly furious. ”How can you do that!”

”Classified operation. Must not be leaked.”

”We’re from the Yuan Family’s direct News Department. You have no authority to do this!”

The female reporter retorted sharply on the spot.

”Even the Yuan Family would never agree to you leaking footage of this alley.”

”Footage of the alley...? We didn’t even...”

At that moment, the cameraman tugged on the female reporter’s arm. ”Forget it, forget it, let’s get out of here. They’ve got guns! With everything that’s been going on in the Wei Family lately, who knows what kind of temperament the newly appointed Wei Family Patriarch has. If by any chance...”

”I...” The female reporter was a little scared too. In the end, she could only stomp her foot as the cameraman dragged her out of the alley. They walked another few dozen meters and reached a hidden corner.

”Those two, that man and woman, their status is definitely not low!”

The female reporter was somewhat worked up. She glanced back at the statue standing not far away, then turned back. ”We can’t just give up like this. Those two soldiers definitely did that because we filmed those two people. If I’m not wrong, they’re probably...”

As she spoke, she glared angrily at the cameraman. ”How could you be so careless, letting them just grab your camera like that! And you didn’t even insist on getting the card back, you...”
