Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1155 - 616: Trying to Turn Us

That’s right, for some reason, the three girls had been sent to an island.

The island was completely barren, except for that World Tree in the center, which made people involuntarily think.

The whole island was basically bare, there wasn’t even much grass, which made the tall World Tree at the center of the island look extremely abrupt.

”Even a tiny island out in the middle of the sea has a World Tree. Those alien invaders really are getting into every possible crack.”

Lou Fei’Er sighed.

”We can only get closer to the World Tree and take a look.” Jin Yue turned back to look at the World Tree. ”Hopefully we can find a way to go back.”

”We must be careful. Getting close to a World Tree is not a simple matter.”

Shi Wanyun stared at that World Tree, and an incomparably familiar feeling rose in her heart.

She was going through this scene for the second time.

Back then, when she was inexplicably teleported to the other hemisphere, the situation was almost exactly the same as now.

Except that back then it was in a jungle and now it was by the sea, in all other aspects there was basically no difference.

Oh right, and this time there was no mandatory mission forcing her to head for the World Tree.

But they still could only go to the World Tree and have a look; after all, there was no other way.

Shi Wanyun hesitated for a moment and did not explain the situation to the two in front of her.

After all, beside an enemy World Tree, she had no idea whether her words would be eavesdropped on.

She had been personally dispatched by that terrifying monster as a spy; if it found out she had already defected...

Thinking of that terrifying monster from before, Shi Wanyun’s body trembled slightly.

In that case, she could only give the two of them a simple reminder.

But it was fine; Lou Fei’Er and Jin Yue both knew about what she had experienced back then.

The two of them were smart. With her saying this much, they would still be able to understand.

Sure enough, both of their faces showed thoughtful expressions, and then they both reacted.

”Don’t panic. Just put on the Hider Cloaks and act carefully.” Lou Fei’Er took a cloak out of her backpack and put it on.

”I just walked over that way for a bit and didn’t see any mutant creatures.” Jin Yue also took out a cloak and put it on, adding, ”This is just a lonely island in the middle of the sea. Maybe there really aren’t any powerful creatures here.”

”Mm, let’s hope so.” Shi Wanyun let out a soft sigh.

She wondered whether there might be... another monster on this World Tree?

The three girls walked toward the World Tree.

Though it was also a World Tree, the World Tree on this small island was still quite different from their own World Tree.

Overall, it was a whole size smaller than the one the Explorers currently lived on.

The height wasn’t much different, both were close to two hundred meters, but the area covered by the canopy was much smaller.

The canopy of the Explorers’ World Tree covered more than a two‑kilometer radius, enough to encompass the entire Crystal City.

Whereas this World Tree only had...

”About one kilometer?” Lou Fei’Er estimated. ”Such a small World Tree.”

”That’s not small at all.” Shi Wanyun didn’t see it that way.

The World Tree in the other hemisphere she’d been to wasn’t much larger than this one.

Obviously, it was their own tree that was too big.

Jin Yue kept her attention on the surroundings: ”Have you noticed that all the way here, we haven’t seen a single animal?”

Lou Fei’Er nodded. ”Yeah, I noticed. There’s not a single animal here.”

”Maybe this was originally just an island without much life to begin with?” Shi Wanyun said softly. ”The island is too small. If it’s always been isolated from the world, it’s normal that no higher life forms ever evolved.”

Because there was almost no vegetation on the island, observing the surroundings was very easy. It was like being on a grassland; everything around them was clear at a glance.

Absolutely no animals.

Even the ground was saline‑alkali soil that couldn’t even be used for planting.

The three girls had basically figured out the situation here.

”A tiny island with virtually no signs of life, with no other vegetation except for the World Tree.” Lou Fei’Er speculated, ”I’m even starting to suspect this is an artificial island built specifically to plant a World Tree.”

”Building an artificial island in the middle of the ocean?” Shi Wanyun shook her head. ”How would you build it, let it float on the sea? A floating island?”

A normal island doesn’t float on the sea’s surface; an island is the exposed tip of a mountain under the water.

”A floating island couldn’t support a World Tree.” Lou Fei’Er rejected her own idea. ”The World Tree’s roots keep spreading out. Maybe this was just a barren island to begin with.”

A thousand years ago, before Earth’s size expanded, the area here should have been very small, just a tiny bit of land in the ocean. After Earth expanded, it became this big.

In other words, given the island’s original size and its location deep in the ocean, life couldn’t evolve here at all; it could only serve as a brief resting spot for migratory birds at best.

”Mm, then later the alien invaders chose this place and planted a World Tree.”

The three girls had already entered the area covered by the World Tree’s canopy.

Lou Fei’Er and Jin Yue grew even more cautious, their mood turning a little heavier.

It couldn’t be helped; under the enemy’s canopy, all they could do was lower their heads.

Shi Wanyun’s expression, however, changed slightly at that instant, and she stopped walking.

”What’s wrong?” Lou Fei’Er turned to look at her.

”...Nothing.” Shi Wanyun shook her head.

She... had heard that mysterious voice again.
