Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 213: Chapter 197 Awakening

The effect of this little red pill made Xu Xin’s heart skip a beat.

Good stuff, good stuff indeed!

Although it has the irreversible drawback of mutation, the fact that it triggers mutation automatically when one suffers a fatal injury and heals the wound is very enticing.

You’re about to die, who cares about mutating or not, survival is the priority.

However, is this the only pill left?

Xu Xin opened the backpack and took another look, inside there was only this black pill bottle, nothing else.

This small black pill bottle isn’t large, at most it can only hold two red pills.

Lou Fei’Er must have taken one herself already, it seems there really might be only this one left.

Xu Xin put the pill back into his backpack.

Although this pill seems extremely effective, even allowing one to control whether to use its mutative power, without using it there will be no mutation. He doesn’t plan to take it right now.

He decided to observe Lou Fei’Er for a period of time. After all, Lou Feifei regained consciousness after a berserk mutation only after being hit heavily by him. Before that, she had indeed almost completely lost her sanity.

It’s hard to say whether this thing affects one’s will power, it’s better to see if she is clear-headed when she wakes up, ask her if there were any other reactions after taking it, and then consider whether to use it.

Xu Xin came out of Lou Fei’Er’s bedroom and entered the much smaller living room compared to his own treehouse, and turned on the treehouse screen.

He first glanced at the area channel of area 187.

Remaining people: 822.

... He remembered seeing 824 people before dark in the afternoon.

People in their area had died too, two deaths within just a few hours.

These past two days, there shouldn’t be any other dangers, right? It seems that people have already started killing each other, slowly accumulating resources is not as fast as directly robbing other survivors, this is a truth everyone understands.

Although area 187 in the jungle has fewer people, it is more lively in discussion on the area channel compared to area 188, mostly discussing what the next event will be.

”Didn’t that voice say our survival rate would greatly improve, so don’t we have any more death events in the future?”

”Wishful thinking, will this world be so kind?”

”End of the road?”

”Not likely, let’s see if there’s any activity tomorrow.”

Most of them were discussing future events.

In fact, Xu Xin also had doubts about this. Because, at the end of the defense battle, the mysterious voice did not inform about the activities for the next day.

Based on the announcements at the conclusion of previous events, it would either say what event would be on the next day, what time it would start, or it would mention that the next day would be a rest period for survivors to recover.

But after the defense battle ended, it said nothing, the only thing Xu Xin found valuable was ”greatly improved survival rate.”

No choice, take one step at a time now, the urgent priority is to unite and integrate the survivors of area 188.

However, the adjacent area in the middle is indeed a big problem.

Xu Xin glanced again at the small group of the ”Treehouse Chopping Squad,” nothing special.

Except for wondering what Lou Fei’Er was doing, only the one called Miao Dak among the four of them killed someone from area 186, chopped down a treehouse, and obtained a treehouse seed.

He didn’t mention anything about the treehouse core either.

Leaving the screen, Xu Xin headed to the third floor.

Lou Fei’Er’s third floor was similar to his layout, also planting some flowers and plants in the house. Unlike Xu Xin who opened windows in the ceiling, she opened more windows around to allow sunlight to reach these shrubby fruits and vegetables.

”Yum!” Keke immediately picked one and started munching. Xu Xin then realized that Afu had long been enjoying a feast on the third floor.

”These two guys.” Xu Xin shook his head.

These fruits and vegetables are all of green level, he’s not very interested, he’s already overflowing with them on his side.

He casually picked a cucumber and started munching while looking outside.

This treehouse was planted beside a small creek, the scenery was nice enough, and it was located at the edge of a resource area, looking around, there were spots of blue light among the green jungle.

”Let’s leave this treehouse here for now.” Xu Xin stroked his chin, deciding not to chop down this treehouse.

With the treehouse watch in hand, he can observe the movements of jungle area 187 at any time even if he’s over there, no need to move the treehouse over. Besides, his treehouse is not too far from here, with Silver King, it’s just a matter of ten minutes’ journey.

Once the issues in area 187 are resolved, he can come and move this tree over.

As for where Lou Fei’Er would live without this treehouse, that depends on the situation.

Leaving her here is definitely not feasible; her situation is unclear and must be completely controlled. If she’s obedient, let her stay in the parasitic treehouse, if not, just let her stay in the bracelet.

Xu Xin packed all the decoration-related items in the treehouse into his backpack, all of which Lou Feifei purchased from the points mall, and some raw materials like crystals and rosewood. This treehouse doesn’t need decoration anymore, better to take them all back.

And these blue-level pieces of furniture should also be taken along.

Lou Feifei installed several wooden ballistae in the treehouse, and Xu Xin also made and installed many green-level ballistae, turning the entire treehouse into a hedgehog. He had plenty of green-level wood and green-level beast tendons, so he didn’t mind wasting them.

He filled these ballistae with wooden crossbow arrows and set them to automatic attack mode.

Even if he’s not cutting down trees, it doesn’t mean other survivors won’t come. Although everyone nearby is from their zone 188, he can give a reminder but needs to be prepared anyway; after all, those crossing from other zones might not stay away. He definitely doesn’t want to do others a favor.

At present, there are no beasts around, and the heavy crossbow won’t fire randomly.

Having sorted everything out, Xu Xin called Keke and Afu, who were still eating fruit on the third floor, and swung down from the treehouse.

Glancing at the hand ring, Xu Xin mounted the wolf’s back: ”Let’s go, we’re heading back.”

In just a short ten minutes, Xu Xin returned to his own treehouse.

He immediately took out those materials related to decoration. Unfortunately, the tools in everyone’s points mall are the same, so no increase in decoration points could be made for his treehouse.

...Forget it, I’ll place them in the parasite treehouse later.

After a busy day, Xu Xin hugged Keke and sat on the sofa. He rubbed Keke’s tail hard twice and exhaled a long breath.

”Ying ying ying!” Keke continued its ineffective protest.

Today had indeed been a busy day with lots of things; finally, a moment’s rest was possible.

Oh, right, let’s release Lou Fei’Er first.

The weakness of the mutation state lasts 24 hours. Now, even if she wakes up, she is completely weak to the point of being unable to walk, so no need to worry about her doing anything.

Turn the hand ring, it emits a faint red light, then Lou Fei’Er, curling up and holding her legs, suddenly appeared in the treehouse, sitting on the floor.

Her eyes were lifeless, her body slightly trembling, with tear marks on her face.

”...Sigh...?” As she saw the light, she lifted her head and stared blankly at Xu Xin sitting on the sofa.

”I... didn’t die...?” Lou Fei’Er’s eyes gradually regained a hint of clarity but still remained blank, and she spoke with trembling lips.

For some reason, her voice was already a bit hoarse.

This was probably not her acting; it should be her most genuine feeling.

...What’s inside this hand ring, to have scared the woman like this? Next time I see Chang Yin, I’ll have him optimize it, no wonder Afu completely refuses to enter it.

She tried to stand up but, in her weak state, had no strength to move; after propping to the ground twice and finding no strength, she gave up.

”Just now... where was that place... Why...” Lou Fei’Er’s voice was hoarse, and eventually, unable to continue, she hugged her legs again, slightly trembling.

Everything just now made her too desperate.

Lou Fei’Er didn’t know when she woke up; she didn’t even know if she had woken up. She felt she had opened her eyes but saw nothing; before her eyes was endless darkness, as if an empty void.

She wanted to stand up, but couldn’t muster the strength. She reached out to touch, but there was nothing to touch, nothing at all; even beneath her was void, like she was floating in an endless dark void, unable to do anything.

”Is this the world after death...”

Luckily, she could hear her own voice.

”Is there anyone? Is there anyone!!”

In the endless darkness, she feebly swung her legs and feet, but touched nothing, as if an astronaut tossed into space.

The endless darkness seemed to devour her thoughts, and she could only shout to prove her existence and prove she was still alive.

In the end, her voice was already hoarse, yet nothing happened.

”Am I really... still alive...” she huddled in with her legs.

Of course, that man, how could he leave her life?

Here, maybe this truly is the world after death.

Is she doomed to sink endlessly in this eternal darkness?

She wanted to bite her tongue but couldn’t muster any strength; not even pain, which made her firmly believe this is the world after death.

This silent, dark world made her unable to feel time passing, helplessness, and despair gradually consuming her.

Until a light appeared, her eyes brightened, and she suddenly reappeared in the treehouse.

The feeling of sitting on something tangible feels really good.

...

Lou Fei’Er looked at the surrounding reality, feeling the floor beneath her, gradually regaining clarity in her eyes; she touched the cold floor again, and tears couldn’t stop flowing.

Xu Xin watched the teary-eyed Lou Fei’Er looking dully at him, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed. Why did it feel like he bullied her into this state?

He was very curious about what kind of space was inside the hand ring.

”What did you just see?” Xu Xin asked.

”I...” Somehow, Lou Fei’Er felt Xu Xin’s words carried a sort of magic power, prompting her instinctively to respond, being drawn to obey, and with no intent to resist at all.

”Dark, very dark, it’s void... can’t see anything, nor touch, there’s nothing.” She reflexively replied in her already hoarse voice.

She could already discern that she was inside the treehouse, gradually recovering from the earlier state of despair and helplessness, answering Xu Xin’s questions while surveying the surroundings.

Is this his treehouse?
