Berserk God of War

Chapter 583: Chapter 583: The Cicada Sheds Its Skin

Clang...

One by one, the War Soul pursuing soldiers were dumbfounded. The weapons in their hands fell to the ground subconsciously as the Great Commander’s eyes widened in shock. He trembled as he looked at the surrounding dense crowd of 66th Army Soldiers and asked, ”Why are you all still alive?”

As he spoke, he subconsciously glanced at the big tree... Impossible, even if they hid in the trees, there should have been no way to survive.

But the other side was very much alive, untouched by the Beast Tide.

At that moment, Sikong Jing stepped forward, smiling as he said, ”Because we led the Beast Tide here, they heed our commands.”

As soon as this statement was made, tens of thousands of pursuers were stunned, thinking to themselves that it couldn’t be possible.

However, in the next instant, Sikong Jing ordered, ”All men, heed my command—to kill, and leave no survivors.”

Upon hearing the order, the soldiers of the 66th Army charged forth, swiftly slaughtering the tens of thousands of enemies, sparing none.

To this end, two million War Soul pursuing soldiers died in the Soul Penetration Mountains, and the smell of fresh blood began to permeate the air.

Then Sikong Jing coldly commanded, ”All soldiers heed my command, throw away any insignia belonging to the Long Night Empire, and place them on the carcasses of the War Soul pursuing soldiers. These items will prove that we have died.”

With the order given, everyone unhesitatingly discarded all items associated with the Long Night Empire, including storage rings and the like.

Of course, they had previously seized the storage rings of War Soul Dynasty soldiers in the Youmei Mountains, so they didn’t need to worry about storage space for their belongings, and as for the important items, they had already stashed them close to their persons.

”Another order, change into ordinary clothes.”

Following Sikong Jing’s words, the soldiers of the 66th Army did as told, and in an instant, they no longer wore battle armor but plain clothes - disheveled and disorderly, no longer resembling a formal military force.

”March, deeper into the Soul Penetration Mountains,” commanded Sikong Jing.

Upon hearing this, everyone was taken aback. Lian Guang pointed to the tens of thousands of corpses they had slain and asked, ”Boss, those bodies were killed by us. I’m afraid they might leave some traces, shouldn’t we deal with them?”

”No need, the Beast Tide will soon return, and they will erase all traces thoroughly,” Sikong Jing said with a smile.

Realizing this, Lian Guang and the 200,000 soldiers were no longer doubtful and disappeared deep into the Soul Penetration Mountains.

By now, everyone understood that they had died once already.

They had completely changed their identities, and this was Sikong Jing’s plan to escape notice by exploiting the Beast Tide, a strategy akin to the ’golden cicada shedding its shell.’

With two million pursuers and two hundred thousand men, after being trampled back and forth by the Beast Tide, it was impossible to discern that the 66th Army’s men had broken away.

Normally, beneath a Beast Tide, there would be no survivors... let alone a group as large as two hundred thousand.

But Sikong Jing had succeeded; he had pulled off this seemingly inconceivable stratagem. To this day, everyone was still unaware of how Sikong Jing had managed to manipulate the Beast Tide, let alone how he made the demon beasts avoid attacking them.

The recent ordeal felt like a dream.

Only individuals like Xia Die Lian and Ning Jingjing could have guessed that it was the work of that terrifying human-shaped monster.

But they did not probe further, recognizing that it was Sikong Jing’s secret.

Nevertheless, Sui Yu couldn’t help asking, ”Big Brother, the Beast Tide seems different than the one we encountered in the Dark Dragon Mountain Range. Back then, we had to hide inside horse bellies to escape.”

”Now, the Beast Tide is even more terrifying, yet they seem afraid to touch us?”

Back then, the Beast Tide had been vicious towards them, but now it seemed to fear them.

This question also caught Xia Die Lian’s attention; not asking didn’t mean she wasn’t curious.

Sikong Jing smiled and replied, not quite explicitly, ”Back then, I was much weaker. Now, I have grown stronger.”

Back in the Dark Dragon Mountain Range of the Canglong Small Domain, he was a true young cub, the Master of Ten Thousand Beasts, and he needed the breath of the Master of Ten Thousand Beasts to incite a Beast Tide, but now he had grown into his adolescence, a young monster.

To incite a Beast Tide of this scale no longer required the breath of the Master of Ten Thousand Beasts, but instead, it was sufficient to subdue the surrounding Demon Kings.

However, his words were hard to understand, especially for Xia Dalian...

Shouldn’t it be that the human-shaped monster was weak back then, and the current human-shaped monster is stronger, thus possessing a greater deterrent power?

Regrettably, she still dared not ask more.

Half a day later, the Beast Tide indeed charged back, trampling once again over the corpses they had left behind, and the tens of thousands of bodies slain by the 66th Army were successfully turned into mangled corpses, showing no signs of having been killed by humans.

At the same time, the footprints and other traces left by the two hundred thousand people who had departed were wiped clean by the rampaging Beast Tide.

After watching the Beast Tide dissipate, Sikong Jing turned to the 66th Army and said, ”In the coming days, I will teach you new Combat Skills and Cultivation Techniques, etc. We will train in the Soul Penetration Mountain for a month.”

Upon hearing these words, everyone was tremendously shaken and responded with a resounding yes.

...

Two days later, a Vice Commander named Lu Lungan, accompanied by a few hundred people, appeared around the carcasses in the Soul Penetration Mountain.

Looking at the horrifying scene, the Vice Commander clenched his fists so tightly they cracked...

”Act immediately, search for the bodies of the Long Night Black Burning Army’s 66th Legion.”

Following his orders, his subordinates began the search, and soon after, a Commander reported back, ”Vice Commander, the bodies have all been trampled over by the Beast Tide and are in pieces; it’s impossible to distinguish which are from the Long Night Empire and which are ours.”

”Especially since, the Black Burning 66th Legion was previously wearing our War Soul Armor.”

”However, on some of the bodies, we found Tokens and objects etched with the Long Night Empire’s insignia.”

”Underneath the Beast Tide, the Black Burning 66th Legion couldn’t possibly have survived; they must all be dead.”

This report from the Commander received the Vice Commander’s affirmation.

After personally verifying, the Vice Commander left some men behind to collect the bodies, while he himself returned to Netherworld State to report.

He reported everything that happened in the Soul Penetration Mountain to Lu Lungan.

”Strange, how could there suddenly be a Beast Tide?”

Lu Lungan was puzzled at first, but nobody could clarify this question.

What could be done even with a Beast Tide? Perhaps it was a mutual destruction tactic by the 66th Legion, or maybe the 66th Legion had intentionally provoked a Great Demon King’s child, which led to the Beast Tide.

Everyone being dead, Lu Lungan could not find anyone to clarify the matter.

After some time, Lu Lungan cursed and said, ”Damn it, that Black Burning 66th Legion is truly ruthless, even in death they want to drag my two million soldiers to Hell, despicable.”

As he spoke, his eyes flashed with a sudden insight, and he asked, ”The Black Burning 66th Legion, is there anyone alive?”

The Vice Commander replied, ”It’s hard to confirm, we’ve collected less than six hundred thousand mangled corpses, and we can’t even clearly distinguish them... but with our two million men dead, it proves how terrifying this Beast Tide was; it’s unlikely anyone could have survived.”

If there were any survivors, they would have certainly come back to report, but there wasn’t a single one.

Lu Lungan nodded slowly and gave a calm command, ”Inform Cheng Yusu of the Long Night Army not to mention the Beast Tide and to say that their 66th Legion was wiped out by us, leaving not one alive.”

Hearing this, the Vice Commander nodded and sent out the message...
