Berserk God of War

Chapter 579: Chapter 579: The City, We’ve Taken It Down

Thud, thud, thud...

Arrows pierced the dark night, striking the riders on the Black Steeds with deadly accuracy.

Or to be more precise, corpses. One after another, the corpses were pierced through by the arrows, and in the blink of an eye, all fell to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust and sand.

This sight left the Youmei garrison commander dumbstruck. How could it have been so easy?

Wasn’t this supposed to be the Dark Wing Camp? Why was there no resistance at all?

In the darkness, the rising dust made it impossible for the garrison commander to see clearly.

Instinctively, he turned to look at Sikong Jing beside him, but in that instant, he felt a pervasive killing intent. An icy chill shot up from his feet to his head, and a primal instinct of life and death surfaced within him. He shouted, ”It’s a trap... Ah!”

His words were cut short as Sikong Jing’s sword had already struck, piercing his heart with unerring precision.

In his dying moments, the Youmei garrison commander realized he had been duped, but by then, it was too late.

”Kill...”

As Sikong Jing cut down the Youmei garrison commander, the 66th Corps, two hundred thousand strong, had already burst forth, first slaying those soldiers who held bows and were thus least able to defend themselves.

The soldiers of the 66th Corps, having previously succeeded under the pressure of the Golden Dragon Mountain Path atop the Long Night Saint Dragon Palace, were each several degrees stronger in realm than the ordinary Long Night Black Burning Soldiers.

The slaughter now required no effort at all.

Within moments, the city walls were filled with the sounds of killing, as the 66th Corps’ ferocity dominated the one-sided massacre.

Blood, staining the city walls red.

Sikong Jing casually donned a black veil and seized a demon beast of Extraordinary Realm usually ridden by a garrison commander, proceeding to use cavalry tactics to annihilate the Extraordinary Realm masters of Youmei State City...

One by one, they screamed, slain by Sikong Jing.

And with each Extraordinary Realm death, the resolve of the Youmei garrison weakened, soon resulting in a complete rout.

”Run, the Long Night Army has broken through!”

Someone bellowed, and the Youmei garrison began to flee in terror, scrambling towards the various city gates of Youmei State City. Sikong Jing simply ordered a feigned pursuit, without any real intent to chase them down.

For the 66th Corps, there was no need for a total slaughter; taking Youmei State City was sufficient.

One two-hour period later, Youmei State City had quieted down. Sikong Jing stood high upon the city walls and laughing, said to Ning Jingjing, ”You can now send a message to Cheng Yusu, tell him that you have taken Youmei State City and request his troops for support.”

Ning Jingjing’s eyes were filled with amazement as she stared at Sikong Jing, whose instincts for war were simply terrifying.

To him, the battlefield was like home, where he could go wherever he wished.

Taking a deep breath, Ning Jingjing immediately complied, dispatching the message using her authority as a general of the 66th Corps. The Message Bird sped towards Youye State City at full speed...

Once done, Ning Jingjing looked back at Sikong Jing and asked, ”Boss, what do we do next?”

Just as Sikong Jing had instructed, it was now time to address him as Boss.

Sikong Jing spoke slowly, ”Issue my orders to seize all the storage rings and such from the fallen War Soul Dynasty Soldiers, and to secure your important belongings on your person. We will soon discard everything we carry that belongs to the Long Night Empire.”

”After that, regroup here and prepare to follow me into the Soul Penetration Mountain Range.”

Upon hearing these words, Ning Jingjing’s eyes went wide. Was Sikong Jing planning to break away within the Soul Penetration Mountain Range?

But even within the Soul Penetration Mountain Range, could they really hope to trick their way out?

Nonetheless, without further questioning, she set out to do as Sikong Jing had instructed. The members of the 66th Corps acted swiftly, seizing belongings from the bodies of the War Soul Dynasty Soldiers and more.

...

Atop the city walls of Netherworld State, Commander Lu Lungan furrowed his brows deeply, fixating on the seemingly boundless Youxue Plain enveloped in the dark night. Annoyed, he said, ”What on earth is Cheng Yusu up to? Why has there been no movement till now?”

”Report...”

At this moment, a spy came with news, ”Commander Lu, the Long Night Army has all returned to their positions, with no other movements.”

Suddenly, Lu Lungan and his vice commanders were all taken aback. If the Long Night Army had already returned to their camp beneath Youye State City, then what exactly was Cheng Yusu plotting with that invasion of the War Soul Dynasty?

”Commander Lu, I’m afraid Cheng Yusu might be using us to eliminate threats within his ranks, simply to intimidate the Long Night Black Burning Army.”

A strategist, after some thought, suddenly spoke up.

Everyone froze at once, fearing that it might be true. They were all well aware that Cheng Yusu was called in temporarily, and the Long Night Black Burning Army was by no means submissive, so a tyrannical show of intimidation was necessary!

Realizing this, Lu Lungan stomped his feet in frustration: ”Damn Cheng Yusu, making me worry for nothing, damn it!”

”Report...”

In the next instant, another urgent report came in: ”Commander Lu, it’s terrible news, the Youmei State City has fallen to that Long Night corps.”

As soon as the words fell, a chilling wind howled atop the city walls.

Lu Lungan turned his head in disbelief and then burst out: ”What are you talking about? Youmei State City has been taken? By a small Long Night corps of 200,000? Are you fucking kidding me?”

The Long Night corps only had 200,000 soldiers. Behind them, he had dispatched 500,000 elite troops to watch over them, along with three checkpoints, plus the million-strong garrison within Youmei State City. How could it possibly have fallen?

Could it be that all 200,000 of those soldiers were from the Daoist Martial Realm?

But that was impossible. If there were 200,000 Daoist Martial Realm soldiers, they could probably sweep through the entire East Plain Northern Land.

”It has truly fallen. I’m still not clear on the specifics, but the garrison of Youmei State City has already fled.”

”Soon, there will be more message birds arriving with news.”

Just as the reporter had said, more message birds quickly reached Netherworld State City, one after another messenger came to report.

”Commander Lu, the 500,000 men pursuing the Long Night corps have all been annihilated, none survived.”

”Commander Lu, all three checkpoints were massacred, none survived.”

”Commander Lu, the garrison commander of Youmei State City and others have all been slain, none survived, only 600,000 of the million-strong garrison escaped, each one having been terrified, saying the Long Night corps is too horrifying.”

Each report made Lu Lungan feel like vomiting blood, almost to the point of three liters worth.

It was proven true that Youmei State City had indeed been captured by the enemy.

”Mobilize a million Beast Blood Soldiers, and follow me to take back Youmei State City.”

Lu Lungan roared furiously in the end, and then led a million Beast Blood Soldiers back towards Youmei State City.

...

Meanwhile, as Lu Lungan was boiling with rage, there was peace within the Long Night Empire.

Inside the tower at Youye State City,

Cheng Yusu was drinking fine wine, watching the dancing girls gathered from the city, a smug smile on his face.

Now, the Long Night Black Burning Army and the others were frightened, each general silent as cicadas in winter, and each soldier downcast. If they chose not to obey from here on, their fate would be the same as the 66th Corps.’

The Long Night Black Burning Army was already his for the taking, and Cheng Yusu was overjoyed.

”Sikong Jing, I’ve messed with Ning Jingjing and killed your friend. What can you do to me?”

”If you have the guts, come back for me. This time, I will make sure there is no return for you.”

Cheng Yusu, drinking his wine, laughed sinisterly to himself... very much looking forward to Sikong Jing’s response upon receiving the news of Ning Jingjing’s death, and his eventual return.
