Wizard: Grinding from Knight to Primogenitor

Chapter 54: Chapter 54: All Laws Unite, Tier Ten Legendary

Days spent on the road were always tedious.

If he had been alone, Roy wouldn’t have rushed to the Royal Capital. He would have timed his journey to arrive just before the final deadline.

However, unlike Roy, who felt little loyalty toward the King and the Royal Family, Baron Giant Monster was exceptionally loyal.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be leading the group to the Royal Capital himself, nor would he have brought along Allen and Bandi, the Captain of the Personal Guard.

What should have been a ten-day journey was compressed into seven, all thanks to Baron Giant Monster.

Although this wasn’t what Roy had planned, he didn’t voice any dissatisfaction.

’Arriving at the Royal Capital early also means an early end to roughing it on the road!’

After seven days of dusty travel, the Royal Capital of the Laine Kingdom came into view.

The Royal Capital was situated on the Morning Star Plain, in the heartland of the Laine Kingdom. It was the kingdom’s oldest, largest, and most populous city.

The Royal Capital’s permanent population was said to have reached an astonishing 800,000.

Back on Blue Star, where Roy was from, a city of 800,000 residents was nothing special. It wouldn’t even qualify as a large city, just a medium-sized one.

But on this continent, a city with a population of 800,000 was undeniably a megacity.

The only cities larger than this were the capitals of the great empires and a few major provincial seats.

Roy and the others followed the crowd heading into the city, making their way toward the Royal Capital’s gates at a leisurely pace.

Among the crowd entering the city were many other contingents of nobles from various regions.

Like their own, the Official Knights in these contingents wore ornate armor emblazoned with their family crests, with Cross Swords at their waists, and they rode upon majestic Warhorses.

With just a brief glance, Roy spotted sixty or seventy Official Knights.

With nothing better to do, he began to identify the family crests one by one, recalling what he knew about each clan from memory.

He soon realized that the Official Knights entering the city alongside them all hailed from the families of Barons and Viscounts—the so-called lesser nobility.

In the Laine Kingdom, only half the Counts and Marquises received their titles directly from the Royal Family.

The rest were vassals of the four great Dukes.

After paying the City Entry Tax, Roy and the others reached the Outer City of the Royal Capital.

Like Ice Wind City, the Royal Capital was also divided into an Inner City and an Outer City.

At the very center of the Inner City was the Royal Palace.

Upon entering the Outer City, they continued toward the Inner City without stopping.

As summoned nobles, they didn’t need to find their own accommodations. They just had to report to the residence of the Minister of Military Affairs, after which lodgings would be arranged for them.

Before the expedition officially began, they had nothing else to do but wait in the Royal Capital.

Their specific assignments would only be issued once all the representatives from the Royal Family’s vassal clans had arrived in the Royal Capital.

Typically, they wouldn’t be integrated into the Royal Army. Instead, they would form what was known as a vassal force.

Only in Special circumstances—for instance, if a Royal Army unit lacked an Official Knight to act as its commander—would one of them be selected to serve as a temporary commander.

This scenario typically only occurred in cases of poor preparation or when a large number of low-ranking officers had been killed in action.

As for the vassal force, commanders at various levels would be appointed based on factors such as personal strength, noble title, fief location, and the number of soldiers they brought.

To put it simply, the greater one’s strength, the higher their title, and the more soldiers they brought, the greater their chances of being appointed a high-ranking commander.

Family representatives like Roy and Miria, who were participating alone without any soldiers, had low-ranking titles, and possessed no outstanding personal strength, would most likely be assigned to another family’s unit.

Take Roy, for example.

Based on the strength he had demonstrated, he would either be assigned to Baron Giant Monster’s unit or to the unit of another noble from Yorkshire.

Unless he revealed greater strength, his chances of commanding a vassal unit were practically zero.

Tony had contacted Baron Giant Monster in advance for this very reason, preparing to be integrated into the Baron’s unit.

However, he never imagined he would lose to Roy.

He also never expected that Roy wouldn’t even bring a single soldier.

If it had been him, he would have brought at least a dozen soldiers, no matter the circumstances, rather than heading to the Royal Capital alone.

Neither Roy, Allen, nor Miria had ever been to the Royal Capital before.

But with Baron Giant Monster present, there was no need for them to ask for directions.

This wasn’t the first time Baron Giant Monster had received a Recruitment Order from the Royal Family.

During the first Tulip War over a decade ago, he had come to the Royal Capital as the representative of the Adams Clan, leading his own contingent.

With Baron Giant Monster leading the way, Roy and the others arrived at the residence of the Minister of Military Affairs without any trouble.

They didn’t get to see the Minister of Military Affairs, who held the title of Marquis. They only met the staff member in charge of handling registrations.

Though they didn’t see the Minister of Military Affairs, it didn’t affect their registration process in the slightest.

The staff member had initially assumed they were all from the same clan.

But as it turned out, Roy and Miria were also representatives of their respective clans.

After reviewing Roy’s and Miria’s registration forms, the staff member’s expression turned to one of surprise upon realizing they hadn’t brought a single soldier with them, having come entirely alone.

Surprised as he was, the staff member quickly completed the registration, summoned a guard, and instructed him to escort them to their lodgings.
